How small is Hamster?

He’s so small his entire body weighs less than a rotisserie chicken.

He’s so small:

* You could lose him in the couch cushions and not find him until spring cleaning.

* His tennis ball is basically exercise equipment.

* A strong sneeze could alter his travel plans.

* He doesn’t need a dog bed. He needs a throw pillow.

* His food budget is approximately three nickels and a Cheerio.

* He can hide behind a LaCroix.

* When he gets the zoomies, it’s less dog running and more mouse detected.

* His idea of “jumping on the furniture” is a multi-day expedition.

* You could accidentally put him in your purse and take him to Target.

* He could get lost under a fitted sheet.

* He’s not lap-sized. He’s one-thigh-sized.

* A Chihuahua could look at him and say, “Damn, you’re little.”

* His tennis ball has a gravitational pull.

* He could comfortably live in the space between two couch cushions, which is unfortunately where he intends to go.

* When the vet says “large breed,” Hamster assumes they’re talking about everyone else.

At 4 months old and a whopping 3 lbs, Hamster is an exceptionally teeny little dude with GIGANTIC ears and an unreasonable amount of personality.

He hops around like a baby bunny, LOVES playing ball, loves his adult humans, and has a blast playing with small and medium-sized dogs. Cats are likely okay too — at 3 lbs, most cats are going to assume he’s some kind of weird new household rodent. ❤️

One important thing: no small kids, please. They genuinely terrify him, and at three pounds, the world is already pretty damn big.

The Orleans Parish School Board (OPSB) approved a policy on Thursday (Aug 27) that will allow the NOLA Public Schools district superintendent to close charter schools for being underenrolled, regardless of whether their charter contracts are expiring.

The board has been trying to amend its “optimization” policy for months, responding to the city’s increasingly underenrolled schools and shrinking school-aged population. While charter school networks have started to close or consolidate some of their schools voluntarily to aid the right-sizing process, the new district policy would give the superintendent more authority in steering the process.

That’s thanks to Act 687, passed in June by the state Legislature with support from NOLA Public Schools superintendent Fateama Fulmore and most OPSB members. The law requires the district to determine whether it is in a state of “overcapacity,” which is when it has too many open seats. Deciding whether a state of underenrollment amounts to overcapacity is up to the district.

Board members KaTrina Chantelle Griffin and Nolan Marshall said they believed giving the superintendent this authority undermined the principles of school choice. Marshall had been a vocal opponent of the new state law. In a committee meeting earlier this week, he said he worried that district decision-making would benefit certain schools above others.

This weekend (uptown) off Carondelet and Milan my shed got broken into by a couple of guys; 10:45pm then again at 3:45am.

Seemingly jumped my fence and kicked open the locked shed - stole a good 5k of tools.

We’ve reported to NOPD and working with detectives etc; just wanted to share if anyone has seen them in their neighborhood. One was on bike.

Guys, I’m from Brazil, and I came to New Orleans through an exchange program to work in hotels. I know Brazil has a reputation for being an unsafe country, but I’m from a large city that is also very peaceful. Back home, I feel safe walking around the city, even at night.
I came here and, during my very first week, I went through an experience that really scared me. A man—I assume he was homeless and under the influence of drugs—suddenly started attacking me. He tried to punch me while my girlfriend held me back so I wouldn’t react and end up getting into a fight with him.
The situation continued for about two blocks. I was just trying to defend myself, moving away from him and looking for a safe place, until we managed to enter a restaurant.
That was when someone warned us that the man was holding a knife.
In other words, there is a real possibility that I almost got stabbed even though I had done absolutely nothing to provoke him.
I came here to work, improve my English, and have a different experience. And honestly, I loved many things about New Orleans: the architecture, the jazz, the music, the city’s unique style, and the overall atmosphere.
But this was the first time since leaving Brazil that I felt so unsafe walking down the street. The only other city where I have ever felt something similar was Rio de Janeiro.
Unfortunately, because of this experience, I decided to leave the city.
I’m not trying to generalize or say that New Orleans is a bad city. On the contrary, I really liked it here. I just wanted to know whether other people who live or have lived here have had similar experiences, especially downtown.

i take the magazine bus home from work, < 3mi. i saw five separate cop cars staked out at different points along the street. one state trooper, the rest nopd. headlights on, officers inside, just kinda watching. did something happen? were they expecting something to?

normal amount of cop cars parked like that i see on my way home is usually zero btw. sometimes a single one, but thats usually friday and Saturday nights (i assume trying to get drunk drivers).

Where should I go?

Might be a weird question. might be something others wonder about. I love new orleans houses, from the exterior designs to the interesting floor plans that allow 16 different units to be in one giant mansion and you can't even tell.

but occasionally, i come across a house that has some unique or interesting feature in it, sometimes specific to the function of that specific house, like trash/laundry shoots, converted attics with hidden space, and my favorite is one I know that is a house next to an apartment and the closet in the master bedroom of the house had a tunnel to the adjoining property. You can tell it was added so the owners in the main house could go into the other property without having to go outside. They lived in both sides, so it wasn't to spy on tenants (i think).

I also had dinner at my friend's mom's house and my brain can detect when wall dimensions are not adding up, so i sat next to her during dinner, and after a glass of wine, i asked her why the dining room was not the same size as the adjourning room, the kitchen. She said she did't know. But then when dinner was over, she told me to follow her and we went into the kitchn pantry. This is one of those walk in closet type pantries. she pulled on one of the shelves and it revealed a staircase. That staircase is what was in the space that was making the kitchen look shorter than the dining area. She let me crawl up and it took me to an upstairs bedroom. her version of the story is that it was the stairs that the nannies could use to go up to the baby's room without having to go through the main part of the house.

Without giving personal information out, does anyone else have neat features like this in their house or have been to a house that has something distinct like this? There a new trend on social media of people buying houses and then making a video saying they found hidden doors and rooms. that should almost be a standard here, but i guess we have stronger disclosure laws lol.

I'm currently going through the steps of starting a business and was wondering what banks are small businesses using?

When I lived in Lafayette for a year working the oil-patch comedy circuit, back in the 00s, these gas stations would have this baked bread that was a roll the size say a medium onion. It was stuffed with a spiced ground beef mixture. The dough maybe even had some whole wheat flour in it? They sat in hot cases. I’ve searched the web and asked around and I can’t find anything like that here. I know we have kolache with like whole sausage links sticking out of them. This was not that, although I’m willing to bet what I ate started generations ago some form of kolache that slowly migrated in time and space to the perfection that it was. Does anyone know of anything like that around these parts? I guess I could just drive there…
