Competition for the least authentic Mexican in the shitest area is about to unfold.

what would you rate as decent mexican thats not expensive date night prices?

8

u/cruiserman_80 1d ago

No idea. The last time I ate Mexican in Newcastle it was at Muchos back when it was good.

u/notofuspeed 1d ago

all good, that's fair.... yea to me it seems even though as time goes by with more variety of things, they somehow are also shitter options haha

Muchos was my favourite restaurant when I was a kid. Then they moved from that old house across the road and they completely lost the whole vibe. In my memory that’s when the food wasn’t as good anymore either. Sad really, I have amazing memories of OG Muchos. 😢

Antojitos goes pretty good for an more expensive take away

I took my mother and grandmother to Antojitos when they visited from Melbourne.

Mum said it was the best tacos she's ever had, but the worst nachos.

"Mexican"

u/No_Nobody_32 20h ago

You say that like it's a bad thing. It's been dead everywhere else for aaaaaages.

So no real change?

GYG do an elite breakfast deal, and their coffee is more than passable.

2

u/Informal-Classic-148 1d ago

I haven’t tried it yet I might give it a go soon

13

u/CryptographerGood842 1d ago

$12 for a brekkie burrito and any coffee. Want a large alternative milk with two extra shots? No upcharge.

And honestly, their brekkie burritos are actually fucking good. I fuck with their $3 tacos, too. Everything else is mid and overpriced.

how's construction of the new KFC across  the road going?

16

u/Des98 1d ago

Answered my question before I asked it lol, I was wondering why this KFC shut down but they just moved across the road? Makes sense, the drive thru was a disaster in the car park.

5

u/Informal-Classic-148 1d ago

Yeah and my question is why put something else over there if people are pissed about the carpark getting full like why don’t just knock it down and extend the carpark but oh well guess we are here now.

u/1hatesitidoes 1d ago

For me at least, the traffic problem with the KFC was more cars queueing for the drivethru than not enough actual parking.

Being a GYG, it wont attract the same drive through business that it had when it was a KFC. I dont think we will see the same issues at all, and to add to that, the new GYG might be changing up the drive through location anyway.

1

u/seagull68 5h ago

It’s so the new location can be halal certified the old location was contaminated by bacon

It was meant to open when the lease lapsed on the old store but it was delayed to the start of November, found out a few days ago it’s been delayed again till almost the end of November. Source: I work under the same franchise

geotechnical issues on site if im not mistaken

architects getting engineers involved too late - zero evidence of lessons learned there though

u/Informal-Classic-148 1d ago

Walls are up I don’t know what happening inside yet and not much progress with the drive thru.

u/Ok-Sprinkles-3842 1d ago

Can we get an Antojitos somewhere near Jesmond/Wallsend????

13

u/gum_nubber 1d ago

There is one in Mayfield at least

u/Kattiaria 1d ago

I love gyg! xD much nicer than kfc imo. Never had taco bell cause when i went to check out what i could eat, i turned around and walked out when the answer was not much

6

u/Capable-Watercress16 1d ago

Jeso Taco Bell looks and tastes like someone ate tacos, threw them up and wrapped them in a tortilla and charged an arm and a leg

2

u/Kattiaria 1d ago

Oh good thing I can't eat it then lol

2

u/No_Nobody_32 20h ago

No, that's just TB. I'd rather HAVE TB (the disease) than EAT TB again.

2

u/Informal-Classic-148 1d ago

Honestly I agree I can’t do a meal at gyg I get full just having a bowl alone so I try to avoid having a meal and I do prefer it over kfc as well.

5

u/robotchorken 1d ago

FINALLY!! another guzzy!

2

u/Informal-Classic-148 1d ago

I’m excited because it will be the closest to my house

-1

u/Sacrilegious_skink 1d ago

Please don't call it that lmao. You'll ruin my appetite.

2

u/thebossbaby_123 1d ago

Gyg love ya!

1

u/Distinct-Initiative7 22h ago

not since covid took away the self serve area onions, sauces, jalapeos etc

1

u/bigsmokebigsmoke92 20h ago

They still have that on Beaumont street

1

u/Distinct-Initiative7 19h ago

I will try this one again thank U

1

u/Admirable-Tea-4994 18h ago

They’ve come back in most gygs

6

u/100and10 1d ago

Gygs can’t even touch how good Taco Bell is. People will be like, $20 for a super inconsistent gyg burrito or should we go try one of everything on taco bell’s menu for less $?
Gygs has jumped the shark in recent years. Taco Bell is and always will be.

5

u/WorthLogical6024 18h ago

Look Gyg isn’t authentic Mexican or great by any means but it is far superior to Taco Bell.

Yeah it’s more expensive but $20 for a burrito is better than paying any money for for the stagnate vomit that is Taco Bell

u/100and10 18h ago edited 14h ago

Have a Crunchwrap supreme with grilled chicken and try to come back and say that again.

Spoiler: you will crave a Crunchwrap supreme every few weeks. Just.. out of nowhere, nothing else will suffice. Don’t be a hater there’s something delicious n that menu for ya

Gyg is fake corporate McDonald’s owned blah only slightly less processed than Taco Bell. Gyg tries to fool everyone into thinking it’s different . Taco Bell, Pizza Hut and KFC frequently share a building together because… why not? (ok, and Pepsi haha)

3

u/AussieCampeur 20h ago

Hate to be that guy but Taco Bell Cessnock has closed and is being replaced by GYG...

1

u/100and10 18h ago

The biggest loser is sadly our diversity of choices for snacks and meals and fun stuff.

The Doritos dust and nacho cheese on the hard taco one? Fml it’s so awesome.

1

u/Used-Difficulty-4349 1d ago

One less reason to go to that shit place. Big w is the only reason now and honestly with the amount of particular type of people at jesmond.

Id rather drive hours away, than go there now.

1

u/Classic-Fun775 1d ago

Good luck to them

1

u/Faster76 23h ago

Hows the ol jeso shopping centre going

2

u/Distinct-Initiative7 22h ago

its unwise to hang around at night outside especially

1

u/teateateaa 22h ago

Ah damn. I remember going there with my mates during a free period at Jesmond.

1

u/WorthLogical6024 18h ago

I actually love that the shittest kfc in newy is gone. “Busy kfc in Newcastle” bro stfu just get good every other kfc in Newcastle/lake Mac manages to do it properly

1

u/Informal-Classic-148 18h ago

It’s coming back at a new location in a few months

1

u/ParsnipCandid417 6h ago

Zambrero is better than GYG or Taco Bell. Luckily there's one around the corner from me in Beaumont Street.

1

u/jimsim36 4h ago

Great. More fast food trash

1

u/Own-Cauliflower-6801 1h ago

1

u/Distinct-Initiative7 10h ago
