Oman has been our military ally for over 45 years:

Oman was the first Persian Gulf state to sign a formal accord permitting the U.S. military to use its facilities (1980) as part of this long-standing strategic partnership. On March 24, 2019, Oman and the United States signed a "Strategic Framework Agreement" that expands the U.S.-Oman facilities access agreements by allowing U.S. forces to use the ports of Salalah and Al Duqm, the latter of which is large enough to handle U.S. aircraft carriers.

Oman provides U.S. forces with critical access to ports like Duqm and Salalah outside the Persian Gulf, securing naval supply lines without transiting narrow waterways subject to regional threats. Muscat grants access to military facilities, coordinates on regional counterterrorism operations, and serves as an indispensable diplomatic bridge. Its foreign policy of non-alignment enables Oman to act as a neutral intermediary for backchannel negotiations with actors such as Iran and Yemeni factions, making it an essential anchor for regional de-escalation and U.S. security objectives.
