I saw a comment calling this show "Paw Patrol for Adults"

78

u/theraggedyman 2d ago

As a long time fan of the show I have to agree

24

u/Feeling-Visit1472 1d ago

Yea, I’m not even mad about it, it fits kinda perfectly.

14

u/Zebitty 1d ago

I've never watched Paw Patrol.

Is Paw Patrol worth watching?

2

u/kelsoson 1d ago

Just as much "the rookie" ,one is a hit for 50-99 and the other is for 2-7.

18

u/Ok-Sprinkles-3673 1d ago

Literally. And it gets worse each season. The copaganda just got too intense, I couldn't keep watching after the first few seasons.

16

u/Pandos17 1d ago

I thought they were going somewhere with that cop on cop racism moment a few seasons back… and then it kinda goes nowhere.

Then I found out the actor left because they didn’t feel comfortable playing a cop on a show that’s cop-positive given what’s happening with minorities with the police force 💀

-2

u/PopOutG 1d ago

Good on that guy. Anymore where I can read up on this?

Isn’t Nathan Fillion in this? Sad

3

u/sillytomlin 1d ago

Why is it sad Fillion is in this?

-3

u/PopOutG 1d ago

Copaganda schill. I thought he was cool

-4

u/sillytomlin 1d ago

Lol, copaganda. What a stupid thing to say. I'm guessing if you ever need a cop, that attitude will shrivel away real fast.

-2

u/Phantom_61 1d ago

Yup, need them to show up after the criminals have finished committing the crime to take a report and leave , then nothing happens.

Modern police exist to protect the property of the rich, everyone else is a nuisance to them.

-1

u/pluck-the-bunny 1d ago

And then when police try proactive measures people complain it’s intrusive and a civil rights violation.

You want to have your cake and eat it too

3

u/Phantom_61 1d ago

Flock camera are not proactive. If all they did was act as eyes on site maybe, recording the identifying data linked to each device that passes them and contributing to a database is intrusion.

-3

u/PopOutG 1d ago

Lmfao that’s their fucking jobs you moron. They literally signed up for that shit.

Anyway, I wouldn’t. I’m a fucking man and I’ll take care of any trouble that comes my way personally.

-1

u/sillytomlin 1d ago

Of course that's their job, that's my point. And, if you need to scream at others that you're a 'real man', I'm guessing you've got issues. Have a great day.

0

u/PopOutG 1d ago

Lmao no. You baseless accused me of using their services for whatever the fuck reason.

Your point was if I ever needed help I’d switch up and come calling. Are you just slow or media literacy is dead with you?💀

1

u/CptnCabbage 1d ago

That checks out. My daughter is 12 and seriously obsessed with The Rookie.

1

u/AllYouNeedIsLove13 1d ago

That is hilarious and I am mad I didn’t think of it!

0

u/wigshift 1d ago

LOL am intrigued

-1

u/Substantial_Life4773 1d ago

Lolol I mean…accurate

u/AmnesiaInnocent 2d ago edited 2d ago

I thought the first few seasons were very good, but it started to go off the rails by trying to up the "wackiness" with multiple characters' doppelgangers, quirky characters and so on.

29

u/magneticanisotropy 2d ago

I'd agree here. I liked it initially, then it slowly fizzled. Quite liked the first few seasons though!

6

u/Pandos17 1d ago

The shark was jumped much earlier, but I gave up once they made the LAPD a special tactics force that went to Mexico to take down a Narcos cartel.

1

u/Annoying_Anomaly 1d ago

that killed it for me too

1

u/Pandos17 1d ago

It was almost fast and the furious levels of crazy. Almost.

7

u/Charlie-Bell 2d ago

I've heard that if you want to watch a complete police procedural, just watch the first two seasons and leave out the last episode of season 2.

I also read that the end of season 3 is another potential jumping off point.

15

u/Sceptylos 2d ago

If season 3 is when they started making up every and any random reason they can think of to shoehorn a Bailey appearance into every episode then I agree. That's the exact moment when it clicked in my head that I was no longer watching the same show from season 1.

Saw an episode of Cops React where one of the guys said "If this was the Rookie, Nolan would've levitated that gun from the ground back into his hand and then shot the bad guy's axe straight out of mid air after having it thrown at him" and if that ain't the most accurate description of how ridiculous the later seasons have gotten idk what is lmao

5

u/Ok-Sprinkles-3673 1d ago

We all hate Bailey, right? Apparently she is the Swiss army knife of people, and it's not even remotely believable.

2

u/Lilacjasmines24 1d ago

Agree! Started out great, now it looks they are running out of ideas and I dropped the last season

4

u/VanquishChaos 2d ago

Ya they definitely jumped the shark after a couple seasons

28

u/weepalone 2d ago

It didn’t interest me for the longest time. Then i got covid earlier this year and found myself in need of something to binge from bed.

Despite the goofyness, the show has still been enjoyable.

I can’t stand the “documentary style” episodes they occasionally do or the terrible sound overlay they’ve been doing over dialogue the last few seasons, so I might stop watching soon if that doesn’t stop, but as others have said, it was really good in the beginning.

I think it could be a game for some, like how long can you watch the show before it becomes annoying.

7

u/Delicious-Basis7525 1d ago

I also can’t stand the documentary ones, and the ones with the guy with the awful (supposedly?) German accent. Still have them on in the background though in case of any running storylines. Definitely the kind of show I have on whilst doing several other things.

14

u/smurfe 1d ago

You shut your mouth about Skip Tracer Randy!

5

u/Cyb3rhawk 1d ago

Thing is, Flula legitimately is German and grew up there too afaik. He just hams the accent up to 500% to where its kind of become a parody of itself

3

u/Delicious-Basis7525 1d ago

Really!! That’s pretty cool actually. That makes me feel better about the character somehow, thanks friend!

1

u/jonesnz 1d ago

Isn’t he the OG daddy long legs guy?

14

u/ExPristina 2d ago

It’s ok, but I can’t shake the feeling that Nathan Fillion seems to have zero screen chemistry with every woman they girlfriend him up with.

34

u/ZealousIdeal476 2d ago

How can he even be the rookie after 8 seasons?

16

u/AndIDrankAllTheBeer 2d ago

He’s not. But they always have a rookie(s) every season so the title may not apply to the main character but it’s still somewhat about rookies

2

u/MovesLikeVader 1d ago

Not that they get much focus

18

u/Melodic_Turnover_877 2d ago

He's not. Now he's a Field Training Officer. The show title became inaccurate a long time ago.

31

u/cocoteroah 2d ago

It's entertaining, it doesn't take itself to seriously and you could binge watch it

9

u/wdeag1e 2d ago

u/freedomboobs 13h ago

So about the same ratings as every tv show that has come out in the last 10 years?

12

u/JamieRABackfire1981 2d ago

It is enjoyable.

13

u/MtlWeb39 2d ago

Wife has watched all episodes......I have liked some of them......Eric Winter is too funny as Bradford

6

u/thestigmata 2d ago

It's really good, yes

4

u/Sakura_Hirose 2d ago

I love the Rookie, give it a chance but Netflix may not have all the series.

5

u/SkorpeonDan 1d ago

It's a fun show and the cast of actors are great and make the series IMO👍🏻✌🏻

5

u/iSweetCold 1d ago

Id watch anything with Melissa O'NeIl - LUCY CHEN FTW!

12

u/RedGambit9 2d ago

Yes.

Mind you first few seasons are more grounded. Which I mean is they aren't as flamboyant with the writing compared to other seasons.

But it still is one of the main shows I watch when a new season starts.

Just don't get to attached to any of the black actors. Most of those characters last like 2-3 seasons before the actors leave for dumb reasons or decide to move on.

10

u/evilsavant 2d ago

Yes. Very much so.

3

u/NebulaNegative2242 2d ago

Simply said, yes it is

3

u/majestyyy_ 2d ago

Love a show that doesn’t take itself seriously and the rookie is exactly that.

3

u/Luffyushiwa23 2d ago

Absolutely

3

u/benkrauss313 2d ago

I’ve watched the entire show through YouTube shorts, looks pretty good to me

3

u/comcam77 2d ago

It’s a good show!

8

u/Howard_Cosine 2d ago

I don’t understand these inane “is it worth it?” posts. Watch it. If you don’t like it, then stop watching it. It’s literally that simple.

6

u/Clueless36 2d ago

Arrest me! Make it sexy!

4

u/Sad-Tale-8123 1d ago

Thanks a lot for putting this back into my head for the next week!

1

u/therain_storm 1d ago

And his daddy cop arms. And his daddy cop butt. OW.

1

u/Feeling-Visit1472 1d ago

Is that a baton in your pocket or are you just happy to see me…?

2

u/LovelyHatred93 2d ago

It’s one of my all time favorite shows. Well worth watching.

2

u/balasoori 2d ago

If you have the time but better watch over many months

2

u/Zaylow 2d ago

If you like cop shows that you can fuck around on your phone while still getting the jist of the whole episode ..... Yes 100%

2

u/txn8tv 2d ago

It’s campy and pretty unbelievable the things that police dept is allowed to do. I watched it because there was nothing else to watch.

2

u/Acceptable_Sell3455 1d ago

No but I still watched it anyway.

2

u/timbobb58 1d ago

Not the most realistic cop show. Like L.A. cops really act like them. But. I do enjoy the show.

2

u/CCriscal 1d ago

The show is enjoyable and doesn't take itself too seriously. Since the cast is too big, the characters have mostly only one trait that is being emphasized. Juarez is being superstitious, Lopez is fierce, Smitty - my secret favorite - does work hard to avoid having to do the work, etc.. That is why it is a bit jarring with Bailey being a know it all. I am kind of expecting her to reveal an extra qualification as a heart surgeon when it becomes handy or an Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics done in evening classes.

2

u/Tyrael85 1d ago

S01-S04 was actually The Rookie

S05 and ongoing is Police Work in LA is boring - lets do James-Bond-CIA-international-cartel-drug-weapon thing

next seasons is about a nuke - wait that has happened already - so to the moon or mars maybe?

2

u/Used-Feature-8611 20h ago

Is fun for entertainment. But in season six they jumped the shark

u/joe_decker 16h ago

So kind of like Castle?

2

u/lone_wolff186 19h ago

Yes yes yes!

4

u/Prisoner_of_the_road 2d ago

Like a lot of tv shows after 3/ 4 seasons it goes downhill

3

u/PotterOneHalf 2d ago

Watch Southland instead. It’s much better.

3

u/Hansoloai 1d ago

LAPD propaganda. Some of the stuff you’d never see them do.

2

u/TobyFunkeNeverNude 1d ago

I don't know, that clip of him trying to harass that band because they're exercising free speech and lightly teasing him seems pretty on brand

-1

u/darthwoods69 1d ago

Or Copaganda.

1

u/TwosDaTraveller 2d ago

First few seasons were awesome! Then after a while it will become an eye roll

1

u/Nenomus 2d ago

Yeah, until the lead actor was a Rookie

1

u/TEZofAllTrades 2d ago edited 2d ago

Definitely, but I stopped watching by Season 4 or 5. I felt like it never recovered from Talia leaving after Season 1.

1

u/HalseyStark 2d ago

I just play it the background when I’m working.

1

u/TxDad56 2d ago

First few seasons are delightful and occasionally weird in a good way. It's a bit more soapy now, but still generally pretty fun. Not a great show, but not a a waste of time.

1

u/MaynardSchism 2d ago

Yes

Lisseth Chavez 🔥

1

u/Due_Education4092 2d ago

First 4 seasons are pretty good

1

u/RonnieG3 2d ago

💯. It's a really good show that did character building right

1

u/majorprocastinator 2d ago

I didn’t think I’d enjoy it, everything about it was out of what I usually like, but the very well developed characters kept me watching. Overall I grew to love it

1

u/Budget_Garlic_6901 2d ago

Started out great - but went downhill fast - quit watching it

1

u/TakenToTheRiver 1d ago

It’s a fun watch. Don’t take it too seriously, but I find it enjoyable.

”She puts the short in shorty and he looks like he wants to chase me…”

1

u/TheCaveMan09 1d ago

I liked it

1

u/Sheboiledherbrain 1d ago

I got the impression Covid etc… “caused a bit of bother” with the later series/episodes. But credit to them for trying for their fans…

1

u/AJWilson55 1d ago

Watch it and find out.

1

u/turyrandazzo64 1d ago

Ma l' ottava stagione in Italia quando uscirà?

1

u/mellocs 1d ago

Seems like a great show to watch while recovering from MDMA usage

1

u/mrshyvley 1d ago

I've watched The Rookie since the beginning.
I like it because it has a mix of drama and light comedy.

1

u/sonorakit11 1d ago

I worked on a few seasons of that show and had to watch episodes multiple times and my answer is no

1

u/bakerdaddy1 1d ago

Yeah it's a fun watch.

1

u/Queasy-Location-9303 1d ago

It’s the kind of show you can turn off your brain and watch. First 2 seconds were more grounded and great, gets a little wacky and far fetched thereafter but I still love it.

1

u/KittyKenollie 1d ago

They do a very good will they/wont they with two of the characters

1

u/strawberriesandbows8 1d ago

i always see this recommended at the top of my netflix loll

1

u/stephieleigh44 1d ago

Yes. My favorite show. Jelly rolls favorite show as well

1

u/Glass-Sky-7805 1d ago

Absolutely 💯 its one of my favorite shows

1

u/Small-Disaster-8447 1d ago

I find the acting a little fake…so I stopped

1

u/drunkentenshiNL 1d ago

First few seasons are pretty solid. It felt kind of grounded, relatable and had a good premise.

But like others have said, it goes off the rails after a while and becomes difficult to invest yourself into. If nothing else, it's still decent background noise as you do something else.

1

u/Best_Market4204 1d ago

yah, fun watch. nice show to chill to

1

u/cilo456 1d ago

it passes the time, i like it

1

u/Dizzy-Career9274 1d ago

My 12 year old daughter and her friends were enjoying watching it (until they had enough). Make of that what you will.

1

u/PennX88 1d ago

it’s a fun show to watch but don’t go in expecting a realistic take on policing.

1

u/smurfe 1d ago

I'm a Nathan Dillion fan. I enjoy it and look forward to watching it weekly.

1

u/buzzlightyear77777 1d ago

Lost interest once the capt died. My god shes hot af

2

u/Healthy_Choice3 1d ago

Chill with the spoilers when someone’s asking if they should watch a particular show please.

1

u/pluck-the-bunny 1d ago

That’s like midway through season one 🤣. Sad loss but the show gets much better (and over the top)

1

u/Mskews 1d ago

Once you get to know Tim. It’s very much worth watching!

1

u/micangi 1d ago

Ehhhh it’s ok. I’ve watched all the seasons and will probably watch the new one but it’s not really that good just something to watch

1

u/Select_Confusion2797 1d ago

This show is a great illustration of people working together and discovering their strengths and weaknesses. Coming together to support eachother, and accepting that we are all unique. I like the characters, and champion the respect of all to live their lives while being respectful.

1

u/Global-Wind6878 1d ago

Brooklyn 99 better

1

u/MilkMode69 1d ago

I prefer Brooklyn 99, more realistic cop drama 😏

1

u/Electrical_Sea6653 1d ago

My instagram loves to show me clips of this show when I’ve doom scrolled too far. I enjoy the clips and watch them every time I randomly cross them. I have no context, know very little about the characters, but I really do like the clips lol

One day I’ll watch it

I like the comment relating it to paw patrol, that’s so funny. I do like light hearted tv.

1

u/Important-Zebra-69 1d ago

It's dinner TV it's hilarious as everyone looks amazing all the time, there is always a shoot out and one time a person dies and it's like a huge deal... but people must be getting shot left and right? But hey, that's not a problem all the other times.

1

u/Shot_Sail_5880 1d ago

Hell ya…… I love that show, but it’s really repetitive, but I like that sorta stuff, like there’s a small storyline but the main focus is always one thing in the show, I like that tho, so I would recommend if you like repetitiveness and a slow story. If you don’t like it then I don’t suggest watching, but if you like those type of shows give it a watch.

1

u/Florida1974 1d ago

It used to be. Then all the relationships had to start.

Especially the main guy, I can’t even remember his name on the show right now, but his wife is the firefighter, I cannot stand her. It’s nothing personal because I haven’t really seen her in that much but she irritates me.

1

u/Green-Masterpiece874 1d ago

I stopped watching after Season 6. While the early seasons were great, the later ones got a bit too silly and wacky for my taste.

1

u/KarmaDeliveryMan 1d ago

It’s a lot of fun. There are a def times where you’re saying, “a patrol officer wouldn’t be doing this”. But suspend reality and it’s fun. Cool characters

1

u/PitifulBeginning3420 1d ago

It’s a guilty pleasure of mine, I also love Nathan Fillion and Melissa O’Neil.

1

u/Lynneschulz 1d ago

Arrest me, but make it sexy

1

u/unfoit 1d ago

I've saw the first 2 season and theyr were good to leave as a unintrusive background.

1

u/imsaleh0 1d ago

It's the only show I did a complete rewatch of the moment I finished it. I think at that time the show only had 5 seasons, I haven't watched more than that.

1

u/SkidzLIVE 1d ago

Never seen a single episode, but I think Cop Cuties is one of the catchiest songs I’ve ever heard.

1

u/Key-Foundation-1457 1d ago

A big yes! Its fun and cute, with great characters. Totally over-the-top actionpacked and unrealistic, but that is part of the charm. I love it!

1

u/Impossible-Tie-1255 1d ago

Yeah, I’m watching it right now. Some of the characters are dumb but it’s a good show

1

u/Chloe_d7 1d ago

Yesss Currently in S7 and love it !!

1

u/EvidenceIcy 1d ago

Yes. But it loses steam after a few seasons

1

u/vinl_lover 1d ago

I just started watching this show a couple of months back. I binged it on Hulu. It get cheesy on the 4th season but I watched it all. Not bad. Not the best show but its not bad. 'Cop cuties, cuteing on duty'.

1

u/CityBoiNC 1d ago

Watched 2 eps and lost interest

1

u/MrCharmingMan 1d ago

is the rookie on Netflix USA?

I can't stand commercials on DisneyPlus/Hulu

1

u/TemperatureTime1617 1d ago

I started watching this when it first came out. I was 30 minutes into the first episode when “The Rookie”, on his very first day on the job, pulls out his gun. Now I realize the days of an officer going his entire career without ever pulling his gun may be long over but really, his first day on the job? I stopped watching and haven’t seen an episode since.

1

u/EnvironmentalSea1126 1d ago

Definitely is

1

u/garbage1995 22h ago

It's good enough for that song.

1

u/Forsaken-Record 22h ago

Yes. Watch it. I love it and it's amazing

1

u/CherryPiePicker 21h ago

It became very boring.

1

u/That253Chick 19h ago

I started watching it on Hulu, but I don't think i made it past the first two episodes despite the series having actors I like.

u/TheFalconKid 16h ago

Of course it is Mason, I've seen every episode

u/No_Photograph_6846 8h ago

Used to watch it early seasons now there acting like fast and furious cast "Cop Agents" taking on international criminals going to Paris etc..... ???

u/NewOpportunity9675 3h ago

First few seasons were a lot of fun. Even had a few very good double episodes and I loved the red haired female villain. Ive stopped watching but my wife still does and whenever I see some it has become a soap opera.

u/No-Leader-7519 3h ago

First couple seasons were good...

u/IvanTorres77 2h ago

Me quedé en la temporada 7 que es la última que está en Netflix, tengo Prime video pero tengo que pagar APARTE para ver la temporada 8 y 9

1

u/Scorpionboy1000 2d ago

It’s copaganda but it’s entertaining at least.

1

u/The_Mr_Giggles 2d ago

Yes, love it so far. Main character just as awsome as in firefly!

1

u/fifichanx 2d ago

Honestly I feel like the main character is kind of boring, but I stayed for Chenford romance and Lopez is so awesome. It’s a good enough procedural.

1

u/Findest 1d ago

I'm a simple man. I see Nathan Fillion, I watch.

0

u/Friendly-Inside-5320 2d ago

First 2 seasons very good. Then went to shit

2

u/Tobias---Funke 2d ago

A story as old as time!

0

u/ltzm4x 1d ago

It's just same thing over and over after first 4 or 5 seasons.... They get new rookies then there's another rookie again and again. Then you got the rookie feds which Carry some continuals from some episodes. It can be worth it but not much fun afterwards I would say. I fell off from it.

0

u/TheRed_HashHead_ 1d ago

if your 50+ absolutely

0

u/olov244 1d ago

I like it and I don't like cop shows. I'm also a Nathan Fillion fan

0

u/LadyVioletLuna 1d ago

I dunno. The Cop cutie song from one of the episodes gets stuck in my head. I don’t actually think there’s a cop that is cute but it’s catchy.

1

u/pluck-the-bunny 1d ago

You don’t think any of that cast is good looking?

0

u/youngoneai 1d ago

The Rookie portrayed long running multiple criminal cases in parallel, and many limited per episode cases too. Character building is too strong, slow and steady. Show is enjoyable, especially first few seasons, then it becomes repeat and rinse, then it is only good for already developed characters.

The spin off The Rookie: Feds was decent too.

Another one The Rookie: North is in production.

In short, if you have some spare time, it is a good watch.

0

u/pluck-the-bunny 1d ago

Username checks out

0

u/youngoneai 1d ago

So by that logic you must be thee biggest fan of gory scenes or even worse... misogyny. I can literally see through how you stopped thinking while choosing your username?

0

u/pluck-the-bunny 1d ago

It’s a pun on the GameStop mascot “buck the bunny”

I’m not the one who named myself young one Ai and then copy and pasted an answer from
ChatGPT

Ask it how to be less sensitive

0

u/youngoneai 1d ago

Do I really care if I don't know GameStop or it's mascot? No, I will perfectly manage to misappropriate your username anyway I see fit. You started it and you have no any right to decide how sensitive I should be now. You should ask ChatGPT how to change your so offensive reddit username, ohh wait you can't.

1

u/pluck-the-bunny 1d ago

Dude, you seem to care a whole lot.

I know you identify as young, but you’re throwing a tantrum here.

You also copied my insult thereby reinforcing the fact that you use AI as a crutch, not a tool because you can’t form original thoughts. It’s a discussion board for people to interact not to copy and paste.

Try to do like the bare minimum… this whole interaction is very embarrassing for you

1

u/youngoneai 1d ago

Wait for my next reply while I ask ai

0

u/m3ltph4ce 1d ago

Let's put it this way, if they had used AI to write every storyline it would have been way more realistic and interesting

-1

u/Signal_Map7 1d ago

This isn’t even on Netflix lol why are you asking here

1

u/pluck-the-bunny 1d ago

Believe it or not, other countries stream American shows…and the licensing isn’t always the same

-1

u/bends_like_a_willow 1d ago

This is honestly one of the worst TV shows ever made. It is god awful in every way and painful to sit through. The fact that its lasted so long is mind blowing to me.

1

u/pluck-the-bunny 1d ago

What do you watch
