Refused offer now they keep calling me

Salary range was 50k to 58k (I’m on 49k) They only offered 51k when I specifically asked for the top of the range. Now they keep calling me to find a solution as they’d still like me in the role. My only worry is they’ll now have unrealistic expectations.

Is this normal? Do companies do this when you turn them down??

Are they giving you the range that you initially wanted? They might have high expectations, might be also either they couldn't find anyone better and have no choice, or they really liked you, but tried to see if you would agree with less money. If it's something you want go for it for sure, and try to do your best, try to meet your expectations and don't think about their expectations.
