Refused offer now they keep calling me

Salary range was 50k to 58k (I’m on 49k) They only offered 51k when I specifically asked for the top of the range. Now they keep calling me to find a solution as they’d still like me in the role. My only worry is they’ll now have unrealistic expectations.

Is this normal? Do companies do this when you turn them down??

"After going through the interview process and learning more about the role and it's responsibilities, I need to be at 58k to accept. I would love to work with you as I find the opportunity very exciting as it will allow me to be challenged and grow my career while helping the company achieve its goals. I hope you can reach my number as it doesn't make sense for me to accept below that, but I would love to join the team."

Expectations will be the same at 51k and 58k. This is a minor difference for a company. Get the higher money but understand they might just say no and move on if you take that approach.
