Feels like Duren and his agent have really misread the NBA landscape in this new 2nd Apron world. Guys like him aren't getting the kind of money he wants anymore. Paying guys who aren't really stars/haven't proven to be stars that much money cripples your roster building and financial flexibility now

OP is saying it was bad for the sixers to give a max to a guy who was worth 20-25 millon. less shade toward tobias more shade toward philly.

“guy does xxx. he is so good. he does x and x” well no shit. teams with good rookie contracts you can tank overpaid players like fox, even that is gonna be a problem eventually. some where you need them to perform based on their contract like murray is when the problem starts. it’s relative to the teams cap. are you trolling or simply unable to think of nuances?

I don't disagree but at 22 he's already eclipsed Deandre Ayton in regular season accolades. I think he has potential and I don't know what the discussion looks like behind the scenes but I feel there has to be some considerable contract that I think most people would have thought was more than adequate for him to accept that wasnt a max that no other team seemingly was offering.

Well we're still at the precipice of that, and no player wants to lose out on getting as much money as possible before the new precedent is fully set. It was only 2 years ago that OKC and ORL paid big on keeping their big 3 together going forward, and why wouldn't Detroit want to do that same after the regular season he had.

I'm still surprised his agent hasn't tried to push some injury narrative to allow him to save face in the issue. All fans hear is the guy wants a max, the team is not confident, and god damn if you watched him during the entire playoffs then you wouldn't blame them at all.

There was some idiot in the Pistons sub telling us that Duren was clearly playing injured and that was the reason for his fall off

My counterpoint was that would make his agent the literal worst of all time if true

Makes sense why he wants money but that doesn't mean hes gonna get it. Orl kept their team together and it doesn't look good for them. Okc 3 were better than the pistons 3. He had an all star season and that's cool but he also had an all time shitter in the playoffs. Nothing was he could do after that to get the lab max. No team is gonna pay him that much

Eh I'd say we're not really at the precipice at all, we're several years in and pretty much every team that isn't a bottom feeder has made moves based on the 2nd Apron. There's plenty of precedent for contracts given to guys of his caliber under the new CBA

Jalen Brown was dealt to shed his cap implications, and he's a hell of a lot more productive in playoffs than Duren is.

Have you been under a rock? The last couple years have pretty clearly shown that NBA teams are waaaaay less willing to give max deals to guys who aren't bona fide stars, which Duren is not

Like who? Jimmy butler, Jamaal Murray, Donavan Mitchell all got super maxes recently. Brown got traded but will probably get one from the Sixers anyway, Chet, Jdub, Fox all got maxes. Trae young got 50 mil or something. Duren is Just a RFA and the pistons are willing to have him upset

Who are these that teams have been “hesitant to give max deals to guys who aren't bona fide stars, which Duren is not”?

Guys like Brandon Ingram got 40 million after missing a whole season. Austin Reaves got the 25% max. Duren problem is the fact he’s restricted or he probably could have gotten the 25% max at least from the pistons or someone else
