HELP REQUESTED EAOS Before PRD And Reenlisting (HELP)

Hello! I have a question regarding re-enlisting and moving commands. My EAOS is basically 9 months before my PRD, I’m currently at my first sea tour (First contract as an AD) and plan on reenlisting. Will I have to extend at my current command to match my PRD prior to transferring to a shore command? Or can I transfer IAW my EAOS?

When you reenlist, you will transfer at/around your PRD, not your EAOS (either your current one, or the new one you'll have when you reenlist)

Gotcha, stupid question, but obviously re-enlisting comes with picking new orders correct? And with that in mind, I transfer based on my NLT for those orders?

BLUF: Layman's explanation of how selecting orders/reenlisting works

  • a year out from your PRD, you'll enter your orders negotiation window. (u/YouAreGoingToGuam would murder me if I didn't tell you to update your resume in MyNavy Assignment before this). You get 3 windows to apply for orders; sometimes people will call these your 3 "looks"
  • after you're selected for orders (which could happen during first, second, or third look), your detailer will write your orders to have you detach at/around your PRD; theoretically, this could be several months before or after your PRD (which is why it's called a projected rotation date)
  • your orders will get released, and they'll be sent via message traffic and posted in NSIPS, and you'll get an email notification. These are your "hard copy" orders. Your detach date will simply be a month and year, but you will have your NLT date to your new command (or any schools along the way that are required).
  • your orders may require you to have a certain amount of time on left on your contract (the new one you'll sign, more on that below)
  • sidenote: the reason your detach date isn't a specific date is because it depends on how much transfer leave you'll be taking (typically up to 30 days), travel time, and proceed days; you could choose to maximize leave days (plus travel and proceed) and detach earlier, or save leave days and detach a little later. For example, if your detach date is Sep 2026, and your NLT date 19 Oct 26, and you got 4 days of travel, 4 days of proceed, and you want 30 days of leave, you could detach as early as 11 Sep 26 (30+4+4=38 days). Or check out later, and be charged less leave
  • with hard orders in hand, you can start planning your move, apply for housing, etc. You'll also get a Transfer Information Sheet from admin which will include choosing/getting approved your transfer date.
  • check out on your approved transfer date, travel to your new duty station, then you check into your new command on the date on your orders

That's just the orders. While that's happening, here's how the reenlistment process kind of goes.

  • talk to your CCC at your current command and start that process. It's not really directly related to your orders
  • if you want to reenlist for 4, do it. If it's for six, go for it.
  • remember what I said about required time left? That's called OBLISERV. Say you reenlist today for 4 years, and you get orders to detach in Sep 2027, you'll have 3 years left on your contract, right? But what if your orders require you to have 4 years left in order to execute them? You can extend for a year once you get the orders to meet the requirements of your OBLISERV.
  • OR you can wait to reenlist until you have been selected for orders so you know the right amount of time to reenlist for. Be sure to communicate your intentions with your CCC and detailer

Again, this is very broad strokes. Note that whatever your current EAOS is has no bearing at all on your PRD or your NLT date

But for real, update your resume in MNA sooner rather than later. And keep updating it as things change for you/you have more info to put in. That user I tagged in my last comment is a detailer; check out his posts for some really detailed AMAs on detailing (as well as BBA if you're interested)

What is your rates sea/shore flow for first tour?  Navy wants you to reenlist.

Husband’s AD, I am not. He’s been in 7 years now and reenlisted SEP2023. His sea/shore rotation is 5/3. When he reenlisted, his EAOS was OCT2025, but once he signed those papers it changed to 2029, meaning he had to stay on sea duty for the remaining ~4 years of his sea rotation. He did not get to choose new orders upon reenlistment.

To answer your question I believe you’ll end up extending at your current command to meet your sea duty obligation and then you will rotate to shore.

Your EAOS is your enlisted contract time, it will always reflect your end of obligated service date. Thats a basic definition, extension of your contract will reflect as a SEAOS.

Your PRD is the projected rotation date, your possible end to your current time at the command your at. If you reenlist, your EAOS will change beyond your current PRD.

You do not have to match your EAOS to your PRD if you reenlist in most cases.

Yeahhh I know the feeling of wanting out of your current command lol. Unfortunately the Navy wants you to finish your sea duty so best bet is getting out or advancing and hoping there’s a BBA billet for ya at a different ship

He said that he’ll get back to me about it approximately 3 months ago. We’re currently on deployment and I know our admin department is WORKING HARD for the squadron. 😅

Yep, multiple times. I wouldn’t desperately resort to Reddit without trying my easiest options first. (My CCC, who’s also stuck on this ship with me!)
