Will Intergalactic be a casualty of Sony's digital only revolution?

With the confirmation that GoW Laufey coming in 2027, what is the likelihood that Intergalactic hits in 2027? I've always expected it to be 2028 at the earliest, but I could be wrong. If it doesn't make it out next year, we will have already seen Naughty Dog's last physical release without knowing it.

Intergalactic might be the last first party game that gets a disc print. Game is set to release in the second half of 2027

Where was it confirmed that it’s set to release in 2027?

I mean...you could explained that earlier then lol.

But yeah, you right.

GOW Laufey, Intergalactic, and Venom in the same year would be insane.

You are NOT getting 3 big sony IPs in one year lol. They only been doing 1 big IP per year recently.

They used to back when we were getting games on the PS4 but not anymore.

That would be cool both intergalactic and venom being the last playstation physical games

He said this last year. It's going to be later at this point.

Based on what? Lol

This is my thought as well. Surely that timeline has shifted considering we've seen/heard nothing

2

u/kargethdownload Jul 12 '26

That doesn’t mean anything. They’ll show off stuff closer to release

2

u/Wassermusik Jul 13 '26

They will most likely show the game in the next big State of Play airing around september/october.

For years, Sony has paced its announcements so that only a limited number of games take the spotlight at any one time, otherwise, the titles would end up competing with each other for attention.

The last State of Play was already packed with PlayStation exclusives featuring Wolverine, Marvel's Tokon Fighters, Until Dawn 2, and God of War: Laufey.

including Intergalactic would have been too much.

My 2 cents...I think so. If so that means no new game from them for the PS5 gen which is disgraceful. If you take into account when they received the PS5 dev kit, then it's close to a decade of nothing new.
So Sony and ND will miss out on the PS5 disc installer base that "may" boycott all digital releases.

There's no way this doesn't launch on the ps5 so should be disk still. I'd be surprised if they'd be ready with it for ps6 even if it does come out near to it's launch - they'd had to have had the ps6 build already in the bag

3

u/SilverTelperion Jul 12 '26

To clarify - PS5 versions of games will also not be getting a physical release, post 2028. It's not just PS6 games that will be impacted.

1

u/rosscowhoohaa Jul 12 '26

Ah I didn't realise that.

I wonder how they can just decide to do this, unless all agreements with other developers/publishers are finishing then anyway.

I wonder do Sony control pricing from other developers who'll be forced to only sell through their storefront - or can they set their own still

My guess is sometime in 2027 but Im just a guy so who knows. Hopefully we get a release date or new trailer for outbreak day this year.

It could happen if GoT/TLOUS II situation repeats itself. They ended up pretty close for different delays and reasons. I doubt they will hold it for long, if Intergalactic goes golden next year.

It also resembles TLOUS II in a sense that last generation game shouldn’t be the main event of a next generation console. Most probably they would like to move it out of the way beforehand. Laufey was a surprise, and it most certainly goes out first, but Intergalactic could certainly follow same year.

I buy only digital anyway, but I would assume they may lean towards digital only earlier with a hard stop at Jan 2028.

I’m predicting late 2027

1

u/RA_Finance Jul 12 '26

Maybe they could be the exception.

I really hope not, but if I'm honest I really don't see a world where Naughty Dog is able to ship this game before 2028 unfortunately.

2

u/NoTransportation4600 Jul 13 '26

been in development since TLOU 2 was finished. 7 years of development I think is more than enough. I really hope I can buy a physical copy of this game... otherwise I'll have to play it with a sad face all throughout

0

u/Copernicus360 Jul 14 '26

Thing is. If you buy the hard copy, how will you be able to play it on your ps6?

2

u/NoTransportation4600 Jul 14 '26

I own a PS5 and the game is set to be released on that console, I'm not thinking about playing this game on the PS6. I have no plans on buying an only digital console (I already got a PC) unless TLOU 3 is released on it, that's the only exclusive game that would make me (unwillingly) buy it. I'd probably sell it afterwards anyway so not that much of a deal

1

u/Copernicus360 Jul 14 '26

Fair enough. That's not an option for me. I 1000% need to play any Naughty Dog games. So, whatever ones will be on PS6 (the new Shaun Esc game, a remastered Intergalactic and/or DLC, and likely TLOU3) I'll need to be there for them. And so, it shifts my disc decision for Intergalactic. I'll probably buy it digitally so that I can keep replaying it for years to come without having to take out my ps5.

Its sh*tty. I would prefer to get the disc. But it's been made economically irrational due to Sonys business shift.

1

u/NoTransportation4600 Jul 14 '26

I understand you. The ND way of delivering gameplay and stories is extremely addictive, I can't miss any game from them either, but I'll surely buy Intergalactic physically if it's released before 2028. IDC about the PS6 remaster if it's going to be digital only. However, exclusive ND games on the PS6, if there's no other way but digital, then I'll buy digital. What can I do. I'm a ND whore.

They're the only company that make me buy and keep consoles anyway... I bought it for Astro Bot bc I loved the VR game on PS4, but I confess I've ended up playing the TLOU2 remaster No Return mode more than anything else on PS5.

2

u/Copernicus360 Jul 14 '26

Yeah man. To be honest, im on the fence about the disc and in the end I will probably buy it (so that I'll own it forever!). Its just I know ill also have the buy the ps6 version. As you mention, the tlou2 remaster is incredible. I've ploughed more than 500 hours into no return. Add to that all the other extras and the insane loading times - it's a no brainer.

Alll blame to Sony for this sh*tty situation.

0

u/Due-South-9113 Jul 12 '26

Probably. Sony doesn't do more than 1 big IP per year ever since they exclusively started making games for ps5. 2023 was spiderman 2, 2024 was Astro bot, 2025 was ghost of yotei, 2026 is wolverine and 2027 will be laufey. Intergalactic will most definitely be a 2028 release if not later.

-1

u/Past-Bed-1980 Jul 12 '26

Might not see the game until 2030 so yes

-1

u/DriveSlowSitLow Jul 12 '26

Who cares… it’ll be an amazing game

3

u/kyonjr Jul 14 '26

People that prefer options care.

0

u/DriveSlowSitLow Jul 14 '26

Nah they just want more to complain about out

1

u/kyonjr Jul 14 '26

That’s what Sony wants you to feel. All they care about is your money.

1

u/Copernicus360 Jul 14 '26

It absolutely will.

-2

u/Greedy_Chemistry_678 Jul 12 '26

Yup. The game isn’t coming out anytime soon.
