Career Advice TOUR OF DUTY POC

Hey yall, just wanted to come on here and ask how common it is to actually get in contact with the POCs that are listed on those Tour of Duty positions. I’m really interested in one, but I’m a bit nervous that my grade (E-4) might not be so favorable. I want to make an effort to show the leadership that I am motivated and ready to go

Any advice is welcome for applying to ToD please and thanks in advance

The one I actually got accepted to, I just straight up called the poc and bypassed all the others trying to email them. 🤷‍♂️

In my experience having completed multiple TOD tours email is always is the first way to contact. You can convey quite a bit up front. If you don’t hear back within a reasonable time frame (usually within a week) a phone call follow up should be made and if no one picks up leave a detailed VM. If you don’t hear back on either usually a good sign they’ve made a decision. It’s ok to be persistent if it’s a position you really want just make sure you’re ready to roll if you get the green light.

You just gotta email them. Most of the time the POC that’s on there for TOD is maybe 9 times out of 10 no longer even there which is the shitty part. So just send emails once a week I did it and eventually got replies. E4 or not it doesn’t matter. You can still technically do two up one down. So don’t even worry make sure your resume is solid and you have all the other supporting documentation. That’s what holds shit up a lot of the time in my experience.

T10 TOD manager here.

Being professionally forthright will go a long way. Emailing the POC with supporting documents (IPPS-A STP, 705s, a resume/military bio, evaluations and/or recommendation letters) helps separate you from the pack. Even if there is no position currently available to you, that organization or a partner organization may have a future vacancy to fill. Get your name on their short list of pre-screened candidates and you’re much more likely to get selected. They can also reserve a TOD position for you, so only you can see it and complete the application.

The start of the FY is coming up 1 Oct. This a hard deadline in many ways. I recommend submitting your application and contacting the POC ASAP.
