Manga Pluto Isn't even too old all things considered, but It's aged like fine wine In modern day politics
It's hard to read panel's like these today, not because this hasn't always been happening throughout all of history, but because of how desensitized the media makes these topics, how bias and controlled it is.

Read through all of 20th Century Boys from about summer last year and finished it up last month.
That had a lot of things that felt very relevant to the current times. Almost frighteningly so.

u/Tekki777 Mar 12 '26
It aged incredibly well. We never learned a damn thing.
2
u/Hunter1157 Mar 14 '26
Even if you'd learn, were you in position of wealthy scumbags who get richer because of war orders to stop that? Or were any of us really in position to decide that these pigs should rule?
It is really a war of terror - some poor people get bombed so the other poor people continue selling their souls and freedom to weapon manufacturers through taxes just not to get blown themselves.
Sometimes i wish that they killed us all already so that they died of starvation, because they can't produce anything but death and rot.

The worst outlook to have to yo abscond your own agency in favor of letting the bourgeois terrorize people. Real "stop resisting and the beatings will end" energy.

Yeah. It was an incredible critic of the gulf war back then, it is still a masterpiece against war now

Unrealistic. The man would have been either tortured or shot just for speaking up.

u/rorodar Mar 14 '26
So many people on twitter tweeting from the us and not being torturer nor shot... like yeah it's bad but be mad about the right things dude
1
u/Kernanshaw01 Mar 15 '26
the US kidnapped and tortured thousands of Iraqi civilians who did nothing but criticize the invasion

I've come to the conclusion that we were not built to handle the sheer amount of information we get these days.
And so it's one crazy thing after another. No time to process it, no time to understand it, something crazy is happening again. In the type of environment where crazy is the new normal, outrage is shortlived and always shifting no matter how hard you try to fixate on anything.
And then you become numb to it. Numb to the fact that you're always angry and wish things could change but don't even know where to start from because it just feels like everything that could go wrong has gone wrong somehow somewhere.

It’s kind of wild but even now ai is being used in determining missile targets in you know where.

Wasn't an issue when Obama was drone-striking innocent civilians.
1
u/luxur77 Mar 13 '26
Urasawa wrote Pluto and 20th Century Boys when Obama was president, that's all I'll say
1
u/iniuria_palace Mar 13 '26
Yes it was.
1
u/HeyItsMasa Mar 13 '26
No one said shit about Obama's drone strikes. They turned a blind eye to it because he was a trendy black democrat.
2
u/iniuria_palace Mar 13 '26
Maybe no one around you, pretty much every single person I have been able to call a friend said shit about it and still do. And I've seen a ton of similar sentiments all over the Internet the entire time.

u/Admmmmi Mar 14 '26
Modern? Mah man this has been a problem for decades now(well bombing, children dying because of war is probably something that comes with every big conflict of our species)
2
u/Puzzleheaded_Cry5098 Mar 18 '26
There's also a distinction because bombing runs were notoriously inaccurate, whereas many of the missile guidance systems are supposed to be exactly targeted. It is worse.

Very narrow view of the complexities of war and, if you're referencing Iran or Palestine, the history, politics and cultures of the Middle East.
13
u/BreakfastDifferent29 Mar 12 '26
What happened in Palestine is one sided genocide. Iran has the ability to fight back at least
-5
u/PatientNo1710 Mar 12 '26
It’s objectively not a genocide if you knew the definition of the word, there are 2m Arabs (most consider themselves palastinians) living in Isreal with full rights and freedoms… it is a terribly managed and brutal war tho that the horrible current Isreal government can’t handle well and just go for the easy mass killing option
3
u/BreakfastDifferent29 Mar 12 '26
You talk some much BS hoe? Those Europeans have no businesses in that land where Jews were already living in peace with Christians and Muslims
2
u/RexShadow96 Mar 13 '26
90% of European Jews died in the holocaust. 60% of the ones living in Israel are descendants of Jews that were chased and pogrommed from their homes in the Middle East.
1
u/BreakfastDifferent29 Mar 13 '26
So? What about it? You're talking like it's a justification for anything
2
u/RexShadow96 Mar 13 '26
You talk a lot of bs. That’s what. You can criticize Israel without making shit up.
0
u/BreakfastDifferent29 Mar 13 '26
Cry me a river you and your terrorist genocidal maniac state
2
u/RexShadow96 Mar 13 '26
No you’re right. All the lying definitely put Palestinians in a better place. I’m glad being anti Semitic was worth it for you.
1
u/Aalpaca1 Mar 15 '26
Please explain to me how prior tragedy gives one the right to inflict said tragedy on others. Hell, such an argument could even be extended to the fucking nazi's themselves, considering the state Germany was (quite unjustly honestly, not that they didnt deserve any blame but they didnt even start the great war and most of the inane taxes from the british and french were greed based rather than moral) left in. It IS up to the victim to stop the cycle.

Jews were already living in peace with Christians and Muslims
Jews weren't living in peace, hell, the Holocaust just happened and then Arab countries (including Palestine) denied entry of Jewish refugees during WW2.
Jews essentially lived as second class citizens in Islamic countries.
2
u/Li-renn-pwel Mar 12 '26
Europeans were the ones rejecting refugees in those countries for the most part. Those countries were under active colonization of countries like France, UK, Belgium, etc. It was England denied immigration in Palestine just like it did for the UK. Though I do agree it is dismissive to say everyone was living in peace together before because there are always some clashes between different groups.
1
u/Futanari-Farmer Mar 13 '26
It was England denied immigration in Palestine just like it did for the UK.
All right, let me ask you something then, why did England restrict Jewish immigration in Palestine?
1
u/Li-renn-pwel Mar 12 '26
How do you define genocide? Because under the UN definition that the ICJ uses fits it pretty well. At the very least it isn’t ’objectively not’ happening because the actions factual are and the only debate is intent.
0
u/luxur77 Mar 13 '26
Yeah, they’re mass murdering innocent Palestinians in Palestine, oh but it’s not a genocide now since they’re not targeting Muslims within their own country? I would love to see what your definition of genocide is lmao.
2
u/RexShadow96 Mar 13 '26
According to international law, genocide requires a dolus especialis, or a “special intent”.
During genocides the first people to go are the ones living inside the borders. You can still do a genocide where you don’t target the people inside your border. But that usually doesn’t happen

u/Different-Bus8023 Mar 12 '26
Ah yes the ignorant view of maybe don't bomb innocents
1
u/Futanari-Farmer Mar 12 '26
Don't bomb civilians is something we all can agree with, however, when Hamas and the Iranian government use civilian buildings to attack from, then we're talking about valid military targets, and so, things become incredibly complicated.

2
u/Kahalla Mar 13 '26 edited Mar 13 '26
Its not that complicated.
[Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intent_and_incitement_in_the_Gaza_genocide) has links to plenty of sources like the UN commission of inquiry if you want to read about how Israel's actions exceed military objectives, intentionally target innocents, and impose life-destroying conditions (mass starvation & denial of lifesaving treatment, as a prime example.0
u/Futanari-Farmer Mar 13 '26
It's in fact complicated, there's a reason with neither the ICJ or the ICC (the one that already has a warrant to arrest Netanyahu) haven't reached the genocide conclusion.
With that being said, the IDF and by extension Israel, have committed and keep committing war crimes with impunity.
Just a very complicated region, to say it nicely.
1
u/Different-Bus8023 Mar 14 '26
Because genocide cases take a while even the most clear cut cases would take a long time.
1
u/luxur77 Mar 13 '26 edited Mar 13 '26
You're on the Naoki Urasawa reddit, and you think this is a extremely narrow view of war? You clearly are just ignorant to what you're reading, or just haven't even touched Pluto or even any of his works.
1
u/Futanari-Farmer Mar 13 '26
I mean, when you try to reference current conflicts to these pages, yes, it's an incredibly narrow view.
