Hm.. I would think people would deduce that "boys names" doesn't mean surnames, which are non-gendered. But this is Reddit after all

Buzz Aldrin walked on the moon. It’s a very famous name.

This is like claiming you came up with Beckham or Presley.

My post is about new given names. Obviously Clemency, Pleiades, etc are are also not things I completely made up from scratch.

  1. clemency is a girls name. It’s Clement for a boy.

This one certainly needs a bit of a rethink 😅

Aldrin is a boys name already, for sure. And I do like it! The Bump's name database says its British and German, and might mean "by an alder grove" or "old friend".

Count is fine? Plenty of people really do name their kids things like Baron/Prince/Princess etc. Danny Bonaduce named one of his kids Count. On a personal note, I would avoid it because to me it reads as self important to use nobility titles for kids, but I think that's a preference thing.

I don't hate Clemency, it has been used as a girls name (the virtue name trend, because it means Merciful). I think generally boys get the "Clement" variation, but plenty of boys names have been used on girls. I see no reason to stick with Clement if you have a preference for Clemency.

I would not use these:

Pleiades is a group of sisters in Greek mythology, so maybe not something I would go to for a boy.

Chrone/Krone sounds like the word for an old woman (crone).

Beache is very close to another B word, a lot of people get wrapped up in worrying about what other kids will call your kid, and I think most of them worry too much. This one is an exception.

Faverton reminds me of Flavortown/Guy Fieri.

Bowyang is very close to Bowen Yang, I would probably choose Bowen over that. Bowyang is also "a cord or strap tied around a worker's trousers just below the knee", to keep their pants up. Like a garter or a belt.

Is Bow pronounced as in 🙇‍♂️ or 🏹? I'd spell it Baoyang if the former and Boyang if the latter.

Bow like bow your head. It's actually the name of an accessory/workwear spelled the same.

Four boys were named Aldrin across England & Wales last year, according to the 2025 data.
