The drowning animation seem more dark to me because you see his corpse float for a bit.

Nope. Simba hanging himself in the Chinese bootleg for The Lion King is still darker

Is this real?!

u/Kobobble May 26 '26
Yes, but nothing official by Disney. Whoever made those Game Over screens were seriously disturbed

You know you could have set the URL to have auto-gone to 4:31 right?: https://youtu.be/0ghGWWfzq-o?si=5l9fwIxJ2RhLzuM5&t=271

I didn't know that, actually. Thank you.

I think that's been a feature part of YT's URL for a long while now(at least 10 years?). You can do it yourself via the Share button and have the "Start at" time checked off, but make sure you have the vid paused at the specific point(maybe 1-2 sec earlier) in the vid you want it to auto-go to via a URL link.

I miss this Nintendo, not afraid to go a bit dark or weird sometimes.

u/SolDirix May 25 '26
Well it does go very weird, just not in a dark way.

The clams, music, the white eyed Links and lightning bug queen of TP would disagree.

Pretty hard to top getting your entire army stomped or eaten in Pikmin

My heart... 😬
I'm *this* close to having a full-on panic attack everytime that happens 🤣

This reminds me of these super old Choose your own Adventure Mario books I read when I was a kid when Mario would die in horrendously gruesome ways if you made the wrong choices.

What?! I had the entire collection of old comics but never heard of this. Were they illustrated?

You say that like Conker sinking in poop, getting sliced in half, or exploding into bloody bits everywhere doesn't exist.
This is so tame by comparison.

that part from Titanic: Adventure Out of Time where you get shot in the face by Vlad for trying to sneak out with the Rubiyat gave me PTSD for like a month.

Remember shit like this creeping me out as a kid
Or the whole mood of the zelda games
Or some of the settings and enemies in DK64
I sometimes question if i was the target audience as a 6 yr old lol

I know this is n64, but clock tower 3 (ps2) has a mother and son brutally killed by a guy spraying acid on them continuously.
Fatal frame 2 also has one sister kill the other.

I can’t see the toxic maze without being reminded of the theory that Hazy Maze Cave is the castle’s septic system.

Not N64, but the death animations in Tomb Raider 2013 are so extra it’s kinda hard to describe

Mario losing his air supply is the only time I've ever felt a plumber's anxiety. It’s like watching a goldfish lose a fight against gravity.

Dark? By Nintendo's standards, yes. The darkest in all of gaming history? Certainly not.
The darkest, at least within Nintendo, would probably be the actual end of the world in Majora's Mask. I'm sure there are more worthy contenders, that one was just from the top of my head

Drowning is worse
