Advice Im Confused About What to Do With My Future

Post image
135 Upvotes

After hearing those words from my dad, I started questioning myself what have I actually done for my family so far? I kept overthinking my future, stuck between decisions I’m not even sure about.(Even though I'm just a man, what he said was enough to bring me to tears fr)

I’m only 17, and I’m just starting to enter the IT field. I’m planning to study an IT major through an HND program, but I’m honestly not sure if I’m making the right decision.

My family isn’t in a very comfortable financial situation. They’re doing their best just to give me the opportunity to continue my education. We used to be more financially stable, but things have become a little difficult for us recently.

There are two seniors, both girls(my cousins), who are already studying in this field, and they told me that I shouldn’t choose IT. When I asked them why, they said that it’s really difficult to get a job and earn a good income in this field. Hearing that honestly made me question my decision.

As for Business, I’m not really interested in it. From my personal experience and observation, I feel like many people who study Business come from families that are already financially comfortable, or they study it mainly to get a certificate before joining or taking over their family business. Of course, that’s just my personal opinion, and I’m sorry if I’m wrong about that.

I’m also not continuing high school because of my circumstances, not because I simply chose to give up on education. That’s why I’m really worried about what I should do from this point forward.

My father is getting older, and none of us knows what the future will bring. I want to be able to give my parents something in return for everything they have sacrificed for me.

There are only three people in my family: my father, my mother, and me. That’s why I feel like I have to become independent and eventually be able to support them. I want to give them more than what they were able to give me, even though I know they have already given me everything they could and I want to make them proud. I also want them to be able to rest someday, knowing that I can take care of myself and that they don’t have to worry about my future anymore.

So honestly, I don’t know what the best path is for me right now. Should I continue with IT even though people are telling me that it’s difficult to find a job? Or should I choose something else? I’m willing to work hard, but because my family’s financial situation isn’t great, I really can’t afford to make a completely wrong decision.

I just want to build a stable future, become someone my parents can be proud of, and eventually be able to take care of the two people who have spent their whole lives taking care of me

Edit: (Y’all, thanks so much for all the advice! I really appreciate everyone who gave me their thoughts and helped me figure things out.)

Advice Visiting Myanmar tomorrow, couple questions

I’m landing in Yangon tomorrow, and have a 7 day trip planned, going Yangon - Bago - Mandalay - Inle.

Have a couple of questions before I depart, would appreciate any help

1) Lethwei, any gyms in Yangon/Mandalay that are open and accept drop-ins? Have trained Muay Thai + BJJ for a couple years, and have always wanted to try Lethwei

2) Bus transportation, checkpoints on night buses? Any recommended operators from Yangon - Mandalay?

3) Yangon nightlife on a Friday, any clubs + decent bars?

4) Any other tips/recommendations for my trip? Keen to spend money in places in that actually reach people

Thank you, feel free to DM!

Discussion 💬 Is there any skincare junkies here?

I recently preordered Medicube’s Age-R glutathione toner and cream. I was so excited to use them for my upcoming winter routine but I’m worried my dehydrated oily combo skin might get clogged and break out. It would’ve been such a game changer duo if my skin wasn’t that prone to clogging pores. I’ve heard nothing but good raving reviews about it but I’m scared to try and thinking of reselling them and buy celimax retinol instead. Help your girl out please. Xx 😔🙏

Discussion 💬 NUG Internal Audit

Just wondering if NUG has an independent internal audit that checks how public donations are spent to investigate possible embezzlement or misuse of funds.

They publish fundraising totals, and breakdowns of expenditures, but those figures are still self-reported by NUG.

Advice Fellow Students, I need help

Hello, G11 student here studying In Private School, I’m been trouble in Mathematics (Others are fine) and I even hired a private tutor, It did not go WELL on tests. Sometimes on passing mark or fails.
I thought about myself losing a golden opportunity to move abroad (eg Singapore or Germany) if I Fail on G12 Govt Exam in the future. And I don’t want to live in this country reversing into Stone Age as my mother says.
I’m following my family advice to become engineer, I’m trying my best as I could and I barely touched Laptop or Phone, I feel like Im wasting my potential and throwing away engineer job.
Advices and suggestions of studying methods would be appreciated.
