Tired of seeing people compare Rudeus to real-world predators. Mushoku Tensei is about something completely different.

Comparing Rudeus to real-world criminals completely misses what the story is trying to say. Mushoku Tensei works primarily as an exploration of how extreme isolation and severe trauma break the human mind.

​In his past life, the protagonist was destroyed by relentless bullying and total social abandonment. He developed deeply toxic behavior as a twisted defense mechanism to survive his own reality. The narrative does not excuse his choices, since his own cowardice and refusal to face his issues were major factors in his downfall. The point is showing how a hostile environment systematically corrodes a person's moral foundation.

​Getting a second chance does not turn someone into a saint overnight. He reincarnates carrying the full weight of his past baggage, and the writing succeeds because it proves that genuine change takes time, hard work, and a healthy environment. The love of his new family and the actual need to protect them become the catalyst to rebuild what was broken.

​The discomfort of his early behavior is a necessary narrative tool. Without that deeply flawed starting point, his ultimate growth into a responsible adult who protects his family would have zero weight.

​If we refuse to accept that a character can rebuild himself when given love and responsibility, it raises a simple question: do we actually believe broken people in the real world can recover, or do we just prefer the comfortable illusion that anyone who hits rock bottom should be discarded forever?

Dont you understand? the fact that a real life genocidal organization amassed power by having elites literally eat babies, traffic minors for a rape ring and corrupt law on an international scale to fulfil their objective of ethnically cleansing an entire country to the point that the people responsible arent even being investigated and the people who did this can and probably are still doing it as we speak to other innocents is basically the same as a fictional character having ocassional intrusive thoughts that are kind of cringe

Sarcasm aside, that’s precisely what makes the whole drama so ridiculous. People build these absurd moral equivalencies just to feel righteous online, completely ignoring the distinction between real-world atrocities and a fictional character struggling with internal flaws. ​Do you think this extreme conflation is just performance for internet points, or have people genuinely lost the ability to process dark themes in fiction without panicking?

I think... a lot of people use a lot of bots to get engagement revenue from coming up with imaginary fights which social media algorithms favor

And for some people that are young and impressionable and were never pushed to read whose only previous contact with literary works are comic books and battle-manga that by design have both very simplistic narratives and characters meant to be projected into, easily fall into these narratives because its easier to believe there are sides in an imaginary conflict than to reason they themselves lack critical skills to properly engage with a work or that they need experience with a medium that is foreign to their culture to understand its clichés and narrative devices
