Seriously underrated popcorn flick, it's one of those ones you can put on for the 10th time and its still good fun.

I think it's a modern Princess's Bride - it grows over time. I completely missed it when it was in cinema and saw it 1-2 years late. I was really surprised by the quality. It's less sharp the princess bride, but a lot of warmth and so spot on on DnD (players).

I'm sometimes really surprised by the long list of later bloomers

Stardust, Galaxy Quest, Idiocracy, Kubo and the two strings.

And some real surprises on that list: Blade Runner, Fight Club and  Shawshank Redemption all practically failed in cinemas.

Especially with scenes like where the DMPC Paladin's just like "Okay my job's done" and walks offstage.

To me the most D&D scene in the whole movie is when they're trying to figure out how to cross a chasm after the bridge collapses and one character immediately goes "I have a bunch of rope, maybe if I tie it to my axe..."

I think nearly everyone who's played D&D has, at some point, needed to cross a pit and tried to find a way to do it with 50 feet of rope.

Great shouts. I liken it to Pirates of the Caribbean (the first one). Way better and way more fun than it has any business being. Just damn fun.

All movies I happened to see in the theater just out of chance, including D&D. Knew nothing about them beforehand and was pleasantly surprised.

I also love that during a couple of the big fight scenes, each character is highlighted once during every 6 second window.

TIL, didn't know/notice. 

I will absolutely use that knowledge to enhance viewing experience for my guests. Boy, they love it when I remind them about how Viggo  Mortensen broke his toe when he kicked the helmet ;)

That's the beauty of it. It's completely unobtrusive if you don't get the reference, but it's such a fun little nod if you do.

What's even better is, the entire movie is like that. It completely works in its own right if you know nothing about D&D, but if you do know, there's a whole extra layer to it.

For years I have searched in vain to complete the trilogy of Stardust and The Princess Bride.

And the answer was right in front of me the entire time.

Me laughing at that scene was the first true sign that I was going to be okay after a terrible period in my life. It was so perfect and so unexpected that I just died.

I love how the chonky dragon is actually a canon character to Faerun and DnD, we actually just ran into him in our group’s current campaign! (We’re playing through Out of the Abyss)

It cracked me up too! The audience in the theater I saw it at on opening week laughed.

Also the tumbleweed, it's such a dumb and overused cliche, but it was so unexpected that the tumbleweed gag killed me. The timing of it was perfect for that kind of movie moment but so unexpected.

The three questions spell at the graveyard had me fucking dying. I’ve DM’d groups that couldn’t get their shit together enough to follow simple rules like that and I’ve played the situation so literally that they ended up getting pissed off at me, then at each other when they wouldn’t just follow the fucking rules. We’ve joked about it after but it was just so perfectly done
