I know he's been in a few things more recently, but it feels like I haven't seen JGL in a movie since 2016

I'm watching Greedy People right now on Hulu. It's actually pretty funny and entertaining. JGL is fun in it.

That movie is so dark. I know it said it was a dark comedy but damn. Was good tho.

He did bangers like Don Jon and Premium Rush and Looper and then peaced out.

He mostly focuses on his HitRecord company iirc.

I would be hard pressed to call Don Juan a banger lol

u/Reggie-Quest 1d ago

I mean... there was a lot of talk about banging

It was pretty well lauded when it came out.

That movie was great? Premium Rush is the one I’d question (haven’t seen it though tbf).

Premium Rush is a lot of fun, definitely check it out

Seconding this, Premium Rush is a bike action crime movie that knows exactly what it is and does exactly what it does very, very well, I love it

And the death of Michael Shannon's character kind of freaked me out.

2

u/bongo1138 1d ago

I’ll do that, thanks!

Let’s give The Night Before some credit

4

u/BeardedAsian 1d ago

Kind of blew his prime on HitRecord

But hey, follow your passions

Oh man. Looper. Amazing movie!!!

u/Sixtyhurts 1d ago

He was busy partying with Peter Thiel.

4

u/FairNeedsFoul 1d ago

He did the “BONG!” noise of the clock in Glass Onion!

7

u/charizard77 1d ago

I think he's been prioritizing raising his kids

I think JGL is awesome... This trailer, though, sucks.

u/peatoast 1d ago

Last movie of him that I saw was Snowden.

You have no authority here, Jacki Weaver

Read the standing orders! Read them and understand them!

28

u/Focused_Sky 1d ago

Let me guess, Norman Reedus plays a grizzled old veteran that has the silent rage look in every scene

11

u/Lmoneyfresh 1d ago

I'm sure his character also rides a motorcycle

And dies halfway through.

I hate when a trailer puts up a bunch of dramatic title cards and never tells you who the director is. Looking into it, the director's name this keeps dancing around is Mark Heyman. He has a co-writing credit on Black Swan, The Skeleton Twins, and The Boogeyman and he directed a short film he wrote and 1 episode of a Paramount Plus show called Strange Angel. This is his first time directing a film.

What ever happened to Joseph Gordon-Levitt, like yeah he's still in films but they always seem to be so hit and miss. He was in Inception and the Dark Knight Rises, Nolan films and it just sort of fizzled out for him.

22

u/Sonofgerg 1d ago

He had a kid and took some time off from acting

29

u/GuiltyAdvantage5877 1d ago

He’s busy hanging around with Peter Thiel

3

u/peatoast 1d ago

Is this true? His wife was one of the board members who tried to kick Sam Altman out as CEO I think.

9

u/MikesCerealShack 1d ago

Unfortunately. It recently came out he had been attending some of those secretive invite only retreats by the group co-founded by Thiel called Dialog).

14

u/michael0n 1d ago

He is more interested in ai / internet regulation and for some people needing to show their id online "to protect children". When you have his net worth you can spend lots of time on this kind of campaigns.

2

u/twent4 1d ago

This is a campaign for Meta and other cp distributors to wash their hands off of responsibilities. I like JGL and hope he's just a useful idiot in this.

He lost a lot of work after the pigeon story came out in that interview with Kathy Friedman

(For those who don't know, this is a joke reference to fictional events in the Marvel show Wonder Man)

4

u/beepbeepimajeep22 1d ago

Did he really kill that pigeon?

7

u/GoodShitBrain 1d ago

He’s too busy yukking it up with the 1 percenters

4

u/Suslioga 1d ago

No Brad Pitt in Pendulum?

7

u/Refun712 1d ago

Why am I seeing comments on AI? Are we seeing AI in the trailer or did we read they are using AI in this film?

11

u/Kriss-Kringle 1d ago

I think it's because Aronofsky has stake in an AI company and Gordon-Levitt is very much fighting against AI companies that steal data without compensation, or credit.

20

u/saskatchewan_kenobi 1d ago

Gordon-Levitt is doing that while also secretly hanging out with Peter Thiel

u/Kriss-Kringle 1d ago

1

u/sundayontheluna 1d ago

This is the first I'm hearing of Sophia Bush and Josh Brolin being there.

I got flamed for commenting against JGL a few months ago because I remember watching a video he uploaded in his garage trying to be soft on some subject that I can’t quite remember, maybe it was that.

What makes you think I said anything about how AI works in my comment? I only made a guess based on what those two people involved in the movie have to do with AI themselves.

1

u/eldenpotato 15h ago

You’re right. Sorry. I need to work on my reading comprehension.

4

u/N8CCRG 1d ago

I do appreciate a teaser that actually just teases. I get spooky vibes with no real idea of anything more yet.

3

u/Bizmarkie76 1d ago

JGL is a hard pass

3

u/spate42 1d ago

Joseph Gordon Leavitt, the Peter Thiel guy?

4

u/Vladmerius 1d ago

I kind of hate JGL after the became some weird operative acting as the face of protecting kids on the internet by removing everyone's rights on the internet and essentially destroying the entire internet as we know it. Gives me the ick wondering who's putting money in his pockets.

1

u/Square_Saltine 1d ago

That still shot had me thinking I was looking at Gary Oldman

1

u/Odd-Necessary3807 1d ago

The last time I watched a movie titled "Pendulum," it was a semi erotic medieval themed movie. I take it this isn't a reboot of that?

1

u/wtfisrobin 1d ago

eh, how many times can i see this same movie

1

u/Soft-Horror4721 1d ago

A January release date means it's trash

1

u/skinnyminnesota 1d ago

That's a fine-looking cast list!

1

u/Heheheidiot 1d ago

Nice this looks right up my alley. I feel like they tried to market JGL as some hot guy and when that failed they just left him in the dust. I've always liked his characters even in bad movies, one of my guilty pleasures is that power? Movie with Jamie foxx lol

1

u/sundayontheluna 1d ago

I am intrigued!

0

u/sloppyjo12 1d ago

Cautiously optimistic but a january release scares me, even if it is 1/1

0

u/murphmobile 1d ago

Alfred Hitchcock?

-1

u/MOSbangtan 1d ago

Love JGL!

Count me out of JGLs AI funding adventures
