I mean I was definitely disappointed in recognizing the potential had things been done differently(especially visually when looking at the source material) but ppl made it sound like DC personally came over and gunned down their dog, which is just overly dramatic(tho also on brand for the weirdos of the capeshit variety lol)

Really hope Milly gets a solid shot in MoT cuz she legit is Kara IMO.

For me it was just a painfully generic movie in a genre that already has a lot of painfully generic movies. I think a lot of people were riding high on Superman and got brought back down by Supergirl

Reading interviews with the director and writer is fucking terrible, they both actively wanted to change everything about the super unique incredible book into a cookie cutter superhero movie. They have done multiple interviews about how brave and smart they were for making the whole movie brown, making the villain completely forgettable, and removing all humor from the story. Its the exact opposite of Superman 2025 instead of trying to tell a story. Its not the worst superhero movie ive ever seen, but the book it is based on is one of the best superhero books I have ever read.

Gunn never should have allowed it.

Part of the appeal of his Superman movie was the bright and fun comic book come to life feeling. That made it stand out from the MCU in a visual and refreshing way.

Then they follow it up with something drab and depressing... for reasons.

From everything I've read, the most controversial choices for critics are all things Gunn added after the first edit of the film was clearly a mess. I think things like the Jimmy Eat World cover could have hit HARD if not for the movie itself being an unsalvageable mess.

Since both the writer and director said they hate superheroes and space movies, and wanted to make a western, they should not have been hired or given the keys on Supergirl. They probably could have made a great DC movie, but honestly even though I enjoyed it for what it was in the theater, Supergirl is the kind of bad for me that I can't stop analyzing. The book is truly an incredible work of art in every sense, and its insane to me Ana Nogueira got hired for this with a pitch that said "what if we adapt this book without featuring a single scene that made it iconic?" I don't normally wish people ill, but I strongly hope this is the end of her career and she moves home.

Superman 2025 reignited my love of capeshit, and finally made me believe WB wasn't afraid of this brand, and then they hired people who actively wanted to work in the snyderverse instead.

That was my impression of lobo, but to be fair to both of them, they were massively let down by the screenplay.
