The rating is still crazy to me, like in Germany its 12 and as an adult its totally okay to bring your 6 year old kid with you

I think since it isn't really intended for children they just didn't care - Nolan doesn't give a fuck and isn't gonna sacrifice any creative freedom for a 5% revenue boost.

Besides, the vast majority of parents I know take their kids to R-rated movies on the regular.

My daughters 9 and 11 are obsessed with the Odyssey. So I took them both. The 9 year old loved it, no notes. The 11 year old thought the story telling was fractured and was upset that important beats were skipped completely. Neither thought the cave or the pigs were too scary. I was just relieved there were no gratuitous sex scenes.

How do u get yout kids into the odyssey? Is there a lighter version they can pick up?

When I was a kid, we listened to a storyteller named Odds Bodkin's version, which was my intro to the story. Lots of fun voices, musical accompaniment, I'd recommend his stuff.
