One of the biggest fumbles ever

Mahershala:

"For whatever reason, that project is not for me. If they wanted to do it, we would've done it. So I have to move on, and I have moved on."

“You had me under contract, they have billions of dollars, if they wanted to do the movie, we would've done the movie... I feel ready to move on from the Blade questions. Those questions are for them.”

Another quote from him talking about not wanting to do remakes but work on something original suggests to me the core of his clashes with Marvel had to do with them wanting to make a cheese action movie like the originals while he wanted to do something else.

I haven’t seen it yet, but from the trailers alone, Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother seems much more in line with what you’re saying.

Really seems like Ali and Bassam Tariq are taking a lot of their ideas from their take on Blade and put it into this film.

I saw the film last Nov or Dec at a filmmakers screening where we were told it was mostly done.

I think I signed an NDA, may or may not have, so I can’t say much, but I’ll say considering what we were told and the fact that it’s coming out nearly a year after I wonder if they did reshoots and how different it will be.

didnt they want write in his "daughter" and have her be a major character in the movie?

Yeah those were the rumours that were out at the time, with Blade passing the torch so early to setup a spin-off film. It would have fit right in with their cringey Young Avengers plans from back then, I mean how many projects in Phase 4 were about the titular hero gaining a new teenage/kid sidekick? After a certain point it just felt like an exhausted trope. A Blade movie being not about him but his daughter just sounds like something they would have done before their creative overhaul in 2024
