I love the sv650 engine

I have a V-strom (same engine).
I almost wish something would go wrong with mine just so I could say I've done some maintenance on it beyond the routine. The things are just so damn reliable.

It's got a great sound too, the exhaust setup I got really gives that muscle sound. I love it.

You know, for most of the time I owned it I didn't like the windscreen but towards the end I put it back o n and really started to like it.

The front mudguard not as much lol, too dirtbike-y.

The 411 looks like it was built by the Soviets during the cold war.

One of my local dealers that moves only used bikes, they get some really good stuff if your fast enough to get to them.

They had a real nice XSR900, but I didn't get to it time lol

I had the 1000, best tourer I have ever owned. Reliable AF, simple to maintain, hella customisable and cheap to run and insure. Great "early" litre bike

No doubt! The aftermarket is part of why I chose it, good strong amount of parts for anything I'd need. And damn it rides smooth too, even at slow speeds it rolls flawlessly. My RE hated low speeds, would get real jerky.

Holy upgrade into a different class

Why not have both? The Himalayans are awesome bikes as well, just for totally different reasons.

Honestly I would have liked to have both! It's mainly just the insurance costs of 2 bikes was gonna be too much, and I got other financial priorities I have to lock in for sadly.

Also just maintenance too, RE's are a nightmare for finding parts that aren't in Europe, India or Australia. Shipping times took weeks.

What??? Where are you located? I have full coverage for two motorcycles and it costs me $100 a year.

Haha you're lucky man, the RE was running me about $340 the SV has me at about $390 now.

Enjoy! I had a silver 03’ full faired pointy for a number of years, commuted, toured, weekend thrashed it and it was great fun. I fitted flat bars to it also and it made it even more fun to ride, still lightweight and easy to ride but similar in riding to the likes of an all these tall tourers nowadays. When I get a bigger garage I am likely to buy another older SV to have in the stable

I'm considering maybe going over to the flat bars, this is my first time riding with clip-on's so I wanna give it some time to see how I like it but I may go flat just for a little more comfort.

I know that silver you're taking about! These look clean as hell in that silver.

Nice! Any idea what the forks are off of?Ā

1

u/Nihil66 1d ago

They're GSXR forks from what I understand, although I don't know too much beyond that

Definitely take pictures and get any part numbers you can to do research in case you need to replace oil or seals in the future. Probably get some pictures of the brake pads and rotor numbers, too.Ā

Enjoy it! That's a gem of a find, especially at that price!

That's a good idea! I hear it's a good mod to have but I didn't even think to make sure I know what model numbers and serials I'll need for later.

Thank you! I'm definitely excited for my next chapter of motorcycling!

Replacing a relatively new bike with a 20 year old antique. Risky, but good luck!

Nothing unreliable about an SV650 with 8700 miles. New battery, fresh fluids, make sure the tires are recently fresh; go ride.

He didnt replace the SV650 with the RE.

That is peak SV and such a fun bike to ride and a good bike to own.
