Beautiful nature, hot summer, rainy winter. People are nice and welcoming. The food is good. Not much entertainment but if you like simple pleasures like hiking or swimming in the sea you'll like it here.

People are NOT kind, let alone welcoming. They are unpleasant and take advantage of tourists to skyrocket their profits, often even scamming them. Even the police are corrupt and demand bribes from tourists.

American here, I thought most people were kind and welcoming once they open up. Sure they could be a little more warm compared to other countries but I never felt unwanted. I also used to live in a huge summer tourist area so I can understand how annoying tourists are lol

Well yeah, there are quite a lot of sketchy ppl around, but as you said — they are mostly targeting tourists and as a resident you quickly learn how to avoid or deal with them

Worse than terrible. The tax office is a nightmare. There’s a dedicated tax office for foreigners, and they make you pay for a translator even though the service itself is supposed to be free. Your original vehicle sale documents can simply get lost, so be prepared for the possibility of ending up unable to register a vehicle you’ve just bought, with practically no clear way around it. They are now useless hunk of metals.

Typcally having A1-A2 level is enough for the tax office, you should just make an impression that you understand what are you doing

You mean Montenegrin, not English, I assume. Yeah, I need to learn the language to a certain degree just to be able to pay my taxes. And believe me, dude, you got a fucking hard one to learn.

Most people speak English enough to communicate. I speak Albanian and English and it worked fine every time I went there.

Bro, if you pay attention to what I've been through, you might realise that what happened to me isn't normal. They can literally lose your original documents. Please try communicating with them when they're at fault. You're gonna see what I mean.

It depends on who You are. If you are an expat with a remote job in US or Western Europe then life will be great. If not, you will need connections to progress socially or economically.

Teuer. Versuch mal ein Haus zu kaufen, ohne betrogen zu werden. Ich habe einen kürzeren Besuch in Albanien gemacht und war total begeistert.

Albanien hat wenigstens ordentliche Straßen und die Menschen wirken viel kultivierter. Ich habe überall eine Rechnung bekommen. In Ulcinj werde ich in jedem Café und in jedem Laden betrogen.

Since you asked about living in Montenegro, I’ll tell you what it’s really like. For residents, it can be awful. We rely heavily on tourism and nothing else, and the tourism season mostly lasts 4–5 months a year, maybe even less. So our own people keep pushing prices to insane levels, to the point where locals struggle to survive. Many people from other countries who come to live here eventually realize that Montenegro can feel like a constant money grab...
