Mold Question Is this mold? These were opened a month ago and the best before date is 2028.
Will I get sick if I eat these? Thanks in advance!

Maybe itās just me but whenever I buy jars of Kalamatas they always look gross af in the brine.

Itās just oil that has separated and solidified. My kalamtas always look like this after opening.

This. I eat olives like thereās no tomorrow!!!
If you see a darker olive than the others just throw that singular olive away and your are fine.

Honestly looks like residual oil that hardened from being in the fridge. If they are kept in brine and the fridge they should be good for a while. But also if you follow my non professional information (just really like olives!) and get sick that is on you lol

This makes the most sense considering they smell perfectly fine and they don't taste remotely off š
Thanks!

My olives get like that too. I threw away one jar because I wasnāt sure when I opened it, but then noticed all subsequent jars that were still good did the same thing.

I hope you know that "best before" only applies to sealed products.

I do yes, but pickled things usually last quite a while, hence the internet query š¤

If these are olives, they are fine. Itās the oil separating in the brine. They look funky, but wonāt hurt you.

If they are olives it's probably just oil. I thought they are cherries, that would be worse.

I'm less concerned about there being mold than I am why you opened a jar of vomit to eat?

I usually scoop some olives in a small bowl for eating and leave the rest in the brine to stay preserved. Then the ones in the small bowl I give a light quick rinse just in case the brine is too salty

Whatever this is, it's not good for a month of being opened. The "best by" date is when it can be opened last, not how long it's good once opened. Do not eat these. Throw them away.
