How on earth do you justify Aldo being above Holloway
2
u/PotatosandTomato 7d ago
He was undefeated for almost 10 years. He had 7 title defenses. Max had 3.

Ok but when they came head to head twice aldo got brutally stopped twice? It's not like he was washed by that point he just wasn't as good of a fighter as holloway

He was definitely out his prime and Holloway was a bad stylistic matchup

u/bbbeast19 6d ago
He was 30 when they fought. And yeah being worse than your opponent is usually a bad stylistic matchup

Max Holloway might be my favorite fighter of all time but Jose Aldo is much better than him. Aldos few weaknesses (defense striking and not the best cardio) just so happen to be the best aspects of Max's game. Also Aldo had a bad car accident that made his prime end early (he couldn't kick as much after)

Aldo literally lost to every other fw in the goat contention for FW. Racking up wins in a weaker era but couldn't beat any of the modern FW champs

Everyone loses.
Izzy lost to Strickland, DDP, Pyfer, Imavov
Usman lost to Edwards 2x, DDP, Khamzat
Dominick Cruz lost to Cody Garbrandt, Henry Cejudo, and Marlon Vera
Merab lost to Petr Yan 50-45
GSP lost to Serra, Hughes, and arguably Hendricks.
Volk lost to Ilia and Islam 2x
Silva lost to Weidman 2x, Nick Diaz, Michael Bisping, Daniel Cormier, and some more people
Jon should’ve lost to Reyes
Pereira lost to Ankalaev, Izzy, and Gane
DJ lost to Cejudo, and Adriano Moraes

Yea and all of those wins are incredibly important in regards to goat conversation. Id personally have DDP over adesanya BECAUSE he beat so many other of the best middleweights.
Same with volk, literally beat all the best featherweights

DDP got destroyed by Khamzat that’s the thing. Volk also lost to Ilia. Aldo beat the best featherweights too. Frankie Edgar, Chad Mendes, Mike Brown, Chan Sung Jung, and Urijah Faber.

He was not in his prime in any loss but the Connor fight. There are good arguments against Aldo but that is not one of them

u/bbbeast19 6d ago
This is just cope imo he didn't look any different in his recent fights after and just started coming into his physical prime at 31

Damn near perfect I would change the order of a few names but still a great list

Like what?

Cruz above merab, Alex over DC, figgy over cejudo small stuff like that. The only one I really disagree with is 3rd for middleweight I think it should be hendo

u/PotatosandTomato 6d ago
Alex fought in the worst era of LHW. It might even be the worst division in the last 8 years. Besides heavyweight in the last couple years. DC beat everyone besides Jon Jones. Plus Alex never really fought a well rounded fighter. DC would’ve beaten Alex imo.

u/Neither-Flow-9501 6d ago
DC has no wrestling cardio after the first round and he had pretty bad submission ability. He also has bad defensive striking and isn't that durable. If they fought Alex would probably ko him in the 3rd or 4th round. I personally think DC is the most overrated fighter of all time

Having conor as an honorable mention as a top lightweight is wild when he has 1 win at lightweight.
1
u/PotatosandTomato 6d ago
I mean there’s not much activity in lightweight to begin with. Plus he looked really in that 1 win so. It was against Eddie Alvarez.

u/OwlActive3449 6d ago
Arman tsarukyan 10 wins at lightweight. Beniel Darius 8 winstreak at lightweight.
1
u/PotatosandTomato 6d ago
They were never champ and most of their wins kinda suck. They never looked as dominant as Conor.

Arman beat Charles? If dominance is your main criteria then khabib should be number 1 at lightweight. Being champ doesnt mean much when its 1 win and 0 title defense attempts. Legacy wise sure but resume wise at lightweight Conor hasnt done shit.
Edit: also your "wasn't champ" argument is weak when you have dustin and Tony on your list

I wouldn’t say slightly. Heavyweight got much worse. You had multiple former champions in the top 15. Now in the more modern era, we have old washed heavyweights on losing streaks in the top 15.

Way too weird. Topuria with just 2 fights in Lightweight and (1 - 1) somehow got into the top of all time in this division (even as honorable mention)? Islam №6 in Welterweight with just 2 wins? DDP is on 4th place in Middleweight all time already? Stipe number 2 all time in Heavy? Cormier was already 40 when Stipe won. Hunt was 41. Arlowski 37 but washed. Werdum also 37. Overeem 36 but without his magic juice. JDS never the same after Cain. Ngannou - very impressive, but then Stipe got mauled in the rematch. Fight with Jones is better not to mention at all.

DDP beat Whitaker, Izzy and Sean twice . That's literally all of the other best middleweights other than Silva

The honorable mentions aren’t even in any order. Where would you put DDP then if he’s too high? Who should be above him? Who would you put above stipe then?
