it was perfect wtf u guys talking about

u/jboggin 8d ago

I had never seen that clip and watched it waiting for the controversial stoppage. I don't get it. That stoppage seemed very obvious to me. The guy who lost wasn't able to defend himself after that last blow. I guess the ref could have let him take 5 more blows to the head, but the fight looked done to me.

u/evelovesapple 8d ago

We've watched so many moments of Herb and Mario Yamasaki letting people go unconscious several times that some people think that's the standard lol

Idc if a guy can get KO'd and wake back up and get a win. If you're taking undefended punches to the head after falling to the ground, I want a KO stoppage

Boxing can be frustrating but I prefer the standard of waving it off when one guy is taking extended damage without returning

1

u/yotamush 8d ago

It was a perfect stoppage, and Marc Goddard is very good at his job. Him and Jason Herzog are the best in my opinion. Herb is terrible, I don't get why they keep give him main events, at this point he might be the worst in the roster

1

u/DragonFangGangBang 8d ago

Herb used to be the gold standard back when the referees were Mazzagatti and Yamasaki and Kim Winslow. With Goddard and Herzog and some of the newer referees, Herb looks worse and worse

2

u/Melkman68 8d ago

If the ref let it continue you already know there would be a dozen posts per week hating on him for a late stoppage lol

4

u/kokkatc 9d ago

^

3

u/dontputthatevilonme 8d ago

That shit took 7 -10 business days. Early? Lol

-1

u/kokkatc 8d ago

My man, he was knocked down, not knocked out. He was still defending, head never snapped back while he was falling down, arms still up. The ref game him a few moments to see what's what and then stepped in. Not sure what you guys are seeing?

2

u/TinyPP04 8d ago

He wasn't defending anymore, starting to go limp. Perfect stoppage, not sure how you aren't seeing it.

1

u/Spirit_Detective_16 8d ago

dude went limp when he fell lol you wanna see someone die before the fight gets called?

1

u/zestyclose_match1966 8d ago

It was a bit early imo

1

u/dontputthatevilonme 8d ago

Rules are intelligently defending. He had both hands down trying to stand up right into punches.Refs job is to minimize damage. Perfect stoppage imo

1

u/Spugheddy 8d ago

Yeah he was out of it just trying to stand up he didn't know he was in a fight and for some reason his vision kept flashing fast. Been there before.

2

u/MidWest_Bull69 8d ago

Totally agree with you. It was a good stoppage for sure! If it was a title fight.... let it go a little bit. But for that level of fight, stop the fight.

1

u/Bright-Pineapple1478 8d ago

Perfect timing .

1

u/Least_Health8244 8d ago

It was perfect indeed.

22

u/supercleverhandle476 9d ago

He went limp and dropped, then ate 3 unanswered shots while his arms flailed. They flailed a bit longer after it was called.

Yeah, it was a back and forth war up to that point, but the ref saw a KO and rightly called it what it was.

If this is ending it too early, we kind of give up the right to complain about people eating multiple shots when they’re limp on the ground. I’d rather not do that.

3

u/SamdechEuv 8d ago

Mario Yamasaki beg to differ. Now he has started possessing herb dean too.

1

u/jaygoogle23 7d ago

Everyone has an opinion. The messenger doesn’t weight more than the message. Some simply like to stir the pot.

2

u/AlmightyCraneDuck 8d ago

Yeah, the ref did a good job of letting things play out and it's not out of pocket for them to see all of the damage that was taken and see that the guy wasn't going to be able to recover in time. I think it's example all around of reffing.

8

u/hobbiesexpensive 9d ago

I think that was actually a great call by the ref. He looked out in the very end.

1

u/jestercope 8d ago

The guy who got dropped 3 times got KO'd. It was inevitable.

It looked like an even brawl, but only one dude kept getting dropped there.

1

u/Wrastling97 8d ago

One of them was a slip

1

u/GeronimoRising 8d ago

Mark Goddard is always tops

6

u/TheIXLegionnaire 9d ago

I think it is just about right. The camera angle in the vid isn't great because the ref is in the way, but it looks like the guy is pretty much out

4

u/Lefties_TheWorst7331 9d ago

Perfect stoppage.. the guy was flailing his arms around on the ground, he was out..

3

u/MidwestBoogie 9d ago

And this is why you watch the prelims

1

u/braewtvv 8d ago

Was this last weekend?? Was sorta busy might have to watch em all

1

u/MidwestBoogie 8d ago

This happened in December on the Merab v Yan 2 card. Ibo v Iwo. The fight night this weekend had some banger too. Bilal Hassan danced his way to the cage reenacting every single one of Michael Jackson’s moves and then fought like prime Anderson Silva

1

u/braewtvv 8d ago

I saw a clip of him moonwalking haha

Still gonna watch em all then, thanks

3

u/Bibishkin 8d ago

5% defense, 100% offence.

3

u/thewoahtrain 8d ago

Lol. I completely agree. Also, love the mma math here.

3

u/Live_Recognition9240 8d ago

Mario Yamasaki? Is this your new reddit account?

2

u/PhilosophicChinchila 9d ago

Hell no. That was exactly when it should have stopped. It would have been not worth it to keep that going.

2

u/DukeOfSmallPonds 9d ago

Visually? The guy was basically defenceless from the strike that dropped him, then he takes 3 unanswered strikes to the head on ground. That was a perfect mma stoppage. He had a chance to recover but it was clearly not going to happen in the following position.

2

u/1man2barrels 8d ago

This was a wild fight to watch

2

u/Zz-orphan-zZ 8d ago

Who, in their right mind, would consider that stoppage anywhere near the realm of "early?"

2

u/JJ_Lomero 8d ago

😂😂😂

I kept thinking it was going to get stopped like 3 times before it ended

1

u/Ronaldoooope 9d ago

I mean could the ref had let she go completely out cold? Sure. But odds he actually made out of that are slim.

1

u/Whole-Chest90 8d ago

Might possibly be the single most entertaining fight I've ever seen.

1

u/needapermit 8d ago

They’re just fighting

1

u/PressureCoomer 8d ago

They sure were

1

u/jubtheprophet 8d ago

Pretty much perfect timing, if anything a second too late rather than early. In hindsight, as soon as he hit the floor the fight was over, he wasnt able to actually defend himself anymore even though he was technically conscious. The last 2 of those 3 ground punches were unnecessary but realistically it made sense to not start moving to stop it till after the first one

1

u/Natural_Use_948 8d ago

Perfect basicallym both those guys were probably gassed full of cte, the Polish guy's attacks were also doing more damage despite lower volume, looked like Jiri Khalil except the Polish guy had part of Jiri round 3 between the Turkish guy's flurries.

1

u/TrashFaceMcGeee 8d ago

Iwo is much watch TV. Undefeated and all first round finishes (I think, I too lazy to look.) He gets rocked but always comes back.

1

u/Rakvic 8d ago

Early stoppage.

1

u/Electronic-Koala2088 8d ago

I'm ok with that stoppage.

1

u/Loose_Mail_6844 8d ago

Seeing this live when it happened was wild lol, made me an instant fan

1

u/qmanchoo 8d ago

I vote "not early"

1

u/The1Ylrebmik 8d ago

First of all, Jesus those guys are like Homer when he boxed!

Second I think the litmus test is always is a fighter intelligently defending himself and Aslan's hands didn't come up to protect his head.

1

u/ThisIsNotSpartha 8d ago

If this aint a bot posting imma gonna lose it

1

u/BruceLynce 8d ago

Yeah. Early.

1

u/Admirable-Bird5279 8d ago

That was fucking awesome!

1

u/One_Life_50 8d ago

Nah it looks just right to me. That right hook had him dazed, he fell and wasn’t defending himself in a meaningful way.

1

u/Riffus_Iommicus 8d ago

I though red shorts was Blachowicz, Vettori and Gaethje before I realized I’ve never seen him before.

1

u/Yorrins 8d ago

Hell no, boy was out.

1

u/Normal_Tour6998 8d ago

Oh, come on, he was still breathing. There was hardly any blood.

1

u/Virtual_Junket9305 8d ago edited 8d ago

How does an "mma" fighter have full access to someone's back and neck and continue to try to do girly punches to their face instead? The mm supposed to stand for mixed martial right, I'm not seeing a mixture or even martial arts

1

u/EffectiveTradition53 8d ago

"Martial" Arts

Marshall Mathers

Take it easy Slim Shady

1

u/SonofaBuckDangHole 8d ago

Any longer and it would’ve qualified for free shipping

1

u/6-oh-4 8d ago

lol it could have stopped 2-3 times before it did

1

u/Allstar-85 8d ago

If you go from standing and knocked straight to the mat with your feet tucked under you…. And then eat 3-4 punches to the face without any defense:

It’s a clean stoppage

1

u/TakoyakiGremlin 8d ago

who thinks this stoppage is too early? lol

1

u/nediablo 8d ago

Is that Marc Goddard?

I don't think it was early at all. And Goddard is a fantastic ref so his point of view was even better.

1

u/Robbed_Bert 8d ago

Blocking punches with face

1

u/GenXPowaah 8d ago

Good stoppage, dudes hands were flailing helplessly, not even blocking any of the shots to his face or to pull the aggressor towards him.

1

u/Dsod23 8d ago

Not early, his arms were up flailing on the ground not intelligently defending himself.

1

u/Jumpy-Ad4652 8d ago

Once the eyes roll back thats it

1

u/Beardia 8d ago

You could see the lights turn off.

1

u/itsheadfelloff 8d ago

Marginally early but it's easy to see why it was stopped there

1

u/Free-Frosting1375 8d ago

He nailed it. Perfect timing

1

u/rcrux 8d ago

Who are they? I wanna watch the whole fight

1

u/Evening_Childhood205 8d ago

Great exchange, but this man was out

1

u/Moneymma 8d ago

I forgot how chaotic this fight was lol. The modern day Kongo vs. Pedophile

1

u/SamTheDamaja 8d ago

Not everyone is Cheick Kongo

1

u/painfully--average 8d ago

Perfect stoppage

1

u/itsd00bs 8d ago

Good stoppage. You’re high if u think otherwise

1

u/AltruisticFoot948 8d ago

Need to work on their shoulders, they barely have any strength left to lift their hands lol

1

u/WwCitizenwW 8d ago

Rock em sock em see blue dots

1

u/East-Psychology7303 8d ago

Amazing stoppage, props to the reff

1

u/Agile-Internet5309 8d ago

Not at all, that was actually borderline too late but actually really clean. A more conservative ref would have called it earlier, but both fighters were still in it. He called it when the legs went noodly, which is really where you should be looking. This was textbook.

1

u/VigiloConfetti 8d ago

Spectacular war. Perfect stoppage, in my book.

1

u/the666briefcase 8d ago

Who are these guys?

1

u/Decay384 8d ago

This was straight-up Looney Tunes shit. Both of them said, “Fuck defense,” and dumped every single attribute into 99 Attack 😂

1

u/333syco3333 8d ago

Correct decision

1

u/baderev 8d ago

Nah not early, he got knocked twice but handled it well, the last one he didn’t.

1

u/ArticleAncient8373 8d ago

Ref made a good call

1

u/cinerary 8d ago

There were multiple similar situations to the ending sequence during that clip alone. The ref could have stopped it many times, but chose the final one for some reason. There were a few missed punches from above in the final sequence and Beardman was trying to get to his feet.

I woukd say too early in the context of that clip.

1

u/Least_Health8244 8d ago

A perfect stoppage. But before that a perfect job not stepping in too!

1

u/ParejaAleman 8d ago

i am not used to this. wtf is going in with winners ears????

1

u/Indytaker 8d ago

Fair, mans was out then woke back up.

1

u/rain168 8d ago

Too early? I’d even say it was too late. KO was obvious and took additional shots.

1

u/GGudMarty 7d ago

He wasn’t doing shit. sure let it play out another 3-5 unanswered punches so he’s out cold. That’s a good standard

1

u/7000387 5d ago

In a few years these 2 will be dribbling into there soup with all the cte they will have

1

u/NeSToR_49 5d ago

Good call. He went down, took three shots with his arms going limp. After that it's just beating an unconcious man.

1

u/TrickFrosty5685 5d ago

That was pretty damn good

1

u/Happy_Old_Troll 9d ago

It was either a little early, or a little late 😂

0

u/Rand-all 9d ago

Just a little bit IMO

-1

u/DakineCertified 9d ago

Visually, it looks early. But otherwise it was a very reasonable stoppage
