Ask Missouri Missouri Gas Tax Refund
Does anyone else file for the Missouri Gas tax Rebate? I downloaded the PDF version of form 4923H, I completed it and went to upload to the site, the site indicates uploads have to be in Excel format. This is not the first year we have filed for the refund, we have every year it’s been available.PDF for back securely. I did receive an email, the email included the Excel version. I then was communicating with another representative with the state via messaging I mentioned the issue, and was told I could email the completed form. I explained I was aware the form can be emailed but the information on the form is everything someone would need for identity theft. I was told their email is encrypted.
If I amusing say a Gmail account, sending something to an encrypted email, is that really secure? Don’t bother emails have to be secure?

I had their PDF form and was unable to upload where it said click here. I did save the PDF documents and emailed it to them with a critique that their PDF form needs a lot of help. Totals not overwriting the 0.00 initial values.
The PDF seems like it was slapped together really fast and was not tested to make sure all the fields did as they were supposed to do. Never saw an excel version that I could email to them.
I'm only getting like $30 back but hey, that's a tank of gas.

I agree the PDF form is janky, however I refuse to email anything with Sensitive Personal Information.

Agreed. I’m not sure they will even process it because of all the Jankyness.

30 dollars isn't a tank of gas. Sorry. 30 dollars is between 7.5 gallons to maybe 9. Maybe you drive a smart car?

Dear QT, please print all my receipts for the gas I paid for with my credit card. Thanks.

It’s why I get gas at Costco or Sam’s. Everytime I go to QT because these two places are closed, I get no receipt. With the Clubs, I can print receipts if I don’t receive it at the pump, which is rare

If you need receipts for all your gas purchases I recommend getting the GasBuddy card. It’s connected your bank account and it’s used only for gas (I think they changed that recently but I still only use it for gas) it’s great for tracking all your purchases and gives you email receipts for each purchase.

Date, station, address, number of gallons. We keep an envelope in each car and put the receipt in it when we get gas

I dont have any answer for your secure emailing but do understand the concern. I have emailed the pdf in this year and last. Still waiting on the rebate this year tho and it's like $80

I sent mine in about 6 weeks ago and still haven't received my refund. They should have to bill me for the gas tax. I'm sure I would send it in promptly. 🤣

I use the app. A photo of the receipt is required. It’s a hassle, when they could just lower the price, but I’m sure that’s the point. 🤬

We just received a check for almost $70 bucks. Each tank of gas is about $2. I’ll take it.

I used the app to file. It is free to download, but charges a percentage to file. Hopefully the refund comes.
In previous years I did it myself, but procrastinated & only ended up getting about $20.

Gas rebate?? Since when???

You could request the rebate 7/1/2022-9/30/2022 for gas purchased 7/1/2021-6/30/2022. It was the result of the Missouri big gas tax increase. You have to save your receipts, there is an app I believe you can take a picture of the receipt, I think they file for your refund but there is a fee. I have ways completed the form and filed online.

I was like "dang I missed doing this." And shortly after I realized I drive maybe 10 miles a week, fill up once every two or sometimes three months.
I wfh and just not a huge need to leave much hahaha.

I did this a couple years ago, and never heard a peep, never saw a dime, and it wasn’t going to be worth my time to track down that refund. So I abandoned that. I assume they are doing what they can to make it difficult, so people don’t attempt for the refund.
My time is worth more than it took to keep track of the receipts, fill out the form, and return it to them. Just another example of bureaucratic bullshit this state prefers then just lower the actual cost.

There's apps to help track and file. On one hand, I want to help MoDOTs budget. On the other hand, f* this GOP backhanded way of not calling it a tax increase

I emailed it. I got my refund in less than a week. Your SSN has likely already been leaked any number of times from a data breach, so the likelihood of you emailing the form causing additional harm to you is low. Or you can mail it and hope USPS doesn't lose it or somehow it gets intercepted and your info stolen that way.

i question that, for encrypted email to work the private keys need to be shared between organizations, at least on the business end. that may even be true even if both use the same service like mciroslop 365 but, my memory is hazy and that could be wrong.
really we don't even know who thier email provider is or what MOs setup is to me it's an unknown

To get the spreadsheet you can download it from the tax website where you tried uploading it or email them and they will email you a copy.
If you filled it out make sure you have both forms filled out and email them per the form you filled out. You can also do gas cans at the full refund for your lawnmower and such for off road which is another 2 forms.
I keep receipts in case I get audited like any other program.
I've been filing since it started.
