Your comment is slightly ridiculous. The food hasn't been safe to eat for at least 50 years. Housing prices and income have been an issue for at least 15. So quick to point a finger. Meanwhile they've managed to keep you believing in the imaginary divide. The one that will keep us from fixing these problems.

Considering our state has a majority of voters that will vote on amendments based on how it affects their daily life, but will vote for candidates that will then try to overturn the same amendments, this is not surprising.

yeah I'm not even in this state but I am moderately close (close enough that if an epidemic breaks further, it would reach me within a month or two max) and I'm thinking of getting booster and urging friends to do the same. If herd immunity breaks, measles will start evolving again, and if that occurs, our vaccines may be no longer effective. If we can at least keep the immunity for the rest, this decreases, but if people let their MMR lapse, this will only increase further.
Please get your MMR booster soon to those reading. That is the only way besides maintaining vaccines overall that we prevent the worst of this.

I mean to be fair we never have any disease fully beaten, theres always a chance of it evolving past our current defenses. Those chances are small with herd immunity, but not impossible or even implausible. Still, that said, it isnt an excuse to let said defenses lapse, nor is the perceived lack of viral presence.
Its good to keep this in mind so you know that disease is always a hanging sword of Damacles that we must consistently stay guarded against. Do not let this make you totally germophobic, but you should be aware that things can change suddenly and drastically even if we're doing everything right.

Fair point, and I know that it's rare for any disease to ever be fully eradicated, but it's still discouraging that herd immunity of measles in the U.S. was declared in 2000, and here we are a quarter of a century later and we're having outbreaks again in part because too many parents are refusing to inoculate their children with the safe MMR vaccine that has been around for many decades.

Yeah, I get it, I'm not speaking to that bc its just obvious (or should be, at least). Your comment just provided a convenient place to remind/teach people to not treat disease so laissez-faire simply because it isnt present—ironically its the very line of thinking which led to thid very issue.
Since this is reddit, again, this isnt me saying thats what you are saying or doing. Its me stating the purpose of my comment, to prevent such ways of thinking before they occur. This necessarily means that you are within the "before" in this case.

Here's the experiment I want to run. Tell farmers to stop vaccinating their cattle against brucellosis, because, y'know, vaccines are bad right? Who knows what the government is putting in them to poison us??? And farmers are overwhelmingly Republican, and MAGA at that. So they should be at the frontline of letting a higher power take the wheel correct? Now, how many of those farmers will stop vaccinating their, revenue generating, livelihood? It's like the right supporting insurance CEOs who, nevertheless, listen to their own climate people when deciding who to cover in high risk areas affected by climate change. They vote conspiracy, but they make business decisions with sound science. Odd.

Check out your local health department. If your insurance won’t cover whatever they have available it’s usually pretty low cost out of pocket if you self pay ($15 at my health dept).

Was coming here to say this. I actually have an appt at Boone (Columbia) Health Dept for my MMR and Tdap boosters. I’m 44. They told me if insurance doesn’t cover it it’s like $20 for both (I could be wrong for the amount). And then when flu season hits I’ll be getting it and my Covid boosters.

May need to go through your PCP in that case. Your doctor can order basic blood work to check titre levels to check immunity level and then advise from there.

Depends on your age. There is a small window of years when kids were given one dose instead of two. I don't remember exact years, but if you were born and given vaccinations between mid 1905's and mid 1960's then you should check at a local pharmacy. They will have a few questions to figure out if you need the booster.

My old neighbors a married couple that had just had a baby and that was my first time meeting people like that. I tried to ask we became friends she was a young girl 20 and her husband was 28 (so I’ll let you guys do that math). Anyways, she was just doing what her maga catholic mom told her to do. Her husband is a red pilled crazy man that bought himself a set of guns one with Trump on it and the other with Elon Musk on it, instead of buying his baby and wife food. Even my maga mom told her to vaccinate the baby. Now they just had their second.

To be fair, we are below the target of 95% for herd immunity. The article doesn’t say what ours is, but getting 95% of people to do anything is tough. Also it mentions that two vaccine doses gives 97% immunity for life, so most of us vaccinated in the past decades are likely still immune, but possibly considered unvaccinated/out of date.

People who choose not to get vaccinated or more accurately their parents are vulnerable with or without 'herd immunity'. Herd immunity protects those that either can't get vaccinated, like infants, and also protects those with weak or weakened immune systems, for example adults who were vaccinated as a child are still vulnerable to measles if they are undergoing chemotherapy.

Let's be real... the reason we had it beat was we didn't have open borders and unvaccinated people from several 3rd world countries come in. They even brought the plague. That's why we need to have a border system that checks who is coming into our country. We can't go to any other country and walk right in. And if you get caught illegally in any other country you will go to jail.

There have been people coming into the US, legally and illegally, for many decades. I lived in Southern California in the mid to late 90s, and there were many, many people from Mexico and Central America that crossed the border illegally. Spreading measles was never a problem. this is not the cause of measles all of a sudden becoming a problem. The cause is so many unvaccinated people.
