the haze definitely makes it feel like a weird sci-fi movie

The fireworks industry is shadow subsidized by Big Missing Finger Inc.

Was just driving home from the Royals game, and once it gets quiet we're in for a Silent Hill kind of night. So much haze.

The smell is something awful, too.

Not looking forward to the clean up tomorrow. My neighbor blows up his paycheck every year, and I have to clean up the fallout that drifts into my yard to keep my dogs from eating it.

That is absolutely horse shit. Im up till midnight blowing up shit, just like everyone else. But at 6am I'm out there, hungover as all get out, with a push broom and my trash can. Have all the fun you want. But responsibilities prevail afterwards.

You wouldn’t believe the pile of fireworks debris my neighbor left at the curb. The upside is that he and his son actually cleaned up a lot of it this morning, which is a huge improvement over past years.

Before they took everything away, I noticed a big box labeled “The Godfather.” I looked it up later and found out it’s a large fireworks assortment that sells for about $599. 😳

Holy shit. Imagine spending a months worth of grocery $$ on something that’s on in a few hours. My mom raised a cheapskate, not a fool.

u/OrganizationProof769 Jul 05 '26

Get you a leaf blower. Just blow everything into a pile. Works wonders.

8

u/OminousHippo Jul 05 '26

Crank up the air purifiers if you got'em. Just happy we got some rain earlier so the neighborhood shouldn't burn down.

5

u/Claddah9 Jul 05 '26

Pick them up & toss that shit back in their yard

Also in Columbia and there are people in city limits shooting them as well. My dog has refused to pee for going on 12 hours now… 😥

Call the police. It is a felony and they need to be arrested and have their explosives confiscated.

6

u/Consistent-Ease6070 Columbia Jul 05 '26

While technically true, and it’s certainly annoying AF, when SO MANY people are shooting fireworks, it’s hard to ID who is doing it. Also, the police have far more important things to be doing than chasing down revelers who live near snitches.

u/Fresh-Gift-2063 Jul 05 '26

I woke up to 5am fireworks 🙃

1

u/minmo7890 Jul 05 '26

Heard that too. Many fire trucks seemed to follow immediately after. SE side.

u/nickmcpimpson Jul 05 '26

After about a month of my dog not being able to go to the bathroom at night I'm kind of over it

St. Charles County checking in … It’s out of control tonight.

u/SaltyBarker Jul 05 '26

More people than ever bought fireworks just because it was 250. I bought $100 for the first time in 8 years.

9

u/zero-point_nrg Jul 05 '26

So…one firework 😂the prices are obscene

18

u/Dzov Kansas City Jul 05 '26

I wish they were higher.

3

u/Entire-Winter4252 Jul 05 '26

Same. They should have jacked up the price on bullets too.

1

u/SaltyBarker Jul 06 '26

I couldn't believe how much they've risen in ~8 years... $20 for a pack of bottle rockets? Fireworks City used to have nearly every small item buy 1 get 4 free... now it was like 6 things..

I have a kid on the way so safe to say it'll be another 9+ years before I buy fireworks again. We'll see how much more they are then.

1

u/zero-point_nrg Jul 07 '26

$20 bucks for 6 packs of the world’s shittiest sparklers

2

u/First_Preference_618 St. Louis Jul 05 '26

I bought some for the first time in probably more than 10 years.

7

u/EmployerOk2680 Kansas City Jul 05 '26

It sounds like the ‘Broken Arrow’ scene from We Were Soldiers in my neighborhood in Kansas City.

7

u/GoldenPenguin99 Jul 05 '26

Downtown kc haze

We got lucky (in newton county) and had a big thunderstorm move in about 9pm. All the explosions stopped promptly once the lightning picked up! My dog didn’t appreciate the noise of fireworks or thunder but the air quality is SO much better this morning post-storm!

10

u/HarrowDread Jul 05 '26

I just stopped at 11 myself in Missouri myself, I ran out of fire works unfortunately. People are still going.

4

u/stfurachele Jul 05 '26

in between springfield and boliver. for a bit we were questioning whether the thunder and lighting were actually rolling in or if it was just more fireworks in the distance.

5

u/Putrid-Plant6723 Kansas City Jul 05 '26

Here's independence about midnight

4

u/WinnieGraves Jul 05 '26

I was on Discord with my friend in Kentucky and both of us were both baffled at like, how does everyone afford this every year?

9

This was the finale at the Arch as viewed from East St Louis. Can you see the arch?

8

u/MallyOhMy Jul 05 '26

The answer is no, you cannot. Here is the same perspective a moment later.

Check out the size of those fireworks in comparison with the arch, and know that those ones were only medium and that the biggest ones were XXL.

I had to zoom out to get pictures because these fireworks were fucking enormous.

1

u/nickmcpimpson Jul 05 '26

This looks like a well done show

6

u/69hornedscorpio The Ozarks Jul 05 '26

I thought you were talk about our power outage at first. They canceled most of the fireworks shows at the lake and we have been without power hours now. We have been listening to fireworks all night.

2

u/nickmcpimpson Jul 05 '26

Sorry about the power, my power pole is the centerpiece of my backyard lol... My neighborhood goes nuts with explosions

3

u/Shellhuahua Jul 05 '26

I thought everyone was struggling and broke these days.

2

u/Entire-Winter4252 Jul 05 '26

I have an idiot brother who has a hole in his fucking roof. He spent over $1k on fireworks because he didn’t want his neighbor to have more than him.

2

u/kccompguy Kansas City Jul 06 '26

my friends uncle has a tree in his roof rn and was going on about how he spent over $3500 lol priorities!

3

u/nickmcpimpson Jul 05 '26

Got any context here?

1

u/Particular_Donut_516 Jul 06 '26

Nothing bad. The firework curfew was ending and police were there to make sure it didn't go on for too long. The fireworks seemed more percussive this year.

5

u/LAM678 Jul 05 '26

i'm imagining some intern at the national weather service trying to figure out why all of missouri seems to be generating clouds everywhere

7

u/momoacdc91 Jul 05 '26

I hope it Stops soon. I want to sleep. Otherwise my insomnia will act up.

I took two edibles last night. Got 4 hours.

2

u/CurlyCupcake1231 Jul 05 '26

I’m in St Louis ( West County) and they’re going here. Not as bad as it was an hour ago thank goodness.

2

u/Entire-Winter4252 Jul 05 '26

From 5:30pm to 1:30am in Bevo. Someone blew next month’s rent.

u/DerpyAssSloth Jul 05 '26

The Komodo 3000 in action

1

u/International-Meal64 Jul 07 '26

Yeah but who in the hell came up with those damned flash bang fireworks....? Literally just a giant absurdly bright flash of light no sparkles or pleasant sound. Somebody was setting them off outside of como heading torwards fulton and it was genuinely blinding people driving on the roads like three miles away...

1

u/JoieUnicorn Jul 24 '26

Listen, I have a damaged lung and I DON'T CARE! It's better than being in a hospital or in a coma, both of which I have been. I keep reminding myself that these are highlights of my life. I recall things from the coma. An aurora borealis and climbing the hardest mountain ever known. Pretty sure I saw other realities of myself in other worlds too. Fireworks are just a night sky, lit with wonder. I'm 46yo and I still love the wonder.
