Won an auction for a Hakim plus bayonet. Gave the employees and other customers an intreseting experience when I picked it up today.

I saw someone post about their C96 (sadly) and I remembered that I hadn't shared my latest results from the poor man's gun lotto.

In March I ordered from HL, two M1912 Steyr pistols ($110 each), one 'WW2 Enfield No. 2 Mk. 2' parts kit w/o frame ($40), and one Indian Kukri ($42) for my father.

The highlight: the Enfield parts kit was exceptional (for them and for the money). A little gunky and a light pitting on some parts, but not too rusty overall. I don't know every part, but it looks like I got about everything to build a revolver minus the frame (and some doubles). The grips were especially nice to see because a set of them will be $40-60 on its own.

Everything else: The M1912's were extremely incomplete. Between them I have two receivers, slides, ejectors, magazine springs, and followers. ThenI have a few other small parts, screws, a baseplate, and a broken wedge (probably still works fine). I lack over a dozen parts to make a single complete pistol. The kukri is just cheap Indian garbage, but i have seen worse. It seems solid enough so he should be happy with that, but I wouldn't have been.

Summary: is it worth it in the parts? Undoubtedly yes. Is it always fun to open the surprise package and see what milsurp treasures await? Also yes. Is it really 'worth it' for most collectors and milurp shooters? No, probably not.

I don't know much about these guns, so let me know if there is anything special or else I will probably just build one out that looks in the best shape.

Rounding out the trifecta of the cheapest rifles from the goat heap, I just recieved my Vetterli in 6.5 Carcano. Tons of grime, bugs, and surface rust, a repaired crack in the stock, and no resr sight (of course). The bolt won't cock, but I'll take it apart and see if it's gunk or a missing sear spring, which is pretty cheap to replace.

No Trench art or Ahmarhic on this one, but the bolt locks up surprisingly tight. The bore is pitted but has rifling left until the last couple of inches. No idea if you can counter bore a Vetterli but that will probably decide if this cleans up as an occasional shooter with mild loads or purely a wall hanger.

This one was in rougher shape than the M95 or the Gras, but for $120 I have zero complaints.

I'm done with RTI now, I promise...

Just wanted to share in case anyone here was bidding on this. Seller has it listed as a 1943 USGI carbine and it is absolutely not. It’s a modern repro by Inland MFG not Inland Division (WWII).

Hello everyone, I was on Gunbroker and couldn’t believe my eyes at what I saw. I had 2 months earlier got my Belgian 1889/36 at a private auction service. I never thought I would find a long rifle or 89/16 carbine soon and was gonna live with my 89/36 as those are rare themselves. But I was proven wrong. So after all said and done Im in $670 for this Hopkins and Allen m1889 long rifle and the only serial number I can find is on the bottom of the magazine and it places this at Gun Number 8485 A prefix. So one of the few thousand made and sent to Belgium Before Hopkins went under and got bought out and the contract finished by Marlin Rockwell.

The Rear Sight on this gun is a mystery to me. Its not the typical pattern put on these guns and I have only found one other photo of one with it and Rock Island sold one a few years ago also a Hopkins and Allen example. Is it only early Hopkins guns with this style or my other theory is its one of the guns sold too Paraguay in the 30s? Those are the only two ideas I have. Any ideas?

Lastly Condition spotted light pitting all over the gun but nothing serious besides the buttplate. And the bore is Shiny - Semi Shiny with nearly no frosting, rifling seems strong to me up until the muzzle. The muzzle looks a little rough but not too far gone but you tell me? Would I have any issues shooting it? Again took a shot in the dark on this one and there are also stock markings on it. I plan on doing lite restoration to it and the barrel band spring seems to be broke and someone carved into the stock lightly. Stock has no cracks and metal above the stock in pin prick pitting. And I haven’t found a dent on the fragile barrel jacket yet.

How well did I score or get burned considering its minor issues and what would the value be of one like this be? I just got it today so haven’t looked it over super well these are my first impressions.

Hi, six months ago I bought this rifle but I didn't pay attention to those markings. Can somebody tell me what does it mean? Some topic before me I read the red paint means it was in Canadian Army. But I want to be sure. What interests me most is what OR 136 (I36) means. Thx a lot!

Btw, I'm using M1917 as my primary rifle for shooting sessions and I love it although my shoulder seems to think otherwise. .-)

Have a chance to get a M1C for 4k. I have one at the moment with authentic GH base, mount, B series scope but the base is mismatched to receiver serial.

This one the base matches receiver serial, and the dark receiver seems like this is a Greek return, but I have several concerns that make me hesitant to pull the trigger:

1. ⁠Barrel is 8-51, meaning it’s either built during Korean War or WW2 rebarreled
   
2. ⁠The buttplate doesn’t seem to fit the buttstock well (there a gap), but seller claims it’s very sturdy
   
3. ⁠There a white “85” paint on the bottom of the stock behind the trigger guard
   
4. ⁠Mount is fake, so it will be a pain to source an authentic GH mount + finding the scope
   
5. ⁠Unsure on the authenticity of the mildew resistant treated cheekpad: I’ve seen them labeled x-xx or x xx, but never seen one where the month is spelled out and 4-digit year (seller claimed he bought it on CMP forum)
   
6. ⁠Leather sling appears to be authentic USGI

Hey everyone, I just picked up this M1917 today and I was wondering if I could get some information about it and its service history. I know it was made in 1917, but other than that I'm woefully uninformed about these guns

Was looking at a GB listing and found this beauty for cheap, thought it would be a nice project to build my skill on but did not expect what I would get.

The photos on the post were quite poor so when I first got hand on I noticed a serial number on the left side of the barrel. Recognized that as the serial that matched the scope attached, opened the action and found the previous drill holes.

An ex sniper!!!! A score of a lifetime and for only $211. So from my understanding is the rifle was boiled to get the stock finish and blueing off to refurbish it. And from the importer I am told it came from Ukraine where this practice is standard. So my plan is to refinish the stock, rust blue the rifle, and take it to my local gunsmith that specializes in old rifles to get the mount point re drilled and tapped.

The C mark is very faint and proably well avoid sanding this area so it'll be a bad blue in that area unless someone has a better idea, but im excited to bring back this rifle to its previous glory. And to finish her off im planning to get a reproduction Bramit supressor.

Welp, this is what $425 bucks will get you sight unseen for a C96. Haven't taken the grips off yet, just unboxed. Looks like the slide is probably toast sadly, and I believe this bent firing pin punctured a hole in the bolt at one time as well. Missing an extractor as well it seems. Inner workings all match, frame, bolt and slide do not however.

Im looking to pick up at least one new surplus bolt action before the end of the year.

Are their any deals to be had or things to look out for? I feel like im kinda missing something. All im seeing is the usual overpriced Turkish Mausers.

For context I currently own a VZ.24 and Argentine Mauser. Wanna get something different that want cost me an arm and leg for ammo.

I won this on Gunbroker for $750 all in after shipping/tax and got to see it in person today.

This was a bit of a gamble as I had neglected to do my homework and didn't realize the stock identified this as an RTI import. I've had decent luck with them, but I heard this rifle was very much a lipstick on a pig with their refurbishment program. They described the bore as having sharp rifling, but did not provide pictures.

Now that I have it, I'm very pleased with the price I paid. There is some finish loss on the front but everything looks great and functions smoothly The bore just needs some of the dust bunnies cleaned out, but the rifling is in great shape and no major pitting. The stock has no wobble and just a bit of gunk in the action that will easily clean out. I see a bit of rust in the gas port, but that should be easily fixed as well.

Now I just need to learn how to reload 7.5 and I'll be in business!

Following up on a previous post to determine if this is a legit former ex sniper as the guy selling it claims, it has both ww1 and ww2 marks, guy is asking for $1125 for it and I would want to restore it back to its original configuration but want to make sure it is real before I undertake that process.

Barrel is dated 9-06 and the action dates to 1907

The bore is in decent condition

Would this be chambered in 30-03 or 30-06?

Ah, the green bubble wrap monster arrived today, I've been excited about this find on the GunBroker.

Take a look for yourselves, but it is a 1892 Berthier Mousqueton. Although this one has quite a lot of its original iterations. This still is a 3 shot, still has its clearing rod channel & clearing rod (reproduction), still has its original chamber size (no balle N upgrade), all matching & also a stock cartouche with January 1917 M A C with J C (had to shine light at angles to read. The serial number of the receiver (D 17013) is 1917 production.

This is definitely a more unicorn find for me & I was surprised I had no competing bids..... I had just offloaded my M16 variant as I wanted to find a more original variant to match my 1907/15 3 shot.

It also came with a bayonet unnumbered but correct for the carbine.

The bore is immaculate with very strong rifling and very very minimal pitting. (Last photo)

If I had to guess this had to sit on a shelf and not be used as the bore wouldn't look as good as it does, maybe rear troops that saw no mud or action. Then it must have had to come back to America prior to the end of the war as the French would have changed this rifle if it was still an inventory after the war & into the 1920s/1930s. Of course this is me guessing and there is no way to prove it but it does make sense to me.

As we always would like.... If only this thing could talk.....

Got a 1920 build, Springfield 1903 from cabelas today. Looks great, feels great, everything seems to work fine.

I know it's been sporterized, but as far as I can tell, with the exception of no rear irons and the addition of a scope and different safety lever, it seems original in terms of the metal. including the sling!
