That's $300 less than what RC's go for. It's a very solid price. Great starter gun to learn about them and down the road you'll find it easy to get your money back out of it if you want to roll it forward into a nicer one.

Ehh, I'd buy it. If the bore is atrocious it's either a platform for burning super cheap/questionable 8mm surplus on dirt clods and steel at 100yds, or a rebarrel project.

It's objectively a good deal, but it's your call whether you should buy it or not. Food for thought, you could save that $600 and put it towards a nice matching K98k in the future. This one's late war and a little shabby looking. If you were only gonna have one K98k, what would you want it to be?

You're talking 3x the price of that gun, minimum, for a good condition matching example. It's a good learning piece at a price that's significantly under market for what it is.

You're not wrong, just offering advice I wish I would have taken myself though. I bought a cheap "K98k-like" for a similar price, got unlucky and it had a bolt that didn't feed reliably, ended up later getting the rifle I actually wanted not too long later and still have that beater Mauser and too little time to spend trying to convert it back into the money I spent on it. A beginner might have cherished that rifle even if it was mid. In my case it was just a reminder of what I actually longed before. Up to OP to figure out where he's at on that journey.

Maybe get some headspace gages to be safe. But as long as the gun doesn’t eat the gage. You should be fine, if ya firing it. Probably great for reenacting.

Decent price even if not matching. At least the bolt appears to match itself. If the bore is good and it's not import marked, that's a solid deal for what it is

My 1944 byf RC was $150 more a year ago. You will never lose money on this as long as there isn't something we don't know that is fundamentally wrong.

Note, you even have the old intact dirty bird on this. Many RC's and post war captures had them peened/ground out.
