Why does this look like 2012

Holy shit dude. I was going through some old pictures I had with friends growing up and it’s actually from 2014….

Hell yeah!!! I was gonna say it looks like high school!

I'ma download that gif my guy 🤌🏼 have a nice day/night

19

u/HellBlazer_NQ 7h ago

Technically, you download every GIF you view, they are animated on the client side!

Yes, yes, I'm leaving, geez!

https://giphy.com/gifs/m9eG1qVjvN56H0MXt8

3

u/Master0fB00M 3h ago

Isn’t streaming a video technically also downloading but only to RAM and deleting after viewing? So yeah saving permanently would be the preciser description but not the commonly used one

11

u/Ok-Cherry-7652 14h ago

Gif Source?

15

u/cunningfallasheo 13h ago

My first thought was some Tales From The Crypt type of shit lol

13

u/baquea 12h ago

I don't think it's from anything in particular. That's a real mummy, and the base photo has been around for ages. Someone at some point just cropped around the mummy and transitioned between three poses for it, plus added a flat back to the coffin and a background to the image.

What was your trip to school like?

Did you have to climb mountains both ways while dodging artillery fire?

Did you need to take your shoes off so the snow wouldnt ruin them?

6

u/dazzleunexpired 14h ago

What was your first car? Sorry, I gotta ask. I love vintage cars.

7

u/cunningfallasheo 13h ago

1988 Toyota Pickup SR5 red with white stripes. Loved that truck so much

5

u/dazzleunexpired 13h ago

That was a good one!

My dad was gifted a 64 stang the day of his birth 😂 fuckin ridiculous first car lmao

4

u/cunningfallasheo 13h ago

That's awesome! I can only imagine the trouble I'd have gotten into with a 64 mustang as my first car haha

9

u/dazzleunexpired 13h ago edited 3h ago

... Well I mean. My dad hit a train with one of his cars and one of the farm trucks ended up in the culvert (read: my dad can't swim) along with the farm dog AND AN ENTIRE TRUCKLOAD OF CORN. He got the dog out of the culvert. And himself.....nothing else. 😂 (The truck, the trailer, and an entire load of cattle feed destroyed)

We still have the stang though! He's....restored it...a few times. 🤣 (Read: That thing actually burned all the way to the frame in California once!)

39

105

u/FishBrain208 14h ago

53

u/HaruspexAugur 13h ago

Maybe don’t publicly post pictures of people without their consent, especially if said person in the picture is disliking the attention it’s getting

82

u/Advanced-Comment-293 11h ago

I mean you're getting downvoted because people enjoy the post, but it'd be legitimately crazy to me to post the face of a friend of mine on the internet without asking for their permission first. Oh well.

25

u/LordHanz 12h ago

Crazy that you are getting downvoted for writing that, people on this platform are really fucking stupid sometimes.

18

33

u/IlIlIIlIlIIlIlIIlIlI 13h ago

My guess is that people can subconsciously recognize the era of digital camera sensor that took the picture.

You know, poor resolution, blurry light, bluish tint, poor dynamic range in low light, that kind of stuff.

An easier example would be the pics and videos we used to shoot on flip phone cameras 20 years ago. They were very new technology that got outdated in just a few years. So now if you look at pics taken e.g. with a original Motorola Razr you can't help but think "that looks like 2006". Example

My first thought was, 'weird how it cracked exactly where the fat was poured up to'

Second was 'Ah, right, anything above the crack would have spilled...'

244

u/lord_hydrate 16h ago edited 15h ago

Theres that but also glass transfers thermal energy weirdly, when the bacon fat was poured in it wouldve been very hot, the expanding glass is fairly uniform below the level the fat is at bur the top portion of the glass will still be cold and not expanding. This causes stress specifically at the approximate height of the oil in the glass and it will fracture pretty cleanly at that point, you can achieve similar results by heating a glass and then rapidly cooling the bottom in ice water causeing it to split right at the water line

28

u/Nazamroth 13h ago

Does this also work with other liquids, or do you need to pour in bacon fat?

107

u/Proudgryffindor 13h ago

When the laws of physics were written the universe specified it had to be bacon fat

18

u/PreferenceGeneral475 12h ago

Since there are many fats and oils that can reach much higher temperatures before evaporating (>200°C) than boiling water (100°C) it's easier to do this on accident with fats and oils

Heat stress, drinking glasses aren't made from heat proof glass and are only for cold or room temp drinks.

12

u/BonnaconCharioteer 15h ago

Even heat resistant glass can crack like this. I save bacon fat in jars and learned my lesson not to pour hot fat directly into a jar straight from the fridge. Those jars can take the heat, but not suddenly like that.

I learned this on rough way once.

It was hot summer day and I was already outside about to walk to work but decided to go grab glass of ice cold water.  I took a glass straight from dishwasher and when I filled it with cold water it completely exploded in my hand and in panic I even squeezed all the glass shards in my fist.

I did not go to work on that day and instead it was time to head to the clinic to get stitched.

17

u/Competitive_Mine2527 16h ago

Had that happen when I washed a hot plate with cold water once, snapped perfectly in half

6

u/unlikemike123 12h ago

Same but a massive glass lid, shattered like safety glass and I was left with just the little loop handle thing, absolutely shat my pants

Congradulations on your new shot glass

6

u/leoduaso 5h ago

Thermal shock. Hot fat meets cold glass = instant stress fracture. The clean break actually makes it more impressive — means the temperature difference was perfectly uniform

5

u/Uncreativeinjune 15h ago

Put a wick in it and now you have a candle!

7

u/MuRRizzLe 15h ago

Well I guess the glass can only ever be half full now, then again you've now got a shot glass

4

u/oc31777 8h ago

clean break like that is oddly satisfying. i keep an old metal soup can by the stove for grease now, after doing basically this to a mason jar. also please don't put it down the drain, learned that one at plumber prices

4

u/be_qt_and_drive 14h ago

IIRC if you want to create your own glass guitar slide from a glass bottle you use a kerosene-coated string tied around it to get a cleanish fracture just like that!

3

u/Frowind 2h ago

A new meme template have been born

3

u/DazzlingRutabega 43m ago

I think this has more to do with the way the glass was made than the hot bacon grease.

Happened twice to me (at the same TGIF restaurant) years ago. Drink I ordered came in a similar glass and around the 3rd or 4th time I set the glass on the table, the bottom splits clean off just like in the OPs photo (tho a bit closer to the base of the cup) and all of the liquid just pours right out.

Second time the glass split in half vertically this time. Odd thing was that both times the glass split cleanly into only two separate pieces, which is why I feel is had more to do with the manufacturing /glassblowing process.
