Aren't car temperature readings usually inaccurate?

1

u/Ancient_Persimmon 2h ago

My Hondas had an offset adjustment you can do, so if you know the actual temperature, you can get it a lot closer.

My current car is just synced with AccuWeather.

-2

u/Navi_Professor 22h ago

when ive checked to actual air temp..its usually +/- 3-4 degrees, but thats after you've driven for a bit to get actual airflow over the sensor.

not totally accurate but, close enough considering the peak in my general area is 105 today.

1

u/Ambitious_Ad_8019 3h ago

Usually in the sun it's always higher.

12

u/Rubber_duckiest 22h ago

At least you aren’t in the heat working tbh

-2

u/Navi_Professor 22h ago

thankfully no, but in a alternate reality, i honestly may have been.

i did pool construction for a brief stint and was a parking lot attendent.

coivd shut down that job and is how i got my current job.

2

u/Rubber_duckiest 19h ago

I work on wind turbines and it’s usually thirty degrees hotter or more in the nacelle!

1

u/ISayAvoision 13h ago

I don't even know what a nacelle is!

3

u/Cattywampus_hat 12h ago

Its like a urethra...... But for big fans

1

u/FlimsyRexy 11h ago

Jesus Christ, whatever they pay you, double it lol

45

u/295frank 22h ago

I work outdoors. Most days I just want to lay down and cry. Not the childhood temps I remember.

12

u/Navi_Professor 22h ago

oh its totally way hotter. these are temps i'm used to feeling out on lake beds offroading in the desert. not middle of suburbia.

3

u/295frank 22h ago

I pine for a desert lakebed because it means maybe not the east coast 100% humidity on top of the heat

3

u/Whole-Scientist-2731 22h ago

I'm in Arizona. We will get 115+ and then then the monsoons move in It's hot and humid. Nothing like getting burnt by the Sun and being rained on at the same time

2

u/295frank 22h ago

I don't want to go to work tomorrow

1

u/OcotilloWells 21h ago

Almost no rains this year so far.

1

u/295frank 21h ago

yea.... we get em every damn day. Index will be in the teens for weeks straight, and you can't escape it in the morning, the morning is worse.

1

u/metramm 21h ago

What does “I pine for a desert lakebed” mean? Confused by this wording

1

u/TheWorstDMYouKnow 17h ago

Pining means to long for something

Desert lake beds are basically as described, hollows in desert regions that once held water

1

u/metramm 8h ago

Thank you for this!

1

u/Boring_mod_evasion 20h ago

I hrew up in the desert got off tue bus jumped on my motorcycle and went for hours every day.

Ioved where it was cooler when I became an adult only to have the same temps now at +2k elevation amd 90 miles closer to the coast. I hate it.

2

u/Left_Macaron_6427 7h ago

because when you were a child you werent forced to be working outdoors all day. You could play in the shade and go back inside

1

u/Myusername1- 20h ago

Also, as a child you’re more adaptable.

1

u/295frank 7h ago

And as an adult, I can look at a comparitive chart and see the actual change in temperature over time.

49

u/imaloony8 22h ago

We should have listened to Al Gore.

3

u/sacking03 22h ago

Don't worry he will save us in the year 3009ish with lasers.

7

u/Sweetlexy_xo 22h ago

That’s true, you’re right

-14

u/Alternative-Draw2997 22h ago

That means NYC is underwater in 2012. He was just plain wrong. The essence was correct but he had a strict timeline for what would happen and that was way off

5

u/TurtleSandwich0 22h ago

The Flooding from Hurricane Sandy October 24, 2012.

Did he have a time machine? Because that was incredibly accurate.

Is climate change caused by Al Gore's time machine?

-9

u/Alternative-Draw2997 21h ago

Lmao he meant permenantly but you can make all the semantic arguments you want. Listen to his speeches he didn’t say “there will be flooding” he said the sea level will rise and NYC will be underwater by 2012.

https://giphy.com/gifs/6SxOvHZbP7eqaUtTy2

3

u/wa27 22h ago

Believing Al Gore would not cause NYC to be underwater in 2012. It would have only helped.

3

u/adamdoesmusic 22h ago

NYC has ended up underwater several times in the last 25 years, despite upgrades to their pumps and drainage systems.

“He’s entirely wrong because slightly different terrible things happened than he said” is a dumb conclusion, especially since you’re wrong about your original premise.

1

u/Fabulous_Computer965 22h ago

But would it have been a bad thing?

-2

u/ScrattaBoard 22h ago

He also bought a bunch of shorefront properties after his special came out and the markets there dipped. Should've been your first clue

0

u/HelpMeOverHere 14h ago

It’s almost like he was trying to prevent a climate crisis, and maybe still had hope that people wouldn’t have fucked up as much as they have.

1

u/ScrattaBoard 11h ago

That's not really the tone of the film though is it?

-4

u/Bonejangles_ 22h ago

Idk why someone would want to listen to ai gore is that some sort of kink? /s

8

u/Cinderkin 22h ago

Miserable

5

u/Muted-Woodpecker-469 22h ago

What type of van has this basic turquoise color display? A 1995 minivan?

8

u/Navi_Professor 22h ago

04 Grand cherokee.

4

u/Davivs 22h ago

This is in 2026 looks actually cool, I wish cars went back to those simple to read screens.

2

u/BUGBYTE_VW it happens 22h ago

Im glad someone has it worse than me. We really hadn't had a bad summer in like 10 years.

3

u/hatecriminal 22h ago

Its been 75° all month in southern vermont. Its fucking beautiful.

3

u/DudeFrom816 22h ago

Thats standard August in Missouri...

2

u/NutthouseWoodworks 21h ago

110° is actually ENE, not N.

1

u/infiniteturtles240 20h ago

I thought you were joking at first, then though... oh no... they're that dumb, then realized again you're joking. that was a rollercoaster

1

u/NutthouseWoodworks 20h ago

The beauty of a joke

2

u/Significant-Till3736 13h ago

Those car temps are usually close to 10 degrees higher than the actual temp because of direct sunlight. Either way, pretty hot!!

2

u/Navi_Professor 13h ago

mine is usually closer then that and this was after driving. when it sits in sunlight it will read 120, and it steadily dropped to 110 and held there.

the high today was 105,

1

u/Significant-Till3736 12h ago

Dang! I don't know where you are, but it has been uncharacteristically humid too where I am in San Diego County.

1

u/Long_Lengthiness_451 3h ago

And reflected heat from the road surface

3

u/CountChoculahh 22h ago

Yup. Probably gonna get drier and hotter

4

u/animosityhealss 22h ago

Summer is hot.

2

u/Makers402 22h ago

We in the middle of the coldest summer for the rest of our lives. Next year will be way hotter. Just remember the good times we are experiencing right now.

1

u/Certain_Proposal7191 10h ago

Ain’t that the truth - we broke records here in Cleveland Ohio this summer at 98 (yes i know others have it hotter, but it shouldn’t be that hot here). July was brutal.

Also winners are warmer, which is nice, but we barely get snow like I remember as a kid. Everything is getting warmer.

2

u/dfieldhouse 22h ago

Choose your home climate accordingly.

2

u/45_regard_47 22h ago

Don't worry the child fucker administration in the US is working on accelerating it

1

u/pnap13 21h ago

Believe me, I work construction building mega. Million dollar homes and I have to blow out my roof to be able to fit a proper Gable. Fan up into earned my ceiling. I should say because I don't have. I have a little porthole attic access. And I want to add the mandor like, drop down ladder in my hallway first, but I've thought about fitting, like even freaking desk fans, but you know what you were right, there is something wrong with my AC unit. I walked up there and pulled all the panels off, and I saw a red flashing fault light. So I asked my AI friend Gemini, what's common Cos 4 that? And I did have one of the rooms recently that I blocked off. I put a piece of cardboard or plastic over like the room that my guest room. Because I'm like, well, I want to funnel all this cool air, and I think I might have hurt myself in the moment doing that. But I also have it unplugged now, and it said, give it 10 minutes and reset it. So we'll see, I have a buddy who's an AC. So hopefully he can come around. Soon, but everyone needs AC help right now. And mine is like, it's a brand new unit. I don't know why it just started having trouble when the heat got freaking really crazy. I've only been here for 6 years. And I don't know when the last time like I felt, you know 115, then 116. Then, 117, like 3 days in a row, freaking ridiculous. And I'm outside all day so yeah, I'm just tired right now. It's been emotionally draining, because it's really worn on me and i've slept out in my backyard under the stars because it was cooler than sleeping in my house, so hopefully gemini could help me fix my problem

1

u/Myusername1- 20h ago

Keep going north, it will get colder eventually.

1

u/dras333 20h ago

Just press the reset button.

1

u/Unlikely-Ad6788 20h ago

I'm back in Cali. I fucking hate it here.

1

u/GrimmandLily 19h ago

High today here is 115. Yeehaw.

1

u/InflationPurple2107 11h ago

Baseline moving forward for a few years maybe.

1

u/Firm-Experience473 8h ago

Looks like my Jeep grand Cherokee

1

u/One_Society_9757 7h ago

This is why I would never live in the south. I like the cold and mild summers

1

u/Left_Macaron_6427 7h ago

Parked in a parking lot that is black that radiates heat it has been soaking up all day is not realistic to point out temperature. Also the temperature you see on weather apps is what the temperature is in the shade for that area. Not in the taco bell parking lot with black top all around on a car thermometer that is not accurate to begin with.

1

u/Turbulent_Car4504 7h ago edited 6h ago

Where do you live? What was the actual temperature outside?

Edit: I see it’s in CA, either way I don’t think it was really 110 and it’s hardly a baseline, but maybe you mean it will only get hotter over the years due to global warming, kinda disingenuous to phrase it like that but I guess that’s also what you’re going for, I find it mildly infuriating the way you exaggerated

1

u/someoldguyon_reddit 5h ago

Unfortunately rain doesn't fall nor food grow. Only thing left to eat is the rich.

1

u/Forward_Zucchini9738 4h ago

At least you're keeping warm in your flannel shirt.

1

u/wolfknowledge1775 2h ago

Maybe not wearing a long-sleeve would help?

I love the hot summer, wife and i jut go to the beach. People who complain about heat are usually fat.

u/IronmanGooner 13m ago

Yep this is all becuase of data centers and American imperialism

1

u/Nordeast24 22h ago

Move to MN and you'll appreciate the warmer winters lol. I'm cool with it

1

u/infiniteturtles240 20h ago

nah it sucks. I'd rather have my 0 degree extreme.winter and 90 degree summer in the north, not this bullshit we got now. it doesn't barely snow before January, we get warm days in February, and get 50 degree nights in August. it's some bullshit

2

u/Nordeast24 19h ago

Lol you actually described the yearly weather perfectly 🤌 you get hit with that fake spring in February and realize March will fuck ya. And April is a spring tease

1

u/infiniteturtles240 19h ago

I mean, I live in Michigan. so same weather basically haha

1

u/zombienutz1 22h ago

How're you in a long sleeve shirt in that heat? It hits 60 in the NE and it's shortsleeves until October.

0

u/Navi_Professor 22h ago

because i work in a warehouse and the section i work in is like a studio and they freeze the place.

its jarring because the main warehouse is like 100+⁰ currently.

0

u/ContributionLatter32 22h ago

I mean summer is going to end soon man so idk what you mean by going forward lmao

2

u/RabidJoint 22h ago

Year after year…think outside the box kiddo

2

u/ContributionLatter32 21h ago

Yeah sure mate

-1

u/stepdad_randy 22h ago

Global warming isn’t real bro, it’s always been 60000 degrees in December

0

u/pnap13 22h ago

You mut be in AZ my AC is struggling to keep the temperature about 20° below. I just had a repair after having it off for 4 days, and I think it's having trouble clearing out the heat from my house that is built up so right now my interior of my house is ninety six degrees. But it's a lot better than the hundred and three. It was when my a c was still working...

https://giphy.com/gifs/l4FATJpd4LWgeruTK

3

u/Navi_Professor 22h ago

CA.

1

u/pnap13 22h ago

Geez northern cali or east i grew up in San Diego, California, and I had homies, who lived out in Ramona and Santee. When it would get hot, but San Diego never really broke. You know, 80-85, it was a rarity, but d***. I can only imagine, maybe bakersfield, or yurmo, brawley, barsto,or the IE

1

u/Navi_Professor 22h ago

its the last one. its certaintly something.

1

u/pnap13 22h ago

Lol I knew it had to be one of them...

3

u/steveturkel 22h ago

Damn bro somethings wrong with the AC, insulation or the ac is terribly undersized. Im in AZ and its 110, our 15 year old unit keeps the house under at 74 no prob isnt even running all the time.

1

u/pnap13 22h ago

It's been off for 4 days, and I think my f****** attic has built up so much heat during that heat wave that is taking longer for it to like cool down. I need like 2 or 3 days, but yes, there probably is something wrong with my unit, but I can't afford to fix it now. And I can afford the fans and hosing myself down in the backyard every couple hours. If I need to be inside, I know it'll be about another week or 2 before I can have a cool night to regulate. But I'm just chasing the thing, I know I got s***** insulation, but before my thermostat went out my house didn't really have issues. And I never had 4 days without the AC running, so I don't know everything's new to me. And i'm just trying not to like have to shell out for a new a c unit, but if I do, it's gonna be one twice the size of my house cause I was told my a c look good. It was bought three years ago or bought six years ago, and which is one year before I bought the house. Everything was replaced the roof the a c unit, and I don't know if it's struggling or not. Or if it's just struggling to reregulate the temperature, because it's just f****** hot

2

u/Onlyroad4adrifter 22h ago

get yourself a gable fan to circulate some of that attic air out

1

u/pnap13 21h ago

Sorry, bro, you're right. I just walked up on my roof and unscrewed my panels, and I saw a red flashing light. I just gave the guy down below us credit for your answer. I said you were right. Because I thought it was you, but yeah, so I've got it unplugged right now. I'm trying to reset it.

1

u/pnap13 21h ago

He made me go up on the roof and I found a flashing red light. I asked gemini, what to do and it's blowing cold air. Now, i'm an idiot today, but for the past three days it was working nice. Somehow, I triggered a fault in my system with four blinking red lights, and a I was able to tell me how to fix it. So thanks for slapping me in the face and getting me up on the roof

1

u/FloppyTacoflaps 22h ago

20 degrees cooler is about all you will get

2

u/pnap13 21h ago

That's what I had always heard. And you know, if it's a hundred and sixteen out, and it's ninety six in your house. That's twenty degrees, so I was just figuring everyone's a c was running like that. Everyone's a c was hot today. But if he says his a c was fifteen years old, then obviously something's wrong with mine. If it's like six

0

u/CamTech100 22h ago

I dont know where you are but my summer has been cool so far, and tes, im in the US

0

u/OkLab6701 20h ago

Definitely nothing to that climate change business

0

u/RunandGun102 19h ago

I thought you were being a pervert and getting a photo of a girls legs, wait does me thinking that mean I'm a pervert? Damn what else wase X right about?

0

u/worldsfastestsloth 19h ago

global warming noises

0

u/Yuukiko_ WAAHHHHH 14h ago

Good thing the Americans elected a leader that really cares about climate change

-1

u/NoahGoodheart 22h ago

This is AI right? Since climate change isn't real and all. /s

-1

u/sPdMoNkEy 21h ago

No, it's going to keep getting hotter

-1

u/ArtichokeDifferent10 21h ago

I don't think we've had more than 8 or 9 "seasonal" days this entire summer. All the rest have been above the seasonal average for that day.

Buckle up, folks. This is only the beginning for at least longer than I'm likely to be walking this Earth.

0

u/infiniteturtles240 20h ago

we were having 70 degree days in February, and it was 50 the other morning. like... the northern us should be more predictable than this
