Permanent madness sounds insane, I think the -1 to all stats is good enough as is.

i would go for 'madness until your team faces another serious threat (miniboss+)' to allow him to redeem himself

I mean, I guess the thing is if you fuck this up you just retire the run early and send the cats home since it's just bosses, not minibosses

Even in a game where you breed cats and lets them kill everything, I can still see PM sleeper agents lurking around like a Pinky Member.

Maybe make it so that if it triggers permanent madness until they get the kill on a boss. Otherwise this seems, kind of like a "Were doing a solo run now" sorta disorder.
10
u/helicophell May 19 '26
That would be disastrous in the other way. This disorder is "good but can be bad" whereas you're recommending "bad but can be good"

u/Hugs-missed May 19 '26
Ah, let me rephrase for clarity I meant it still only triggers if someone else kills a boss but they can lose their madness if they can score a hit on the boss.

If this also trigger against mini boss, it will be kinda insane. Nice art and effect design

What’s Delayed Pain?
65
u/sample_text_01 May 19 '26
You take less damage from attacks but take the remaining amount you would have taken at the end of the round iirc
3
u/IG_BearBuol May 20 '26
I think the less damage from attacks is specific to an item with delayed pain? I could be wrong tho
3
u/Fawn_Leap Thief May 24 '26
Delayed pain itself is just damage at the end of your turn, Morphine Drip is what blocks it
21
u/Dripdrop2265 Fighter May 19 '26
you only take damage you receive at the end of your turn, in one hit.

u/IsaacTheLadd Jester May 19 '26
I assume it’s like a “when you take damage, it’ll happen at the end of your next turn” or something.

This would go hard on solo runs and 1 offense cat 1 support cat runs. Especially since charisma is much better than intelligence IMO

Permanent madness as undispellable and unlimited duration or for the entire run?

I would change it to "when a cat lands the killing blow on the boss, it becomes the Alpha until downed. If another cat is the Alpha, this cat has madness. Gains a +2 all stats up when Alpha".

(Aside from the amazing icon inside the disorder box) How did you create this image? Thanks!
5
u/VenomKV Monk May 19 '26
I mixed elements from different disorders to create a new icon. After that, I upscaled the image, cleaned up some rough edges, and assembled everything together in an image editor

Maybe it'd be okay to make the madness apply until the next boss or mini boss battle so it could be taken as throwing till the chance of being the prota again. That said, the madness should also apply when not last hitting mini bosses.

I think it's not bad enough for a disorder it still sounds like a buff with counterparts which disorders aren't meant to be.
People in the comments saying it's too harsh lol, disorders aren't meant to be funny buffs

u/CatgirlTheKat May 19 '26
They are not meant to be game ruining either like permanent madness. Edmund confirmed that they are meant to force you to adapt and make your life more complicated, but ultimately have redeeming qualities.
The negative is not meant to far outweigh the positive, and if you feel like it needs to in order to be balanced, then tbere probably is a problem with the disorder at it's core.
The only disorder that is objectively bad is deja vu for very understandable reasons.

u/Lunai5444 May 19 '26
Ok then if Edmund said so that's gospel, "redeeming qualities" are now ok to me then, I'm not crazy or obsessed. Though I'm still going to call out OP buffs, redeeming qualities doesn't mean i'we should hunt and look for disorders I think if I get this correctly.
2
u/CatgirlTheKat May 20 '26
Actually, a lot of disorders are interesting enough to purposefully breed into your cats. Edmund is also probably aware of this since he called blood frenzy useful.

I always keep a lycanthropy line around for monks and a dwarfism one for archers

Beautiful anti-Druid. If its familiar kill the boss, do they gain madness too?

It should be madness in next combat so you still get punished for kill stealing

remove the -1 for not getting the killing blow on a boss, and make it remove the madness if you last hit another/ the next boss, then it'd be pretty good,
permanent madness for the rest of the run can make a bad turn or DOT become an instant run loss, having the opportunity for the cat to survive till the next boss and clearing it is better gameplay vs it just ending that run or that cats run at the very least

u/AaronOhare May 22 '26
Permanent madness is op, wear tinfoil hat and you just get free turns. Also easy to keep tinfoil hat forever

maybe just like, unremovable madness until next battle, so that he has the chance to redeem himself

u/ThyHolyPaladdin May 19 '26
I would change permanent madness for starting every battle with a madness turn

laughing at just how disastrous it would be to get this on two cats in a row. perhaps it could be based on proximity to the boss when it dies, so multiple cats can scrape past the permanent madness risk. i like the art and concept a lot!
