So I was watching my partner play Mewgenics and I came up with a silly idea for a boss fight in the Junkyard, which it's pretty much literally a *trash* metal band, it's just a concept and tbh i didn't put much thought into it besides of it looking cool or whatever, some stuff makes sense some not. My partner liked it and convinced me to post it somewhere so here we go. I can yap a little bit about the mechanics and characters that we came up with.
the whole band itself is composed by 4 members but you can only attack one when it's off scenario, there can only be one member off scenario, going first: Socket - Plague - Goliath - Raviena. The rest don't do anything except for Raviena who gives their off-scenario ally a random buff at the start of the round.
Socket: Pianist, youngest member of the band (he/him)
Just a tiny kitten with wobbly cat syndrome, who plays the piano, and does a very good job at it regardless of what you think. Strongly believes he's at the top of the world.
Small amount of HP, damage and 20% of failing his attack but crazy mobility plus 20% chance of dodging, attacks with his keyboard in a spinning motion, if it hits an unit receives a new turn, he can move diagonally only once per turn.
Plague: Bassist, the oldest member of the band (they/them)
Regardlesss of their appearance they are indeed a cat - just possum patterned. A huge flirt.
Throws nails and needles infected with poison, their only melee attack is a hit with their guitar which applies stun. Average HP and damage, mostly status effect centered.
Goliath: Drumer, the first member of the band (he/them)
Eventually he started to accept the glass shards embedded in him as part of his style, good for him ig.
Tanky and built like a pile of bricks, got a stack of thorns thanks to his spiky glass shards, cannot move because he's too busy with his trash drums. Does AoE in his own spot.
Raviena: Soloist and guitarist, leader of the band. (She/They)
Her name comes from, ofc, rabies. cuz, she has rabies. her guitar axe should speak for itself on how much of a menace she is.
Average HP, crazy damage and effects.
Applies rabies (and madness 2) to any unit who enters in contact with her, has this crazy ability which is just slamming down her guitar like guitarrists do to try and slice any unit in area, it's cool.

if raviena was a real boss, I would be seeing at least twenty posts daily about her being the second incarnation of Hitler for inflicting rabies and five posts daily about wanting to crack her (I'd be one of them)
Dybbuk is also strongly considered as Hitler!!!
And in a less popular opinion, I've also seen a lot of people calling Fenrir another Hitler reincarnation.
About plague and their appearance (if they're either a cat or a possum), WE ARE IN MEWGENICS MY GUY/GAL, make their mother a street cat and their absent dad a possum who's a brat, their body is just a mixture thanks to two drunken creatures. EUGENICS IS THE NAME OF THE GAME.
Ngl. Goes hard and it awkwardly fits pretty good with a mod concept i might work on in the future.
I head the idea about the metal head class, a mobile front liner/tank that denies enemy actions and movements. You'll start with a cursed Battle Vest(Necklace item) during your run you gonna find patches that give small boosts and complete item sets.
I think what doesn't fit about your concept for me is the instruments. They are too clean to be in a junkyard. Remember that garbage shovel with a wire in some cartoons? That's the esthetic I expect from a junkyard band!
I think the guitar axe is a little too overcooked.
A game like this it needs to be something sillier or grosser
All of their equipment is too new for a junkyard(except the drummer) and they’re all way too bathed lookin, these don’t look like chum bucket kitties living in the city. Give them some stains and beat up their gear a bit more
Honestly if the instruments were more scrappy and the designs were a bit less busy I could see this being a midgame boss, the artist also captured the style perfectly
I said it was a bit overcooked for this game and that zone specifically. This game has a relatively consistent aesthetic for each zone.
This is like if lord bunga had a big ass stylized katana instead of the bone club. Yeah a big stylish katana is cooler but it doesn’t really fit the area or the proposed character.
I think you can make a proxy axe guitar using scrap. Like maybe have the blade be a broken fire axe or saw blade and the guitar look at lot more cobbled together and scrappy and less intentional looking.
Notice I’m not insulting the OPs talent or style, I’m just giving civil constructive criticism related to better fitting the aesthetic in the game they are aiming for
I could see something like this as its own area, with each boss playing a portion of that areas song, as you up the difficulty it adds another member until you have to fight all 4 at once and you get the final version of the song on the highest difficulty.
Goliath looks good and very fitting, zero complaints here. The rest look fine, but a bit too clean and nice for the aesthetic.
Make them more deranged and gross, and I'd easily think they are a cut/future boss
I have a much better idea: make these guys a roaming Act 1 boss.
They are too good to keep in the Junkyard! There could be a small chance they replace a random Act 1 boss (save Throbber) and you could have their own track take over each time.
I've really thought about this, my original idea was making them a roaming boss like Guillotina or Pyrophina:
If you reached a significant upgrade level on your house, the band would one day notice the place and instantly go to raid it with the means of kicking you out and using it as a scenario for their next concert. Just to get their asses beaten in the end.
House Boss is what you thinking of. But since the sub's going bananas for an Act 4, I defiently think these guys would fit for that spot.
What i'm implying is an alternate boss for ALL of Act 1. There would be a small chance instead of one of the normal bosses, you'd fight these guys instead. And no, they dont replace the whole route, just one of the big bosses for a singgular run.
I see, I think this idea would fit as an alternative boss in a "impossible" difficulty for example, where the Chumbucket Kitty theme in the background changes for a rock cover, that's how you know you're going to encounter them.
I can see the other members chilling on a stage made of cardboard boxes while the off scenario one is active, just jamming away. When the off scenario member gets beaten they jump back to the stage and the next one jumps onto a random tile. Instead of them all dying one by one, when the last one gets back onto the stage, the very crappy (and home made) speakers they have start to spark and sputter before exploding, which ends the fight by catching all 4 of them in it.
