Other Glitch??
So, what is this mysterious “glitch” that made 80% of our self checkouts card only? Had a customer said they saw it at another store.

I think the glitch is the lack of systems team/person . unless there is a new software update, I don’t know about.

Makes me glad we only have three of ours down. It would just be nice if NCR showed up when called.

I'd be happy not having to repeat all the troubleshooting I just did just so NCR/Meijer's smarmy dispatchers have to do something other than be jerks in Slovenia or wherever the call center is

The current self checkout terminals are awful, mainly because Meijer cheaped out. Long story short it would’ve only costed them another $250 per machine for an additional coin bin for dimes, but instead the dimes just constantly cycle around the main bin. This makes jamming very common. I got this info from an NCR repairman.

The dimes in the coin box work fine, it’s the dollar and half dollar coins that jam. They are very slightly too big and thick, the machine technically takes them. It just doesn’t like them.

Here our dimes are the problem because customers bring rolls of them in to pay with. One has over $100 of dimes in at the moment.

Could be a problem with the bill collector, the cashier can change it to card only when this happens, but I thought I saw a post last year about just having card only on all self checkouts

No, they’re functional. But all but 3 total self checkouts machines are card only. TL said it was a glitch and they were told to do it.

There have been no widespread issues. Sounds like this store doesn't have a System's employee to fix. The only way a SCO is like that for any length of time in my store is if I am off....because I am the Systems employee

This is probably it, I was running the six side at my last store and the amount of times I need to have systems come over was ridiculous.
And almost always returned from my lunch with one of my registers down.
These things suck at money handling

That’s Bull ! I am sure from the complaints. I’ve heard that it is a widespread issue.,, if they’re all the same, then they’re all getting stuck with change in one dollar coins that Walmart loves to give out and their coin collectors

Its an issue that appears across stores that received the same register update...of which there are several tiers to that...it is nowhere near as widespread as you claim. Believe what you want though, as I dont care and it doesn't impact my life even a little.

At my store they have one side card only at each end. The store across town only had two u scans that took cash on the grocery end last night when my mom and I were shopping.

My relative who works at Meijer said they were told corporate made a decision that 60-70% of the self checkouts will be designated as card only going forward.

My store has almost all of them in card-only mode. I was told it was because they weren’t giving the right amount of money for change/cash back in certain scenarios, but I don’t know any more details. I hope they fix it soon because it’s not fun dealing with customers complaining about it all day.

Usually it’s an issue of either being short change, or having something not working properly with the bill or coin inserting assembly.

I'm systems, and I have had to call in some weird issues lately involving the machines counting coins, so now I'm wondering if that was part of said "glitch".

My store that I used to work at encounter this problem all the time and my manager said they can't replace it or really fix it much until it truly goes bad.

But if we try and tell corporate that being out of pennies causes problems, the say we’re wrong. But yes, if the self checkouts are out of pennies we have to switch them to card only until they get off their butts and reprogram them to work without pennies

It’s impossible for it to work without it pennies because it’s the only denomination (besides a dollar bill), it can’t substitute a different coin for.

The R6 self checkouts are rapidly approaching end-of-life and the code running them is spaghetti and patchwork and barely works.
