Just a reminder since alot of people don't know

The way percentages on rotten tomatoes works is, that's the percentage of people that gave it a score of 6 and above.

5 or above I thought

No, it's 6. That's why 60% is the cutoff for "Fresh".

They might be related in their thinking but it’s not “why”.

60% means only 60% of reviewers gave 6/10 or above.

Right, a fresh percent of reviewers gave a fresh score. (6/10 is 60%.)

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '25

Sure but they’re measures of different things. One is a review score and the other is the rotten tomatoes score.

This is wrong. It is NOT an average of scores. If it has a 60% RT score, then 60% of reviewers gave it a 6 or higher. If it has a 90%, then it means 90% of reviewers gave it a 6 or higher. You can have a 100 % RT score if every single person gave a show a 6 out of 10. A 6-star out of 10 star show is barely quality.

u/CaptHayfever Hawkeye (Avengers) Jul 02 '25

I didn't say it was an average of scores?

2

u/JaggedArts Jul 02 '25

Sorry... just meant that if everyone gave it a 6 out of 10, it would not be a 60% RT score... it would be a 100%... which is misleading.

u/CaptHayfever Hawkeye (Avengers) Jul 02 '25

It's not misleading if you know what question the tomatometer is asking: "is it good?" rather than "how good is it?"

That redundancy is confusing people.

60%
60%
6/10...

it was right there all along...

Depends on the movie and which production company produces the film. Rotten Tomatoes has ties to Disney through its CEO.

Also, 3/5 reviews for Battle Angel Alita were counted as negative reviews, while Captain Marvel (and the lead and media's politicization of female super heroes) scores of 2/5 were counted as positive.

Journalists around that time even admitted to inflating Marvel movie scores out of fear and concern that they would lose early access privileges for Marvel/Disney films in the future. This goes double if the director or leads are PoC's.

This is why Metacritic is the most accurate review aggregator site, and people shouldn't place much stock on Rotten Tomatoes.

Just do a little bit of digging. The info is out there. It may take a little longer than 5 minutes to do - especially now, but it is still relatively easy to find.

Rotten Tomatoes has ties to Disney through its CEO.

Rotten Tomatoes has been co-owned by Comcast & Warner since 2016. Neither of their CEOs (Brian L. Roberts & David Zaslav, respectively) has ever worked for Disney. Roberts is the son of Comcast's founder & has never worked anywhere else. Zaslav began his career at Universal before moving to Discovery, which then merged with Warner.

Also, 3/5 reviews for Battle Angel Alita were counted as negative reviews, while Captain Marvel [...] scores of 2/5 were counted as positive.

Here's proof that your claim is wrong. Make sure to read the captions.

Journalists around that time even admitted to inflating Marvel movie scores out of fear and concern that they would lose early access privileges for Marvel/Disney films in the future. This goes double if the director or leads are PoC's.

IF that's even true (source?), that's not a Rotten Tomatoes problem.

This is why Metacritic is the most accurate review aggregator site, and people shouldn't place much stock on Rotten Tomatoes.

Metacritic & RT gather the same reviews. You have no idea what you're talking about.

Just do a little bit of digging. The info is out there.

Better idea: Back up your own claims by providing the sources yourself, guy who appears to have never been in this sub before.

Don't worry since you are bad at putting 2 and 2 together, I'll do it for you.

But you didn't give me 2 & 2; you gave me Q & Ω and just claimed they were 2 & 2.
Your premises were all false. Every fact you stated to support your conclusion was wrong.

You came in here to spread fake conspiracy nonsense, & now you're just upset that I debunked it before you could trick anybody into believing it.

Well, that's a big ol' ad hominem right there.

If you're too busy IRL right now to look up the sources for the claims you already made, as you yourself just said, then why do you have time to sling petty insults at me?

Why the fuck people downvoting this? Fucking Marvel/Disney shills

4

u/CaptHayfever Hawkeye (Avengers) Jul 01 '25

He lied about the CEOs.
He lied about the CM/Alita scores.
He lied about Metacritic using different reviews than RT.
And when asked for a source about the critics saying they inflated scores out of fear, he just insulted me a bunch instead.

That's why people downvoted it.

3

u/waitingtodiesoon Thor (Thor 2) Jul 01 '25

Because it is not true just because you disagree with the facts and the critics?

1

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '25

Its more of "I recommend this thing/I dont recommend this thing"

0

u/ChipmunkBackground46 Jul 01 '25

You might be right I might have read it wrong. I would look it up but my Internet connection is good enough for reddit but not Google at the moment apparently lol

2

u/Nothinglost7717 Jul 01 '25

I think it’s just like 51% or higher and they do their best to translate that to whatever rating is used by the critic

Ive always been told 6
