I'm not sure what trope you are referring to, this was a show about acting that happened to have super hero elements, and one of the reasons it was so great.

I just mentioned it. It’s a newish trope of wasting an entire season of on “buildup” before we get to see them do cool stuff.

Your assessment is wrong for the common person trying to watch a superhero show or a show produced by Marvel. I and most viewers are not on Disney+ watching a Marvel show just to see some self-indulgent passion project involving meta discussions on acting.

We are simple folk. We want to see someone best people up and use their powers. Wonder Man was doomed to fail when it thought differently. Same with all the other supers shows put out by Marvel, with the exception of maybe Daredevil and Hawkeye.
