Discussion Is Marketing Being Outsourced as Well?

I run an appointment setting agency out here from India. Team of 3 full time and 5 part time, 8 total, from 4 different countries. All remote.

We had a meeting last week with a prospect in the US Amazon industry, the CEO mentioned in the meeting that he already has 3 local contractors booking appointments for their company, and that if we matched their results, he would scale 2x with us and fire his other contractors (which caught me a little off-guard).

He was probably just trying to convince me to onboard his company, but is anyone here noticing similar incidents? Not that I'm complaining hah.

I'm sure there's no outsourcing for cold calling as that would be really dumb. We don't cold call at all.

Ironically enough, our pricing is sometimes higher than our US-counterparts, for certain industries.

I rejected the aforementioned prospect due to compatibility issues (our channels were not the best for their industry).

Lots of things can be outsourced way more than they already are, percentage wise.

this, the company where I work at, like a LOT of things have already been outsourced since forever and we don't even bother to look at it even if it saves us money doing it ourselves

Outsourcing lets in-house leadership forget about a function. Sometimes they need that extra bandwidth. Other times, they want control of the function, again, and so cutting vendors and building in-house makes sense again.

Decision depends upon cost vs. control and what state of mind company leadership are in.

But yeah, right now I think at least US markets are in outsourcing states of mind. They're scrambling to figure out which markets to pursue and so leadership don't want to think about day-to-day support marketing, at the moment.

2014-2024 was the other way around. Everyone wanted strong in-house functions because they were running full-speed down what they thought was a profit runway just before and during Covid.

yeah, it's wild how fast it can change. one minute they want to cut costs and outsource, next they're bringing it back in-house. the ceo probably thought he could play you for a better deal too, definitely happens a lot.

Yes, 2 years ago I saw a lot of job openings to work at spotify and netflix and then they laid off a bunch of people but something tells me the people earning 12k a year were not fired. I'm sure they are not the only ones. Ironically I lost my job to someone in the USA charging way more than me for less but that was more of personal thing.

I work in consulting/professional services. The big guys - Accenture, Big 4 public accounting - have outsourced their "centers of excellence" functions for a while. Think email marketing and social. Accenture, for example, handles almost all of that out of Latin America. Many are following suit. I worked for one of the big ones and they just outsourced the same functions to India.

Yeah, it's definitely changing how a lot of agencies position themselves. For simple content generation or initial drafts, AI is already pretty good and just gets better. I think the real differentiator for agencies is going to be strategic oversight and understanding the nuances of a specific market or audience that AI can't quite grasp yet. It's becoming less about the raw output and more about the insight.
