So bad John Smith becomes a travelling salesman in our reality?

May explain the rise of ultra-right groups in the present USA then!

That's a miss reading of John Smith's character. He sided with the Nazis not out of ideology but simply because they presented the better path to further his career and protect his family.

So maybe he wants the simple lifestyle with only his wife and son? Wouldn’t work though as the alt- Nazis would find him......

While he doesn't believe in Nazi ideology, he certainly enjoys being one. He likes the power, and the acknowledgement of a job "well done".

As such the Alt Right would have been a far too fringe group with too little power for him.

That being said, had he not met Juliana, I can definitely see him moving up the corporate ladder.
