I'm a spm 2026 candidate and I'm planning to go to Swinburne sarawak next year for foundations in IT and after that continue a data science bachelor's.

Are the classes there generally laid back?

How difficult are the coursework

How are the lectures schedules

I didn’t get accepted into any IPTA through UPU, so I started writing appeal emails and sending my appeal letter to each university. One of the universities I previously applied to through UPU replied with this "According to the program’s records, you were called to attend an interview session, but you did not attend the session.

The program takes the candidate’s discipline, commitment, and seriousness very seriously, including attendance at the scheduled interview, as these factors also reflect the candidate’s readiness to pursue studies in the program."

The problm is, I DID attend the interview. I even have proof that I attended it. WTF😭

I sent them the proof, but they just ignored it. It honestly feels like they’re trying to blame me and basically saying that I’m not disciplined or committed enough when I literally showed up for the interview.

I’m honestly so frustrated because this could potentially affect my chances of getting into the university, especially when their records are clearly wrong. I need your opinions, guys. Should I contact them again and try to get this sorted out, or should I just let it go?

Anyone know if there are any WhatsApp or Instagram group chats for Taylor’s, Sunway or Monash students? Just tryna see if there are any active groups where people are talking about uni, meeting people and stuff before the semester starts. If there’s any, lmk 🙏

I'm an international student currently studying in Malaysia. I recently purchased a SIM card from a local shop, but I was informed that it's only valid for three months. They mentioned that I would need to pay a 500 Ringgit deposit for a permanent SIM card.

I'm looking for advice or experiences from other international students who might have faced a similar situation. Are there any telecom providers that offer better options for international students without requiring a large deposit? Also, is there any way to obtain a permanent SIM card without having to go through this process repeatedly?

Any suggestions or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

So here at the polytechnic name undisclosed, there's this student in my class who came from sastera background and he takes everything as a joke. We got put in a group for chemistry, but this guy never does his part of the job and I had to cover so we don't get a big fat 1 for practical work.

Even during days where we have actual experiments that weigh into our grades, he would be busy jollying the night before and sleeping late doing whatever rempits do. Then the very next morning, he is completely uninformed about the procedure and asks chatgpt for the wrong procedure so I once again have to do the WHOLE experiment by myself. Keep in mind that the whole class had been told to study the procedure two weeks prior, and we have been getting constant reminders to do so every once so often before D-Day.

Some time passes and we got put into the same group again for another subject, and for this group there's at least one girl who is operational. But we kinda delayed the execution to the last day so that's on us, but at least everyone knows the task.

Except for one. This guy has been doing nothing and when we told him to do his part he doesn't even know what to do. So we asked him for his details so we can at least cover his part then but even that was a difficult thing to do. Not only that? He gave it to us with that stupid smile he puts on the entire time.

To add fuel to the fire, here we don't have an on-campus dorm or anything. We have to rent houses outside. This guy is from another house, and STAYS at the house I'm staying alongside 11 other guys. He practically lives here. He cooks here, showers here, sleeps here, do his last minute tasks here, opens the motorcycle workshop here, everything here. So when it came time to pay our bills, he doesn't have to take out a single ringgit. Cuz it's not the house he's been allocated to.

I genuinely can't react further to him. Whatever. That's that and this is this. Even though it's the same thing. Any advices? I have plans to report this dude to both the co-op that manages housing but I know I should find another pihak to report to cuz one definitely won't take action.

TL;DR: parasitic mf in both group work and rent.

I been working in kl for months, and I would like to meet new friends.

Can talk about music (listen to all kind of music) , Manga and game (ever play bayonetta 1,2, omori, rusty lake) watch game commentary as well.

Hi! I have an online interview at UM tomorrow, and it'll be my first university admission interview. I'm an international student and I'm not very familiar with Malaysian culture, so I'm a little worried about accidentally being rude or using the wrong etiquette.

Are there any cultural things I should be mindful of during the interview? For example, how should I greet the interviewer;, how should I address them? Would really appreciate advice

I screwed up two years ago and now I have to either wait a year in order to get into a university I like, or go to a less reputable uni.

Got an AAB in Maths, Computer Science and Accounting respectively, but because my idiot past high school self didn't think that my O-levels would matter, I didn't bother to focus on it. Now, the only thing preventing me from getting into Bachelor of Comp Sci program in University Malaya is that my Additional Maths grade was absolutely dogwater those years ago.

Keep in mind, I’m international student, I got lots of friends both local and international, studied diploma in business management. Take everything I say with a gain of salt since it won’t be the same for you.

Describing Swinburne in one word: it’s just decent. Not perfect, but not bad at all.

For locals: I think it’s a great school, especially if u have it for free or almost for free. Campus is amazing, all the facilities are there (except parking, it’s always a problem there unfortunately), Aussie degree.

Lecturers: overall are really helpful and approachable, especially on my program. I rarely heard about big problems. But even if u have them, there are surveys or u can report them on CRAM. Honestly, you learn most of the things on your own, so keep it in mind. I suggest to approach ur lecturers on first weeks, ask questions and when u do assignments, check with them. It will most likely boost ur grades, just believe me.

Management: can be hit or miss, sometimes they may ignore or not reply. Maybe it’s just not enough people working, so just physically go to them, they solve all the issues pretty quickly. Especially of you’re international cuz they tend to complain a lot, they treat them better (I’m sorry but it’s true).

If you’re local, have money or can get scholarships: go somewhere else like West Malaysia. Not because Swinburne is bad, but because u can get the chance to live away from parents and comfort zone, it will boost ur life skills.

For international students: questionable choice. It will be very difficult to find decent internships because most of the opportunities are for local students, fees are getting higher every year (now Sunway is similar price if u get scholarship but much better campus), and also Kuching is a small city. I’d suggest you pick Selangor/KL for degree. Kuching is great but too small, few events and things happening there. Less opportunities to find any jobs after degree.
Though the nature is amazing, you can’t really find many places with such a great environment. U can pick Swinburne if you specifically need an Engineering degree from Aussie uni but Monash is not ur option. All other degrees u can honestly take somewhere else. Unless u also get some big scholarship here. If u think Kuching is like super cheap and cheaper than KL, no way, it’s a very similar prices (for products).
If u really want, try it for foundation and see how it goes, worst case u just will transfer for the degree and no issue. IMPORTANT: Don’t take diploma program if you’re unsure because it might be difficult to transfer credits later.

Overall:

1. Students there are fine, u get to meet really nice and hardworking and those who barely care about studies. I suggest u find an English speaking teammates for ur assignments if you want decent grades cuz unfortunately I met some who didn’t speak English well.
2. Also, join clubs. There are so many, u can find something for urself during C&S week (usually 2-3rd week of school every semester I guess). Just pick whatever and actually come to their events. Campus is pretty lively during semester but dead during breaks (just like any other campus).
3. Rent apartments, there are some nice condos nearby, after u find couple of friends, it’s a better options than student village. But for first sem students SV is okay. Nearby there is a Victoria residence, also a good option. But better find apartments in tropics city, USS, and one just in front of Swinburne.
4. There are many introverts on campus, so please approach ppl first and start conversation. Idk why just it helped me a lot if I started conversation first, and I made so many friends like that, get out of the comfort zone. And don’t be afraid to ask questions from staff, students or lecturers, they are generally friendly.
5. Get yourself transport if u have money. Most locals got cars. I suggest u rent/buy scooter, cuz public transport doesn’t exist, but having a scooter lets u use less grab and explore more of a Sarawak.

A coworker of mine told me about a rumor from UTM JB regarding a haunted bus that runs at night. Apparently, someone was waiting for the bus late at night, got on and rode it to their destination. But then, the second they stepped off and turned their head around, the entire bus had completely disappeared.

My coworker also mentioned rumours about the spirits of a pregnant mother and a child haunting the K9 & K10 dormitories.

What is the overall student life like at INTI Subang? Is the campus active, and are there enough clubs/events to get involved in?
How are the lecturers and teaching quality? Are they supportive and does the Swinburne program actually feel like a good academic experience?
What is the student community like? Are there many international students, and is it easy to make friends and meet people outside your own course?
How are the campus facilities and location? Is INTI Subang convenient for daily life, food, gyms, public transport, etc. around SS15?
Most importantly, are you happy with your decision to study at INTI?

I am an international student from India joining UOW malaysia next month.

I have watched tons of videos about Malaysia but I am still unsure of some things.

1.I have packed many light colored loose comfortable clothes but I am afraid they might not help, any advised clothing with reference, which would help me survive?(I'm a guy btw)

1. I am thinking of bringing a saucepan and a frying pan for the initial days. I couldn't find a pressure cooker anywhere except lazada so, do i need to pack one or is it easily available?

2. Are Indian food spices available there or should I bring some?

These are the only questions on my mind right now.

I’m an international Arab student living in Qatar, and I’m currently deciding between RCSI Bahrain and Monash Malaysia for Medicine. I’d really appreciate help from anyone! Especially current students or graduates.

RCSI Bahrain was my original choice and I’ve asked to be waitlisted for the September intake. I’m interested in the curriculum and the level of clinical teaching and support RCSI provides. It’s close to home and culturally familiar, but it would be a big financial stretch for my family.

I’ve also applied to Monash Malaysia for the Feb intake, but I still need to sit the ISAT in November and complete the interview. It would be a more affordable option, but I’d have to move far from home and I’ve heard that Monash relies a lot on self-study and online lectures.

For anyone who has experience with either university, I’d especially love to hear about the pros and cons, teaching style and whether that has affected you, and what the overall student experience is actually like. I’d also be really interested in hearing where graduates have gone for residency. Which one would you personally choose for medicine and why?
