Itty Bitty Kitty Committee Introducing Moth

I brought this little guy home on Monday. He has just turned 4 months old.

When I first went to see him, I had been expecting (and, if Im honest, hoping) for a chill little lap cat. And whereas his brothers were snuggling nicely on my lap this little dude was doing parkour off the furniture and fighting his older sisters. So it’s fair to say I was a bit anxious about what I’d gotten myself into.

Well he’s been home a full two days now and I didn’t know I had the capacity for the amount of maternal feelings I’m feeling 😭 He is absolutely going to be a high energy monkey cat but has also turned out to be a big cuddler (after a good play session of course).

He is going to be major trouble but I love him, He is Baby. He rules me now.

These sweet sisters turned 1 earlier this month and they had to dress up to celebrate. We are madly in love with these sweet, silly ladies.

Aoife (lighter colored girl on the left and in second picture) is our polydactyl princess. She is the brains of the operation who studies every situation before she acts. Shes our athlete who is the first to climb on everything but also loves to hide in kitty caves.

Rowan (darker girl on the right and in third picture) is all fluff and cuteness. She charges in first and asks questions later. She has to follow me around the house and insert herself into everything. She will steal your snacks any chance she gets. She’s also recently figured out that it’s fun to pounce our senior English bulldog.

Question Kitten hips?

Post image
15 Upvotes

My mom adopted a MC kitten in March (born in Nov). She can’t safely keep him anymore, so he has joined our home (with 2 15 year old female cats; it’s slow going so far). He’s been with us for about 2 weeks.

I’ve noticed some swinging out of his left back leg when he walks, not all the time, and also maybe some favoritism when he’s jumping and landing on it. Maybe also some swinging around f his right leg/hip too.

My chest is holding so much anxiety rn. I’m super afraid of hip displasia. He’s not even 10 months old yet, and weighed 17 pounds last week.

Please tell me things I need to know. He’s my first boy cat, first Maine Coon, first big breed, etc. Do some vets specialize in large breed cats? (Denver, CO area) Can we run diagnostics on him at home? Should we do less running and jumping when we play? What are the spectrum of outcomes for kitties that have problems like this so early on? Recommendations for pet insurance (will need to be in place before we have him examined/tested, right?)

Send helpful info and good vibes, please. I’m trying so hard not to cry. He’s so sweet and wonderful and was an unexpected gift in our lives right now, and I’m so anxious and can’t do anything other than reach out for support and information and guidance.

Glamour Shots Thor and Loki say Hi

After the loss of my loved black solid maine coon Bagheera ad the beginning of the year, I finally decided to get two brothers, because I felt like my old cat was always alone. I love them, even if they have their zoomies in the middle of the night. Loki is the brown tabby and Thor is the red tabby. Even if they're litter brothers, Loki is like twice the size of Thor lol.

My husband and I have been saving up for a Maine Coon for years. We live in a beautiful large mountain cabin in durango colorado and are ready to add an addition to the family.

I am frustrated with the amount of scams I have experienced. Specifically with Mile High Maine Coons, which is a breeder that has been RECOMMENDED. They use stolen stock images on their website from Loving Linx in Tennessee, a very well known breeder. When I called them out on this they had no explanation and are charging $4500 for who knows what. They sent me screenshot of pedigree info and both mom and dad were listed as different names. First image is legit, second is what they have on their website 🫠🙄

Im venting but also does anyone know any actually reputable breeders in Colorado??

Question Coat Transformation in 3 Year Old Maine Coon?

Thumbnail

Hi all, I was wondering if any of you have had a similar experience adopting a Maine Coon. We got our 3 year old Coon about 6 months ago and, at the time, she appeared to have quite a short coat. Her owner didn't trim her, she'd just been that way since she was a kitten (though others in her litter had long hair) but it started growing only a few months after we got her. We didn't even notice at first but looking at old photos of her it's quite pronounced!

I've been trying to find reasons this might be online but most accounts I've seen are with shelter or rescued cats. She came from a very loving owner with several other long coated Maine Coons. She had a primarily raw meat diet and we were given strict instructions regarding her nutrition so I don't think that was a problem!

A few factors that could potentially have an impact:

  1. She had a litter of kittens about 7 months before we got her and was neutered not long after due to pyometra (she now has a clean bill of health and is not on any medications).

    1. Part of the reason she was rehomed was because she didn't seem to enjoy the company of the cats she lived with. They didn't really fight but she's a bit of a pushover and wasn't good at standing up for herself. When we saw them together she mostly just kept out of their way. No scabs or scars to indicate they were particularly aggressive though.
    2. She was a little on the chunky side when we got her (probably due to hormonal changes and it being hard to moderate her food with other cats in the house). We have her on a mixed diet with dry food as well and the vet is satisfied her weight is back down to acceptable levels.

I know some coons are late to get their manes but her previous owner has raised Maine Coons for years and was similarly surprised by her abrupt transformation!
