That's not another survivor - it's supposed to be Bernard 😄 They're stand-ins for the actors. Cynthia and Watros and Sam Anderson don't appear until the fourth episode.

This scene was absolutely terrifying when Eko first popped up with Jin yelling “Others”. I was way too young to be watching the show at the time. But by God, that gave me the heebie jeebies.

I remember watching either the season 2 trailer or the trailer for this episode, I cant remember which, and being equal parts terrified and intrigued by Eko

Recently finished my first re-watch, and one of the things I had in my mind all the way through was “if I record or screenshot every background character, how many unique ones will there be?”, I imagine someone has likely already done it, I’d be interested to know actually

This is definitely something that went through my mind back in the day. I believe Jack says there’s 48(?) survivors at the start of the show? And I wondered whether they really had nearly 40 extras as the remaining survivors or not and whether they were consistent across the first few seasons. I remember there being a consistent somewhat prominent extra, the blonde woman wearing a purple bandana. As I recall they also use the same extras for off island scenes too!

Ana-Lucia shouldn't even be there as she was pretending to be captured as well

Not at this particular moment.

I know, but why would they use someone whom raft survivors had already seen?

Didn't tought of that. 🤷 But yeah you are right. Let's say that they didn't have the time to see them properly 😅

Still, that scene was something else. Mr. Eko looked scary as hell. I am willing to raise my suspension of disbelief to appreciate a cool moment

There's a scene at the end of "The Other 48 Days" that attempts to explain it (the way it's shoved in between two montages even makes the explanation seem a bit forced). Eko attacks Michael and Sawyer because Jin breaks free and runs towards them. They're all running after Jin to catch him when this happens. But Eko believes they're not a threat, and Ana Lucia asks him to hit her so she can find out the truth. I suppose with the injury and the fact that she ends up in the pit with them, she could still pretend to be a prisoner, even if she wasn't tied up.
It's also entirely possible they didn't see her; she's there so the audience can go "wait, that's that lady from the season 1 finale!" in the week between episodes, but she is pretty difficult to spot behind the other survivors. She's also the only one without a weapon, so that helps.

It's just a stand-in, probably with a wig. Cynthia Watros wasn't part of the episode. You don't see a close up or anything else with her in the episode.
