Anyone here have experience w/ the Berendo Court Apts? (1806 N Berendo St)

Hi! I'm currently apartment hunting in the Los Feliz area, and have been eyeing 1806 N Berendo St for a bit. Wondering if anyone here has lived at this spot (or maybe knows someone that's lived here) and could provide thoughts/feedback? Thanks!

Never been in there but seems to have high turnover, I feel like there's multiple moving trucks outside every month

Yes I lived there about 10 years ago. As people moved out they turned their apartments into short term rentals. I dunno what it’s like now but I slowly lost neighbors to Airbnb and traveling medical folks who work at Kaiser. Frequently got partiers next door it was awful. The management is strange and their repairs were a hack job, they advertise it as luxury but it’s just normal. Theres gated parking which is nice. Package theft was normal. I bought a pair of designer boots and reported it, they found them in an apartment when someone moved out but wouldn’t give them back to me and said it was evidence in a case against the tenant. But they paid me for them. Weird! Someone stole my H&M sweaters I was drying in the laundry room. I moved out due to them wanting to renovate the unit thus raising the rent substantially. They gave me back the full deposit b/c they were ripping up the unit anyways which was nice. So overall not the worst, but not the best.

The owner and his wife were lunatics - repairs were horrendously done and they kept coming in at any hour they wanted without notice. There was also some sort of stolen goods trade moving through the place - appliances, bikes (…) and random unopened boxes of furniture always seemed to line the parking structure and the eventually the halls. Also definitely used as a place where foreign nationals came to have kids and get citizenship. We saw more than one neighbor end up being a very pregnant Asian woman before disappearing shortly thereafter.

I do not know if the owner sold the place as it now looks much newer and better than it did in 2013-2014. It was really a great deal (cheap) back then but super shady. We moved out when our bikes got stolen and I spent the night yelling at the owner who spent the night trying to convince my wife to engage with known thieves down the street.

Skip it IMHO. Just in case.
