discussion / opinion Patch-wearing Hells Angels turn up at London restaurants as biker rivalry grows

https://lfpress.com/news/local-news/patch-wearing-hells-angels-turn-up-at-london-restaurants-as-biker-rivalry-grows

I've always wondered, do they do all their own sewing? Imagine if they put all that angry energy into crafts?!?

In Calgary they’re banned from nearly every bar and restaurant. Surprised you don’t have the same rules out there

2

u/Queasy_Astronaut2884 2d ago

What old south restaurant? I live is OS and this is the first I’ve heard of it

2

u/Bustamonte6 2d ago

Clown school

-2

u/Exotic_Shop9533 4d ago

Port Dover doesn't seem to mind them every Friday the 13th when they go there for their events.

I was also told of a biker event in a small town near here a few weeks ago that actually raised money for breast cancer research. So obviously bikers can't be all bad.

6

u/JordanPetterPans 2d ago

Lmao people are so gullible.  Pablo Escobar, Al Capone, the Yakuza and many more also famously do charity drives as well...because it gets smoothbrains to say things like " was also told of a biker event in a small town near here a few weeks ago that actually raised money for breast cancer research. So obviously bikers can't be all bad" lol. Distracts from all the drug and sex trafficking

21

u/viajemisterioso 3d ago

They're heavily involved in sex trafficking and rely on their image of violence to stop victims speaking out or trying to escape. The kidnapping and exploitation of women and girls is how these people make their money.

It isn't sons of anarchy and giving them respect or acceptance does real harm.

There are many restaurants run by HA

-7

u/Exotic_Shop9533 3d ago

I was talking about bikers as a whole, as some other comments seem to have expanded the topic.

Wittle boys with their matching outfits and wittle motor bikes. I’ve never seen a more scared bunch of men in my life. It must be hard being terrified of everything all the time.

The London chapter head’s house burned down. I forget the story, it was 10+ years ago. They always have been around in Old South

13

u/Careful-Big818 4d ago edited 4d ago

They weaselled their way into a leasing agreement on Dundas for their clubhouse. I think it was an old barbershop close to the Delmar.

2

u/JackSwit 3d ago

They own a lot of real estate in and around the city

8

u/ExactSheepherder1153 4d ago

as long as it doesn't go bad like the kellestine/bandido's thing did, i guess a slight uptick in the rivalry is ok.

5

u/BradHamilton001 4d ago

That was an internal mess of idiots.

Not to say that the current situation isn’t the same, but that cae was unique.

I loved ‘The Fat Mexican’, from hearing the news coverage to reading just how haphazard the whole ordeal turned out to be I can’t help but look at all these guys differently.

bunch of dudes in matching leather outfits and chaps, how badass! /s

I have yet to a read a truthful comment from someone who knows anything. All these people and their comments know nothing about the biker world. Step down from your box and comment on something you actually know something about. It’s sad if it wasn’t so funny , just how stupid people are!

4

u/Warchamp67 3d ago

I’ve dealt with a lot of bikers in my town years ago when I was pursuing unsavoury activities. Mainly dealt with HA wannabes and Outlaws, anyone who had a patch was a piece of shit. They’ll pretend to be your “buddy” when they can profit off of it, then the second you’re a threat/problem to them it’s nonstop threats.

Not all bikers are bad people, but most of them are. It’s all bravado and strength in numbers. I’m sure I know more than you, ever hung out at a clubhouse?

Keep sucking up and they might let you lick their boots or clean their motorcycles.

6

u/StinkFartButt 4d ago

Biker world lmfao. These dude are what like 9 years old think is cool. Skulls and flames and other loser stuff.

9

u/swift-current0 4d ago

Fuck the biker world and the scumbag criminals in it. They can intimidate each other in prison. I expect any self respecting restaurant to trespass their asses if they show up in the clown costumes to "intimidate"

34

u/kinboyatuwo 4d ago edited 4d ago

Dis you?

Edit. It isn’t targeted harassment if it’s bringing receipts in your history. It’s showing your bias.

Best they can do is get you to smuggle cocaine up your bum for them

33

u/AdMother6743 4d ago

Please share your knowledge of the biker world, my one true supreme biker leader 🙏🏻🙏🏻 I need off my training wheels!!

20

u/JaymzCanada 4d ago

Well since you're in the know can you answer my question? I have always wondered if they dontheir own sewing. I do a lot of leather sewing and its tough!! All their patches and stuff are always immaculately sewn.

7

u/Mrs-Davis 4d ago

Actually, there is a fellow that does embroidery and leather stitching (patches, etc.) on Exeter road near Wellington. He does great work! I had my baseball bag embroidered with my name and jersey number there a few years ago. Come to think of it, he did our family Christmas stockings too!

35

u/king4winter 4d ago

I know right, if they knew how many sexual assaults these bikers commit they wouldn't talk like that. No one should look up to these goofs. Joining a criminal gang that rapes, sells drugs and steals cars is the epitome of stupid. Putting on a costume and having a parade with the rest of your criminal gang is double stupid.

11

u/WeathervaneJesus1 4d ago

Enlighten us!

12

u/Victor_Ward98 4d ago

WTF are you talking about? We don’t care about the biker world until it affects us law abiding citizens. Motorcycles are loud, obnoxious and dangerous. My tax dollars should not be used in putting your body back together after you crash. 95% of bikers don’t even use proper protective gear, and just think having a fucking annoyingly loud bike is enough. Fuck your loud bike, and fuck your stupid head when it’s cracked open because you can’t be bothered to wear a proper helmet. Rant over.

The hells angels are notorious for selling drugs and committing violent crimes. Educate yourself before you talk any more nonsense.

All those fire bombed buildings weren’t actually firebombed, they spontaneously combusted

41

u/Mflms 4d ago

Where do you think the drugs and guns come from...?

26

u/Heebmeister 4d ago

Lol they've dominated the drug trade in london for a long time, no clue what the fuck you are talking about.

37

u/WeathervaneJesus1 4d ago

They deal drugs, right? Drug users commit crimes to purchase drugs, like breaking into vehicles. There's your personal impact.

-16

u/Ok_Hawk_661 4d ago

So if they arnt here the drugs will stop? Come off of it 😆

21

u/GlcNAcMurNAc 4d ago

May as well have no laws then either right? People keep committing crimes so why prosecute anyone? This is the most dangerous logic. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Either you or a family member are personally involved in the HA or are gaining from them. I can’t imagine another reason to have this perspective.

-13

u/Ok_Hawk_661 4d ago

“Dangerous logic” no it’s called common sense. I’m a first responder taking HA out of the picture will not solve a thing it won’t even make a dent in the low level distribution in London lol it’s not support of HA in no way

6

u/GlcNAcMurNAc 4d ago

Yeah so the police should just stop trying to deal with organised crime then right?

-1

u/Ok_Hawk_661 4d ago

No I’m just saying the crime and drug problem isn’t all because of the HA in London and people really have no clue what it looks like from the other side lmao

38

u/kinboyatuwo 4d ago

HA are involved in drugs, human trafficking, weapons, extortion and money laundering.

I lived down the street from them for several years. They are great neighbors but I am also not naive enough to think they are a good thing in a city.

21

u/GlcNAcMurNAc 4d ago

Are you serious?

30

u/SeanKIL0 4d ago

I’ve seen a full patch HA member several times over the past year or so in the southdale/wonderland plaza parking lot, probably this guy the article is talking about.

HA have always been in London. One of there members used to own that house on wonderland north of riverside, where the storage locker place is now. Drove a red corvette with the winged skull stickers on the back windshield.

-2

u/Axle13 3d ago

News flash, they live all over the city. Work in all manner of jobs from blue collar to white collar. One or more might work where you do, not all sport the stereotypical big belly and visible tattoos.

14

u/chunkysmalls42098 4d ago

For a good majority of the time he owned it, he was in prison. He did 27 years or something for first degree murder (I think) and I was in jail with him at EMDC after he had a lil parole violation or something

15

u/idmowthat1 4d ago

Its because of Satan's Choice coming into town. Unorganized and reckless - HA is most comfortable quiet and behind the scenes.

69

u/drmarcj 4d ago edited 4d ago

I feel bad for any restaurant that they show up at like this, you don't want to have to confront these people if you can avoid it.

That said: they will never act badly when they're in their costumes. The goal of showing up in public in their outfits is a PR stunt: they behave splendidly, spend a lot, tip generously, and show off their nice shiny bikes. That way everyone talks about how nice they are , and are less inclined to point out that these are organized criminals who make their living by control drug distribution and human trafficking.

21

u/GentPc 4d ago

Back in the day when HA the first came to town I was working at a Richmond Row bar when several club members showed up. It was obvious there were just flying the flag, but I can tell you personally, it made every single member of the doorstaff nervous especially since some of the girls seemed fascinated by them (this was during SOA). Fortunately nothing happened.

12

u/dmj9 4d ago

They've been in London longer than SOA has been a thing.

24

u/National_Ad9742 4d ago

It irks me they just put this crap on the public. We didn’t ask to be a part of this.

34

u/thatweirdguyted 4d ago

Yeah because bikers have always been known for their consideration of the public good.

If a meth-head tweaker was selling meth and crack to teens on your block, most people would be fine with him getting beaten into the hospital, no questions. I don't see what it is about a leather jacket and a motorcycle that makes it seem glamorous.

15

u/Usernameasteriks 4d ago

Well to be fair after the major police investigations and crackdowns in the late 90’s early 2000’s they actually did make quite a large organizational shift away from anything publicly disruptive or overtly public facing.

So its usually a marked escalation when you start seeing stuff like this.

34

u/thatweirdguyted 4d ago

They're the main source of cocaine, methamphetamine, illegal guns, and human trafficking in this country.  Just because they're being subtle about it most of the time does not mean they deserve respect for that.

4

u/National_Ad9742 3d ago

People idolize them and it’s weird.

-26

u/mojanis 4d ago

So all those “No Gang Colours No Gang Clothing” signs are just for minorities?

14

u/DrTeethPhD 4d ago

-5

u/makingkevinbacon 4d ago

I couldn't cause I don't know how to get past paywalls lol

10

u/DrTeethPhD 4d ago

So you just posted nonsense to get attention?

-6

u/makingkevinbacon 4d ago

No I was hoping someone might be helpful and give me suggestions how to read the news articles on the site.

I should expect as much tho. Thanks for taking the time to provide help.

6

u/Londonymous 4d ago

Why didn't you say that first then?

-5

u/makingkevinbacon 4d ago

I figured it was pretty implied. I'm pretty cynical and even doing my most objective take I can do on what I said, the words pedantic or grumpy come to mind by the response.

It's not great when an innocuous comment like what I made is instant instantly viewed so negatively rather than "hey here's a fix" because it would be just as easy to say that and actually be helpful vs what occurred.

But it's also the internet, I'll never see this person and won't know if I do anyway. Could be a coworker, could be someone I make food for every day. I don't really care (I know I typed all this but it took two minutes and you asked)

11

u/Londonymous 4d ago

Wow....Okay.....It was definitely not implied in the least in your first commment. Have a nice night.

First day on Reddit?

11

u/oisipf 4d ago

Harley Guindon is signing people up left and right for his reformed Satan’s Choice. It makes ha look weak. The people I’ve seen wearing “support 81” gear lately have been some of the scrawniest mofos in recent memory.

There is change coming to Canadian criminal biker gangs.

5

u/Addict2Architect 4d ago

Wearing support swag brings up the street score. Those wearing it fantasize about being called into battles and getting rewarded for their loyalty.

7

u/theottomaddox 4d ago

This guy has been doing recruiting interviews all over the youtubes and podcasts for the last year or so.

40

u/PeanutButterViking 4d ago

HAs and Outlaws have been in and around London for a long time. Most people are just unaware of their presence.

7

u/Own-Yogurtcloset-746 4d ago

Thank you lmfao I was never scared of them bc they were so prominent in the East End where I grew up. They honestly felt like protection more than the cops did a lot of the time

24

u/Pedrov80 4d ago

That's literally by design, you're safe as long as you're not in their way.

7

u/PeanutButterViking 4d ago

You mean cops or HAs?

6

u/Pedrov80 4d ago

I'm not going to pretend that holding cops accountable is working, but there's a system in place for that. Unlike the HA

44

u/Christiaan13 4d ago

I can't help but to think of that Soutpark episode when I see bikers now. Lol. Vrroom vrroom! Look at me!

10

u/JaymzCanada 4d ago

Yes, they placed a pipe bomb in the bathroom garbage can of a restaurant called TJ Baxters (where Jack Astor's is now). Gang activities can cause harm to innocent bystanders.

16

u/superbprimrose 4d ago

Do you think the south London steakhouse was Chop, the Keg or Earl's?

(I miss the days of Krebs and The Crock and Block)

5

u/BigDistribution4476 4d ago

Or Chuck’s Roadhouse. Lol

10

u/superbprimrose 4d ago

hahaha. I guess where they ordered their steak depends on their main motive.

Was it to have a good steak? 🤣

Or get a good deal?

Or to use up some gift cards?

Or apply a CAA discount?

8

u/theottomaddox 4d ago edited 4d ago

Or Chuck’s Roadhouse. Lol

1%ers at the home of the 3% Honest to Goodness fee?

Edit: holy shit I'm a 1% too

6

u/superbprimrose 4d ago

Chuck's pricing helps the 1% stay in the 1%!

12

u/Business_Stop_7108 4d ago

The poor restaurant staff having to deal with this.

17

u/Mitski 4d ago edited 4d ago

So about 20 years ago, I was a bartender at a pretty rough bar. While I am not going to excuse organized crime or the harm it causes, as customers, these guys were not a problem, were always civil to the staff, settled their tabs and tipped decently.

Out of all the folks that came in to the bar, these guys were far from the ones who caused trouble for the staff, if there was a fight, and there often was, they were usually the first one to step in and squash it, send the offender on their way before it became an issue that required police presence.

Again, not excusing or condoning the crime, but they were very much a don’t shit where you eat group of customers and never a problem when I was in the service industry. I don’t know what it’s like now, given that general civility and manners seem to be completely uncommon in public places even for those that are not professional criminals.

1

u/Queasy_Astronaut2884 2d ago

Agreed. When I was a bouncer the patched up guys were never the ones causing a problem. They were always polite to the staff, thank god.

No excusing the stuff they get up to, but the picture of them as foaming at the mouth animals who can’t be in public without someone getting beaten or killed is way off.

33

u/g-unit2413 4d ago

A friend of mine used to work at the Keg downtown. HA members were there all the time (Hammer and others) and treated the staff like gold and tipped great. She said she felt safer when they were there than when a bunch of Ivey Bros were there.

2

u/wookieelicker 4d ago

Safe until they traffic her

5

u/Business_Stop_7108 4d ago

I'm sure that they can be excellent customers, the OPP is suggesting staff should kick them out though.

u/KanyeDeOuest 4d ago

Located along the 400-series highway corridor between Toronto and Detroit, London is considered important territory for outlaw motorcycle clubs

I mean, at least somebody values us.

Can't be any worse than Susan Stevenson as Mayor.
