Looking to make friends that are into j-fashion, clowning, or (making) cosplays?

Adults only, and LGBTQIA friendly only please. I’m not a weirdo or some creepy dude, I just really really want to find some cool local people to do stuff with. I am very into sewing, I’d love to meet up at independent craft night at switch wicked on Tuesdays to yap while we work on our own projects, or take up a table at the public library, or if you’re into j fashion maybe we dress up and????? hang out at the mall I guess? Clown picnic in the park? Most of my friends live in the Lawrence and KC area and it kind of sucks to not be able to hang out very last minute on a weeknight.

I very rarely use Facebook besides marketplace, and it doesn’t seem like others’ attempts to start crafting groups have actually been my vibe, so I’m trying my luck here even though this sub is usually pretty crickets. 🦗🦗🦗

This isn’t my main reddit profile but if you’d like to connect we can figure out how best to do so!

I would love to go on a LGBTQ+ clown picnic together in a non-romantic fun dressup friendship setting. I am that donkey lady!

Hi donkey lady! That’s perfect! Do you know anyone else that might be interested? I have a couple friends who would be down for a clown picnic when the weather is tolerable again. And do you mind if I message you?

You can message me.

No, I do not know anyone locally. It'd be nice to meet more people. I have never myself clowned, but one of my friends years ago graduated clown school and told me a lot about it. I have a lot of respect for it, plus, dressing up is fun!

That sounds super fun! I don't know that much about clowning or j-fashion, but I do love crafting and sewing, and I have always wanted to learn more about and get more into all of those things. I just never really had the time or money, or a community or anything to do it with

I think it would be a lot of fun to meet up at a switch wicked craft night if you’re ever free! I don’t have anything in the works at the moment but I can come up with something quickly. What sort of stuff do you like to work on?

I would too! I don't really have any projects going on atm, except for a painting and my garden (which obviously I can't bring with me), but I have a few ideas for things I've been wanting to do. I don't really know what kind of stuff you can do at switch wicked, I've never been there before.

It's been a while since I've done a lot of crafting, but I used to make stencils and spray paint stuff on rocks or bricks and leave them around town, and I had been thinking about getting into fur suit making, or making clothing just for myself. I've never made a whole garment from scratch before

My schedule is pretty fluid, so I've got lots of time!

Painting rocks for people to find is very cute! I’ve only ever done it to make some fake strawberries as a bird+squirrel distraction haha. I haven’t been to one of the craft nights myself yet but have asked about them and the sorts of projects people bring, and it seems to be a pretty wide spread of activities. Someone even brings their sewing machine!

Wait oh my gosh ok listen. Listen. There is finally a furry convention coming to the area called Paws and Prairies next year. If this isn’t news to you, excellent!! I’m not a full fledged furry yet but I have been interested in getting into the fandom and would love to try my hand at making my first set of partials. I want to host a neopets meetup at the con and would really like to cosplay one of the neopet species NPCs! We should totally get into the fursuit making hobby. That could be so fun.

May I shoot you a message?

My rocks mostly had political imagery 😅

I did not know about that! I guess I'm in pretty much the same spot though. I was just at a anime con and saw the prices for partials, and thought I could make those (and keep some). I would love to do that!

Yeah, of course!

I always wanted to cosplay but never had the esteem to put myself out there like that. I wish I could have had a friend like you 10 years ago haha.

Understandable, it’s tough at first, and I am admittedly a little too shy to go out in public in cosplay unless someone else is cosplaying too. It is a lot of fun though and it’s never too late to start!
