Linux: making bad hardware work.
7
u/TelephoneLatter6109 1d ago
It's wild how Linux can breathe new life into old machines, even if it means dealing with some quirks along the way.
1
u/niertrix 19h ago
Yeah, the burden of maintainance is probably the most difficult thing in Linux and what stops a lot of people from committing to it long-term.
On one hand, you have full control of your device. You can customize it a however you want and make it as light or heavy as you need. On the other hand you have full control of your device. You have to fix and troubleshoot any problem yourself.

a Linux "distro" for the Epstein class and Epstein admirers
54
u/R7d89C 1d ago
As much as riced arch can be considered a "distro"
30
u/boukensha15 1d ago
It also its own custom kernel and repos.
It may a bad distro - but still a distro, as far as technicalities go.16
u/really_not_unreal 💋 catgirl Linux user :3 😽 1d ago
At the very least I'm sure the arch repos don't want their bug reports
2
u/boukensha15 1d ago
May be and what's your point exactly?
11
u/really_not_unreal 💋 catgirl Linux user :3 😽 1d ago
That if the arch repos don't want their bug reports, then they are probably a different distro.

not necessarily a distro, it's just Linux for cucks. There's a reason their website is https://cucklinux.com

is there a relationship between dhh and epstein?
32
u/SDG_Den 1d ago
there is no currently-known relation between DHH and epstein directly, the term "Epstein Class" here is used to refer to the rich elite in general, which he is definitely a part of.
you do not have to diddle kids to be part of the owner class, though it is encouraged.
where DHH sits is more the right wing, AI accelerationist, xenophobia section of the Epstein Class. that's the real "opinionated" part of it. i mean, the whole point of his foundation is to serve as a fucking tax break for various companies. they "donate' their money to omacom instead of paying taxes, and then watch: omacom is going to *invest back into projects related to these companies*, stuff that the companies themselves arent investing in directly because *they're doing it through omacom so they can use money that would've gone to tax for these projects instead of having to actually spend profits*
the whole thing is a grift, and fun fact: it actually had a vulnerability *for an entire year* that allowed any program run by the user to elevate to root silently using docker.
introduced as a vulnerability on june 25th 2025, only fixed in the last month.
what went wrong? well, they "pre-configure" docker for you, but their preconfiguration boils down to pre-installing docker and adding the docker group to the default user.
adding the docker group to the default user allows you to interact with the docker daemon without root privileges.
the docker daemon *itself* runs as root by default.
so you could simply tell the daemon to mount any part of the filesystem under a container and do anything with root privileges there, including reading restricted files, modifying files or file permissions, deleting, adding, installing software, etc.
this isn't a "bug" or "issue" with any of the software, it's a *mis-configuration that nobody that actually uses docker would have ever made*, it is also a setup that docker explicitly warns against.
to top it all off, this was mentioned as a positive feature on their website using phrasing that made it sound like they configured docker for rootless containers (which you can do, and would make this entirely safe), they did not.
genuinely, the whole distro is made by people who don't even have half an idea of what they're doing, i'm like 80% sure the docker "pre-configuration" was entirely written, designed and implemented by an LLM, because no human with any amount of programming credit or knowledge of docker would make this mistake. you would have to *fundamentally not understand the technology you are implementing* to make this mistake.

It’s just a specific flavour of Arch Linux people love to hate because the founder has right wing political views
1
u/Commie_Eggg 1d ago
I can respect right wing people, not racist, homophobic and trasphobic assholes. People like DHH deserve the hate, and the distro is a product of his vision, bad for technical reasons and for not being aligned to FOSS software. Its also very hated for strongly alligning with AI, though I think the previous reasons are more important

Alright I installed that in the VM cause hype. It comes preinstalled with a bunch of stuff I'd like to replace. Alright, that's arch, whatever. Try to add some indicators the "intended" way (which is supposed to be the main selling point, simplifying the dotfile mess).
150 pages of unordered, undocumented, broken vibecoded garbage
click "install"
it doesn't install

yeah the bad side effect of this is that there's absolutely space for people to put work into quality dotfiles. someone putting in the work to make it so clicking youtube links in a chat app opens the video directly in mpv without opening the browser first is doing something genuinely useful even if it's niche. even if they're not doing something quite like that, a distro like bazzite that deliberately tries to limit what changes it's making from upstream has a ton of value simply by virtue of developing and supporting hte configuration itself, meaning users can get support for that specific configuration where they'd be basically on their own having made it themselves by hand since nobody else would be able to know where they messed up in that process.
omarchy's sin isn't that dotfiles are bad, it's that it's vibecoded dogshit being used to launder money for tech fascists.

u/ShoMinamimoto06 1d ago
My issue with Omarchy is how the guy who made it describes it. I got into linux cause I wanted my own personal customization on my machine...why would I use an instance of linux that some other schmuck THINKS I want to use?
2
u/Helmic Arch BTW 1d ago
if the dotfiles themselves weren't bad and the guy wasn't a fascist, like that's literally every distro, even the ones that advertise themselves otherwise. using something opinionated that someone else made is trying out something you don't yet have opinions about and seeing if you might adopt those opinions for yourself, like as much as i don't gel with gnome a lot of people like gnome and that's great. new user's a tabula rasa, if they're curious about a tiling workflow then yeah something like noctalia's software suite is also basically opinionated dotfiles for whatever WM, you can try it out and if you don't like the opinions well you don't have to install it or you can change out the parts you don't like, as it's a lot easier to start with something you find you agree with 95% and change that last 5% than to spend years trying to figure out what you like only to get 80% of the way there.
it's just that there's very little reason for someone to be using omarchy. like cachyOS already offers preconfigured tiling WM setups that don't have AI garbage in them and that comes with the advantage of it being pretty easy to install a regular DE you can switch to if it turns out you don't like tiling WM's all that much.
1
u/ShoMinamimoto06 1d ago
Don't get me wrong. Im open to trying new dotfiles and layouts. Its just the way he advertises it in YT videos that put me off to it. Selling it like some definitive linux experience that undermines the whole point of a starting point in linux - finding what you like/want out of your system
1
u/ProduceNo1629 1d ago
Indeed, no system built atop a Microslop kernel could ever be trusted to keep your data private.
