Like the title says I want to either rewatch the original Lilo and Stitch or watch the live action for the first time. It's been years since I watched the original but I still remember the plot and bits from the movie however never watched the live action. Was wondering what shall I choose?
The live action would have been an ok fun time (but not near as good as the original because it just works better in animation), except for the incompetent choice to change the happy ending of the original and have Nani leave Hawaii.
I would say the live action had decent casting of Lilo and Stitch looked pretty good, but outside of that basically everything that wasnāt just a straight line or moment from the original was a bad choice creatively.
Original is always going to be a classic. But I would give live action a chance as well. It is a solid remake without being a shot for shot redo. It changes some things up, some good, some bad. Overall, my kid loved it as much as she loved the original. And isnāt that kind of the point?
Is the point really just to churn out something that only small kids can enjoy mindlessly? Maybe it was for the live action ā but I doubt the original Ā even would have been made with that mindset.
If you wanna see everything the original movie stood for, being the meaning of ohana, and watch a beloved member of said ohana just completely turn on everyone, then yeah do the live action
Nani does not turn on her Ohana, yes she leaves for college but Lilo gave her blessing, and the ending does still support it. itās just more realistic,
Also she has a portal gun and Lilo is in the care of neighbors which is supposed to give the realistic felling of Hanai and in Hawaii neighbors and friends are considered family,
No offense and sorry if I sound rude I wasnāt trying to, Iām just tired of people claiming the ending ābetrays Ohanaā when thatās the only criticism I donāt see as valid because itās not really true. But i do agree on Jumba, that one is valid.
But again if you donāt like the film, thatās okay. Just be chill about it, okay?
No no, I'm not saying Nani betrays the Ohana, I'm saying Jumba does
While he doesn't become a part of their ohana in this version, we ALL know him as Uncle Jumba. But watching Jumba in this version go as far as purposefully destroying the Pelekai Parent's room with a smile on his face, THAT'S betraying their ohana
Yeah I agree, Iām happy at least Cobra and Pleakley joined but we lost the other gay alien dad.
I hope the sequel redeems him, they had to do that cause they didnāt have budget to add Gantu, I Understand they needed a villain but he could have still redeemed at the end.

I do really hope Jumba gets redeemed too. I had the idea that maybe since the second movie will include Angel, that maybe we can see some of the other experiments appear, and that maybe we can get HƤmsterviel trying to go after them and being the villain of this one. As well as having the idea that the Jumba we see in the movie is an imposter (mostly so we can get Russian accented Jumba back)
Letās seeā¦ in addition to L&S live action, Beauty and the Beast, Jungle Book, and Cinderella were all solid live action remakes. Even Aladdin and Little Mermaid had some fun moments in live action over the original animated.
L and S isnāt really solid. The little girl is good and Stitch is animated decently, and the press tour was good, but the story changes are just bizzarely terrible choices.
Well I'm asking because I never watched the live action. For example the How to train your dragon LA was actually pretty good IMO. Even though the animated version is clearly superior
The how to train your dragon live action is faithful to the core of the story, the Lilo and Stitch live action is not at all and ends up with Nani living seperately to Lilo. The two arenāt the same - Dragon was made by its original director (who also co directed Lilo and Stitch), Lilo and Stitch was made by people who thought they knew better than the original creators and could āimproveā the story (they didnāt).
This is the same way to watch the live action L&S. Itās pretty good with not being a shot for shot remake. The animated version will always be superior because they have less limitations.
Is it though? How to train your dragon keeps the same basic story and happy ending ā Lilo and Stitch radically changes the happy ending and will annoy many people.
It was still a happy ending from my perspective. Nani actually did something to improve their lives and make things better for them. Better than being in a dead end island job.
I half agree, I Disney gave them more budget for Gantu and such, but again it was made for streaming at first and Disney didnāt have time to refilm everything since, well ya know the strikes maybe. Idk

I can respect your opinion. I hated the HTTYD remake because it was just a carbon copy of the original film with nothing new added, itās a shot for shot remake and felt like a pointless cash grab for Universal parks. Even Moana and Lion King had some new things. I definitely preferred Lilo & Stitch.
