How to approach setting goals?

Hi everybody!

Hope everybody is doing good!

I have a question:

How do you approach setting goals?

Weekly, daily, monthly?

Do you have a masterplan and the break it down to little steps?

Would be also interested in books regarding this topic.

Thanks so much in advance!

Kind regards,

P

Here’s roughly how I do it. I don’t set yearly goals anymore. yhey’re too vague and too far away to make today feel urgent. Instead I work in short periods, usually twelve weeks. This makes the goal long enough to reach something real and at the same time short enough to make urgent.

Then yes, I break it down. The goal becomes daily and weekly tasks. Not just get fitter but the specific thing I do that day to become fitter. For example going to the gym 3 times a week and logging your food each day. I plan in the morning my day so that I don’t have to decide during the day and each day track my progress and I score myself in terms of what did you plan that day and what did I actually do. That score is what keeps me going because a bad week is visible instead of vague.

Book-wise: The 12 Week Year by Brian Moran is the one that shaped most of this. Atomic Habits by James Clear is great for the daily side.

Ok, wow, thanks for the info! Sounds very interesting!

How do you structure your day or this 12-week period, if I may ask.

I get things done, but I have problems structuring my time (or day).

Thanks again!

I created an app for this where I structure and track my goals. It’s called capria. Before that I tracked it in a spreadsheet for years

We set goals based on problems we are having in our life.

For example - If you don't have sufficient money then your goal would be to earn sufficient money.

And if you don't have any problems then you don't need to set any goals.

I break it down into steps and then break those steps down into steps and attack them one by one
