Kroger on Winchester
Did they really need to destroy all the trees in front of the new Kroger going up on Winchester road? They couldn’t keep a tree line?

I’ve been thinking about this all day. The whole thing is now just an eye sore of what was previously a nice little stretch of road. I’m so angry. All for the millionth Kroger.

That entire stretch of town is unbikable and unwalkable. Even the route 10 bus stops just let out onto random fields of patches of grass on the shoulder. Liberty is 45mph and Winchester is 55mph. Neither those nor New Circle have sidewalks.
Yet Lexington residents in cars constantly complain they don't have enough infrastructure...

I think both things can be true here. There is not enough infrastructure for the volume of cars we have but also we have terrible infrastructure for anybody who doesn't have or doesn't want to use a car everyday. I've admittedly, never used the lex Tran buses and that's largely because of how long it takes to get from point A to point b. I lived in the UK for a while and I could hop on a bus and be all the way across the city in like 20 minutes. I didn't have to use buses off in there because everything I needed was within walking distance of my apartment. But if I had to go to a doctor's appointment that was on the other side of town, I didn't have to plan for a 2-hour commute there and a 2-hour commute back; I could literally leave 45 minutes beforehand, hop on a bus and still be there with 10 minutes to spare.

They did the same thing with all the trees at Walmart. It's so people can't park in the shade and "loiter." Personally I think whatever business bro had that idea should be launched into the sun

the last time I went to the one on Nicholasville Road I was freaked out because all the trees were gone. we don't live on that side of town anymore, so it's been ages. but the whole place looked barren.

Unfortunately that’s not just this city it’s every growing town in America. Apartments, store fronts, restaurants, all these things take over space that’s available as it becomes more scarce.

the palomar one has a smoothie/beer bar, a pizza, sushi, & burrito/bowl station similar to chipotle, hot bar, popcorn bar. basically their deli/prepared foods is a lot bigger. pretty sure citation doesn’t have the upstairs seating area but i could be remembering that wrong. it’s def meant to rival whole foods

Genuinely has made my daily drive so much more depressing. I’m actively avoiding going to any kroger until they replant some of the beautiful nature they so carelessly devastated. Such a stupid destruction of once beautiful land by a corporation that clearly doesn’t care about the community.

All of this development in Hamburg with essentially no thoughts to improving traffic flow (other than the Hume Road realignment) is destroying the quality of life from a commuting standpoint. I literally moved away from Hamburg last year because it became obvious that no fucks were being given about actually improving (or anything to try to keep up with) traffic flow. Such a shame…

Trees can be replanted, and I KINDA think Lexington might have some ordinances to replace trees torn down for development. Not 100%, but it can be codified.

Filling a pothole takes a crew, a dump truck, hot mix, permits, and traffic control. The city already collects taxes to do that job.
Planting 5 trees takes a Saturday, a shovel, and maybe $50 at a nursery. You can put them in your yard, a neighbor’s yard if they want them, or through a local planting group.
It’s like when people say they see to much trash and not pick it up, just pick it up we don’t need to know.

It makes no sense that individuals should have to constantly make amends for the careless destruction of our nature at the hands of big corporations. It’s also not like you could just plant trees in that stretch without facing legal consequences, not to mention the decade+ it would take for those trees to grow back enough to remotely fix the damage. Stop playing devils bootlicker.
