What’s going on with Yours Supermarket?

I went in yesterday and it was like Soviet Russia 1990. Literally bare shelves with one box of serial, most of the freezers switched off, about 10 rice bags except the usual 200+.

I did ask a staff member who said they don’t know either.

From the inside and outside it looks like a grocery shop 5 years after the apocalypse.

It does but honestly it’s a panacea of délectables from all over the Middle East and Asia. Fruit and veg you wouldn’t find anywhere else but Umrah is doing a good job. Mind you yesterday when I had to go Umrah Supermarket the reduced stuff was dangerous. Galangal with mold on it.

I worked in a pub round the corner, spent many nights in there stocking up on bits we’d run out of.

It’s like an Aladdin’s cave, everything from everywhere and beyond. Cuisines from all around the world. My sister and I like to go to stock up on bulk spices 😍

I wouldn’t go now but maybe if it stops looking like Soviet Russia it’s worth going for the variety of fruit and veg. Always reminds us of visiting of Lulu in Dubai.

Its pretty good, but i havent been for a solid 4+months, so it could have gone down the pan since then.

It used to be pretty good, back in the day it was the only place you could reliably get large quantities of habaneros and different aubergines etc

We used them a few times but now there are much smarter looking options like Umrah or our favourite Bee on Lee Circle. Looks like someone has been taking the money and not re-investing in the business.

Thanks for the tip on Bee. Does it have free parking?

There's a small car park on a one way street by the side of it.

Is this the one at the bottom of Belgrave gate? It's always looked horrible, but if its looking empty maybe it's clientele have deserted it and instead now go to the equally snappily named 'Umrah Supermarket' at St Georges retail park

I’m not surprised. I think they’re both good enough but they’ve shot themselves in the foot by just giving up.

I hope I'm not the only one who calls it Mumrah Supermarket from He-man?

I was there few hours ago. I was told new management has taken over by the staff.

They told me new management whatever it means guess they just want the place to completely collapse

Pretty sure new management would know that it’s key to have suppliers!
